Chris Moyles announces he's leaving

You make entire cases of resorting to personal insults... I asked a serious question and even pointed out the lack of sarcasm. Just saying. Go back to your new lows in jokes.

I have just had a slightly different thought on Moyles, I'd rather see him leave a station that is being forced to not want him anymore on top of his game in a way than have him fade away in the knowledge he'll be leaving soon but uncertain as to exactly when. That kind of uncertainty could lead to a dip in form, and I'd rather hear him go out with a bang.

Quite frankly, i could say the same about you. as to moyles' position now.... Well, in a way, he could almost have seen this coming, and done a dlt. as it is, it leaves him in a rather awkward position, and, after so long at the top, i feel damn sorry for him. class it as the day the ratings died.

I'm not being funny Viv, but you're really starting to pee a lot of people off. In the past few days, I've been told to get a life and been compared to something from the exorcist. I'm not really paying attention to this 'insults' because frankly, you don't mean a shit to me, but have you thought about the possiblity that the reason this forum is quieter is because you're putting people off by resorting to personal insults over the smallest things, and CONSTANTLY spamming us about Madonna?

I don't think so about Gemma, cos she's only just started her new slot hasn't she? Maybe Annie or Huw but they tend to cover if Zane's not in, so I don't know.

True about Gemma although you never know. With schedule changes coming thick & fast its anyones guess. Watch this space haha

Yeh. Heard this speech on r1 newsbeat. Weeks ago, when he would not give an answer about moyles' future was very telling. moyles and mills BOTH needs to get their arses elsewhere. They are talented men, and they can do better than this. the only thing i agree with about grimmy and greg is that they both came in via student radio.

Yep, At uni..

I think it's a good replacement perhaps a little too early maybe they should have let him have his 10 years.

It's bittersweet for Scott, Bitter as he didn't get the breakfast slot, I'd have put him on breakfast for 6 months minimum but sweet as he's got a 3 year contract on afternoons and Moyles in comparison has been treated badly as it looks like he'll end up with a weekend show. I fully expect Huw to replace Grimmy and Moyles to replace Huw.

I wonder when Cooper made this decision, it is bizzare to change drive and then get a new breakfast presenter six months later! I think it was rather out of the blue as I think he'd have kept afternoons open for Moyles and happily shunted Mills. But Mills is secure at one now (phew).

Grimmy needs to grow a thick skin because listeners will drop and he'll be criticised but I think he is a good choice. Finally Greg's multiple interviews saying how desperate he was for breakfast just make me laugh atm. He might still end up there if Grimmy is the fall guy, who ever replaced Moyles would struggle which is why I'd have let Mills ride the storm.

i really wouldn't want to be grimmy. i won't be listening not because i dislike the guy, i don't. but he's going to have a hell of a battle to pull people round. colin and edith tried but failed to take over from mark and lard, and in the end the whole afternoon structure was altered. this is kind of a similar situation but on a bigger scale.

don't think it would of hurt or caused the end of the world to let moyles get to 10 years on breakfast though.

on the grid.

one good thing.... This should see the demise of cm.net. every cloud....

not really. they have an archive of moyles gold on there, the last thing i'd want to see is that disappear offline. i think moyles will be doing more tv work, he's well and truly got his foot in the door with that. so i guess the site will start to focus on that.

on the grid.

I love CM.Net! The site is more about Chris himself than the show so I doubt that'll go away. There are a few regular posters that'll keep it going.

i think radio 1 should give him a good proper send off. love or hate him he's been one of the best servants the station will ever have, i would love to hear some archive footage from the old afternoon shows and early breakfast etc. but im not holding my breath, this is a station who seem to be ashamed of their history afterall.

Over on Chrismoyles.net there is a ton of old archived shows going back to when he was on Radio Luxembourg, afternoons, early breakfast shows, everything near enough. http://chrismoyles.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=22764#p374470

    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
    • Some similar names to Big Weekend.  Sabrina Carpenter, David Guetta, Perrie, Bradley Simpson, Jax Jones, Caity Baser, Benson Boone, Rudimental. David Guetta is a good name.
    • Still Scott for me. I'm not too much into the 70s and 80s radio 2 play but do love the injection of 90s and 00s. Then Radio 2 push for all this country stuff and it not a UK thing, and I frankly don't like it. Scott's show as in features, hit and miss. I like the music police bit, but it feels like someone needs to join him. It's a shame Chappers is so busy with sports, as it feels like it could do with someone like him jumping on to help. Or a new partner. Radio 1, take or leave. Matt and Mollie are OK from what I've heard and share a good connection, but it's the playlist that throws me off. They could bring back Chris Moyles to do that show, but as soon as something like Headie One comes on with that casino keyboard produced crap. It would still be switched off from me.
    • Reading through this thread, I don't feel quite so alone now, in thinking that Scott Mills on R2 is not a good 'fit' (even less so than on R5).  I can't quite explain why this is so - I just know it to be so.
    • Arielle has been on holiday for the last 2 weeks getting married / honeymoon.  It'll be live from this week onwards.
    • CassKidd is in for Sian on Sunday 5th May.
    • The brought to tiers feature was also very good from them. I did wonder which DJ's were going to get picked out of the hat, that could have gone one way or the other and the caller said they were very opinionated lol. Correct decision putting katie in god tier!
    • The extended Dua Lipa track from M&M was very funny. I'm hoping Matt and Mollie and Scott have a good relationship a bit like Greg and Zoe collaborate on-air sometimes.
