NME article - the state of music on Radio 1

I thought it was an interesting thing just to share with the other UMers. It's certainly something I would perhaps like some change or improvement, but that's just my opinion. I think after Zane was on in the mornings last week it opened up the whole 7pm onwards/new music/speciality part of Radio 1 to a lot of new listeners that are used to the daytime when they are in the car or at work or something.

It also features an interview with someone from Radio 1; not sure who it is, but they help to clear some things up. What do you think? Does anyone else listen to NME Radio sometimes? I'm a big fan of that kind of music so I listen occasionally.

Quite disappointed by the article and the questions. It's unfairly critical of Radio 1 and Chris Moyles.

The specialist takeovers on both Radio 1 and 1Xtra were a refreshing change from what is normally expected from the stations during the day. It is no coincidence in my opinion that the best presentersand the most widely respected DJs on both stations are the ones who have a genuine interest and understanding of music, whatever that genre of music is - eg. Nihal, Trevor Nelson, Chris Moyles, Zane Lowe, Ronnie Herel, Huw Stephens, Benjii B, Jo Whiley, Gilles Peterson, Nick Grimshaw, Mistajam, Annie Mac etc etc.

Radio 1 should really find a way of incorporating the majority of those into the daytime schedules and give them a certain amount of control over the tracklisting (maybe 3/10 tracks to be non-playlisted). The likes of Annie, Huw and the rest have shown time and time again that they are more than deserving of having a daytime show.

By the way, a more direct link to the article - http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=10&p=9622&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1#more9622

I did think that. They did hate quite a bit on Chris and the station generally. I just thought it was relevant to the forum.

Yeah, and from reading the article that's the general 'gist' that I got from it. It would be a great thing to see personally.

It's an interesting read but it's from a biased point of view, it's NME and they love Indie. Obviously they'll want to have more of it.

I think what would be better is if Radio 1 try to turf out the rubbish just because it is from an established artists (I'm Looking at 'Dirty Bit')

The Playlist is quite good but do we need Kesha, Diddy Dirty Money, B.O.B and Nelly? If they just had a bit more quality control it opens up more space for four other acts e.g Chapel Club, Hadouken!, The Streets, Koudlam, Darwin Deez or The National

Oh don't get me wrong I love Moyles. It's a blog post so it's more like the editor's or the writer's point of view rather than a news story which is what they usually do. Don't want to be defending them though; I don't work for them or wrote the article. Oh well. I need to stop being so defensive. I've been told before I'm too defensive. Maybe it's a good thing.
