Last Friday BBC Radio 1's longest-serving breakfast DJ Chris Moyles and sidekick "Comedy" Dave Vitty set a brand new Guinness World Record for broadcasting the longest music show by a radio team and, in doing so, raised a whopping £2.6 million for Red Nose Day. The whole event, which was broadcast live in-vision on the BBC Red Button, attracted an audience of 2.84 million, making it the most popular live radio red button feature to date.

Over the 52 hours, the broadcast achieved an average of 144 minutes viewed. In 2010, only three events had a larger average and all were sporting events over several weeks. 144 minutes out of 52 hours is very strong considering the genre – Glastonbury had an average of 36 mins, though wasn't broadcast for as many hours.

Mark Friend, Controller of BBC Multi-Platform and Interactive, says: "This was a great example of radio on the TV which worked brilliantly and which the audience loved. It added an extra dimension to an amazing piece of broadcasting."

Phew. Finshed today.

Nice to see all those discarded unused video cassettes I had could be dragged back into service to record all this on long play since that weds morning.

Enjoyed that in a missing Big Brother way.

Thorough congrats to the pair of them. What an achievement.

I was also a bit sleep deprived during the show, as when I tried to get to sleep I felt as if I was missing out on something! I recorded most of it on to DVD anway (apart from when I was out and couldn't change over the disc). I was going to list my fave moments, but there are way too many!!!!

Fair enough, although Dave's tweet did definitly say it had been broken.

Apparently someone's broken our Guinness world record for the longest show, by staying on the air for 53 hours.
