But like I said in the shoutbox, microphone or no microphone, we may have just seen his true opinion of the voters

There's another side to every story. I don't think we've heard everything she's said yet. But of course, she could have made quite a bigoted comment, we won't hear about that.

"Gordon Brown does not believe what he said" well, why did he say it then??

EDIT: wait a minute, it was a Sky news microphone he was wearing? Sky, as in part of the media empire controlled by Rupert Murdoch, parts of which have now publicly switched their support to the Tories?

In a way by agreeing to do this for them, he was asking for trouble, not that that excuses him entirely, but Sky were probably hoping and looking for just such a slip-up.

I see Sky news as like a less extreme version of what the US has in Fox News anyways, but this is a low for them too.

Although I'm not a big labour supporter, I do feel sorry for Gordon Brown and respect him. To me he is a proper politician, substance over style, and that is how I believe politics should be done.

When he does inevitably leave Downing Street I was hoping that he would be remembered to be somebody who'd stuck to his beliefs and morals. Unfortunately though, today will destroy him.

Maybe so, she's as much entitled to her opinion as anyone... however Gillian Duffy isn't the candidate campaigning to becoming the next prime minister

Brown is entitled to his opinion also, don't forget the context in which he was speaking (to one of his advisers), i wonder what Cameron has said about people he has met on the street & then talked about them in the car (other private location).

anyway,

hmmm i'm not to keen on Brown however, shame this has happened.

as for the woman

She's sold her story to The Sun for £50k.

Personally I do find her a bit of a bigot with her views against immigration. She reminded me of a UKIP voter with her views. "All these immigrants coming from Eastern Europe... where are they all coming from?" You just answered yourself there love.

bet max cilfford (cu*t) had something to do with it as for the woman i suppose she is going to vote BNP now, she sounds the sort of woman who moans about everything anyway.

*edit, just submitted my comment on the suns site, waiting for it to be checked now.

You can still stand outside with your eggs though Helen. I find those Creme ones do the most damage. I throw like a girl though, unfortunately.

Re. What happened today. I'd agree with Doovde, it was like an episode of The Thick of It.

We're merely being distracted from the far more important issues, namely the actual solid policies of the parties, by this sort of trash media style personality contest.

This is an election, not the f*cking X Factor!

Richard Bacon was saying on his show that there is an episode in Series 1 of The Thick Of It that this was reminding him of, can't remember that specific one meself but then I need to watch that show through again sometime :P

Love the fact that Malcolm Tucker is apparently heavily based on an actual Labour PR guru, or rather a combination of characteristics from a few different ones.

I can't imagine this having a massive impact on Labour's poll ratings. The 26% or so who say they'll vote Labour are likely to be the ardent loyal Labour supporters and those who simply do not want a Tory government and are voting tactically, so I don't foresee a huge downturn in support from this incident.

    • Since Easter at the beginning of April, Vick, Katie and Jamie have been on together just 4 times. Which is crazy for a brand new, high profile Radio 1 show. Imagine Jordan being off that regularly on Capital because of ‘other commitments’ - would never happen.  Jamie has only presented 6 times in the past month. Katie has presented every single show. Given how she got the job at the last minute I think very likely she would have had other commitments, which she will have cancelled/rearranged, cos being Radio 1 drive time host is a massive gig.   Vick, Katie and Jamie - 4 times; Vick and Katie - 10 times; Katie and Jamie - 2 times; Katie and Lauren - 2 times.
    • I see Katie (and Mairead) were out with Jordan tonight.  I don’t listen to the show any longer, I am shocked they are allowed to mention Jordan.
    • At least I do not ask stupid questions…😂
    • I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣
    • A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.
    • Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.
    • Scott's show is on the road next week, live from Malmö in Sweden on Wednesday and Friday, ahead of Eurovision. As he's doing the semi final coverage on the TV on Tuesday and Thursday alongside Rylan, Gary Davies sits in for him on those days.
    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
