X Factor 2011

I was surprised to find no thread about this year's X Factor, so I thought I'd start one myself.

Most of my favourites have already been knocked out:

• John, the gay one with the fringe who liked chocolate digestives with butter.

• The gay teacher guy who was knocked out at boot camp

• Johnny. Need I say more?

• Stefan Romer, the gay, blond one out of The Risk

• Craig Colton, the chubby gay one

• Joe, the surprisingly not gay one who sounded like Paolo Nutini

My favourite is of course Marcus, the one with the v. v. v. fit boyfriend, who was a member of Eton Road which came 5th in The X Factor in the third series. Marcus became lead singer of Eton Road after the gay, emo lead left the band. Yeah.

I don't like Amelia Lily because she has an unfair advantage (has been doing gigs down the country, gaining experience and promoting herself while the others have been in The X Factor house). And Little Mix I don't like because, well… they're girls. And unfortunately I don't swing that way (unless Lady Gaga's involved).

Yeah, so, who's your favourite?? And who do you think'll win?

I kinda think Little Mix will win and I think I'll be OK with that. Tulisa deserves it and I reckon Marcus will do better in the long term if he comes second. :)

Amelia is actually my very favourite. In fact, the only one i would say can do anything. marcus is being a diva arse, and even mills said so on the radio this evening. showing up at the station with "im not talking" signs .... get over yourself.

When was this please? And what voice? BGT all the way.

shame on you for starting a thread about the weekly karaeoke competition :P

on a side note, i have a little suspicion you have a bit of an attraction to gay men?

What gave you that idea? Just coz John Barrowman, Scott Mills, Will Young and some actors who you wouldn't know but played gay characters in this teen soap are on my fit wall? My massive Will Young poster at the end of my bed proves NOTHING.

It was during vernon's show monday. Marcus was a guest. he showed up with a big sign twenty feet high with "voice rest" on it, which meant he wasnt gonna speak. the voice will be a new singing comp in the spring with reggie yates. seems the whole of xfactor is a fix, as amelia lily has been announced on hmv site as the winner. i am in bed in shock.

True. Looks v bad though. people r now saying on twitter that everyone will go nuts on the phone lines saturday anyway, still making xfactor loads of dough.

People doing that why? Do they think they're going to somehow teach XCraptor a lesson by handing them loads of money like that? A boycott would be far more effective.

Could be. OR, it could be someone against Amelia, because all the soft touches out there are now gonna start voting for other people on Saturday night, so we will never really know who won fairly and squarely.

It has now made newsbeat, and apparently HMV have taken the entire song off of their site.

Yes, while making the excuse about a technical issue... VERY convenient. Maybe they're trying out the Clarkson effect after people talked about him for Days after what he did last week... getting attention etc.

Well, he was a twat about it.

only to those failing to understand irony. I won't be surprised you and Viv are included in that...

Mate, I totally understand irony - I am the master of it. But, that implies cruelty anyway.

Do you know anyone taking part in the strike?

Clarkson says no, of course not. He isn't friends with people in the public sector; he surrounds himself with rich, famous people. He doesn't have the moral capacity to empathise with people less well off than himself.

Curious a girl band has never won historically, and now they have. I missed Xfactor last night, but woke up to bunch of peeps on Twitter kindly informing me who the winners are.

I find this band a big pile o poo personally.... that's just me though.

In fact, this year's Xfactor has just been the all-time worst. I am sure Amelia was given bad songs to sing, and performing with Kelly just finished her. If all that drama had not happened during the week regarding "fix allegations", would she have been given a better song?

If she had won, people would have said "fix"... so, she didn't but people are STILL saying "fix".

Me thinks the Xfactor has just had its time now.

BTW... breaking news: Frankie Coke-up-the-nozza is rumoured to be heading towards Celeb BB ..... starting in January. Have things got so desperate, so fast.... Linzi Lohan is also rumoured to be going in, so he should be in good company when he gets to the new BB house !! :hahaha:

    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
    • Some similar names to Big Weekend.  Sabrina Carpenter, David Guetta, Perrie, Bradley Simpson, Jax Jones, Caity Baser, Benson Boone, Rudimental. David Guetta is a good name.
    • Still Scott for me. I'm not too much into the 70s and 80s radio 2 play but do love the injection of 90s and 00s. Then Radio 2 push for all this country stuff and it not a UK thing, and I frankly don't like it. Scott's show as in features, hit and miss. I like the music police bit, but it feels like someone needs to join him. It's a shame Chappers is so busy with sports, as it feels like it could do with someone like him jumping on to help. Or a new partner. Radio 1, take or leave. Matt and Mollie are OK from what I've heard and share a good connection, but it's the playlist that throws me off. They could bring back Chris Moyles to do that show, but as soon as something like Headie One comes on with that casino keyboard produced crap. It would still be switched off from me.
    • Reading through this thread, I don't feel quite so alone now, in thinking that Scott Mills on R2 is not a good 'fit' (even less so than on R5).  I can't quite explain why this is so - I just know it to be so.
    • Arielle has been on holiday for the last 2 weeks getting married / honeymoon.  It'll be live from this week onwards.
    • CassKidd is in for Sian on Sunday 5th May.
    • The brought to tiers feature was also very good from them. I did wonder which DJ's were going to get picked out of the hat, that could have gone one way or the other and the caller said they were very opinionated lol. Correct decision putting katie in god tier!
    • The extended Dua Lipa track from M&M was very funny. I'm hoping Matt and Mollie and Scott have a good relationship a bit like Greg and Zoe collaborate on-air sometimes.
