I wonder if Katie doesn’t get a promotion to daytimes soon. I wonder if too soon she will go.

Would love to be a fly on the wall at the group outing tonight at the Zara Larsson show.  Think Katie said was her, Nat O'Leary, Dean & Vicky, maybe Danni?

Definately, part of me thinks that they should look to do what they are maybe wrongly pursing with the amount of ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ content that is being commissioned, is that right now it’s going down the populist path trying to recreate something that is akin to the commercial sector Radio 2 are doing that with their extra station that could be cast in doubt not just because of Boom Radio’s objections.
Right now Reprezent a community youth station in London sees an uncertain future ahead of them. They supported the careers of Nels Hylton and had provided space for few of the names of those who did the Christmas presenting. Playing new, fresh and exciting music whether thats rap, electronic and indie stuff all curated by their presenters.
I think the future of the station needs to be seen as the community station of youth culture and should represent that on air. Think the issue with the hot re-occurrences now playlisted on the station with Sophie Ellis-Bextor and previously with Kate Bush the radio 1 playlist and the station itself feels like it’s following after Tik-Tok with it’s playlist not before it.

No way!! I think he must have been poached by Capital surely. What a shame that he never got the Radio 1 Breakfast Show!
I genuinely can’t see anyone obvious waiting in the wings now for R1 Breakfast if Greg steps down. I’m guessing that Matt and Mollie might get it for a little while?

Got to be. I’d like to see there be a station that was any songs that has charted in the top 40 since 1952 on shuffle with no order or theme to what tracks are being played.

Gutted if there's no 1940's. I was gonna request George Formby When I'm Cleaning Windows, and dedicate it to all the 1970's whippersnappers. Telling them this is real music, not your T-Rex nonsense or Garry Glitter.

Was hoping there'd be a Radio 1 Indie personally! But given so much came out in the 00s it's probably going to be a big part of it.

Seems odd (even though they are probably fairly cheap to run) to launch new services while other areas like local radio continue to be cut and cut.
Plus there is an argument these new services are already covered to an extent - Bauer (through Kiss and Absolute) and Global (with Heart) already have decade stations and you have Capital Dance which probably covers much of the ground Radio 1 Dance does.
I guess though it gives further competition and choice for listeners which is no bad thing.
It does seem like the spin-off station that was probably the most distinctive in Radio 1 Relax is the one to go when it probably feels the most like the sort of station a broadcaster like the BBC should be covering elsewhere.

It’s good to refresh often. I think the best way heard throwbacks being aired on the station was bangers and Radio 1’s Greatest Hit’s in 2017-2018 of the stations 50th celebrations. I find its always best when hearing an older track when have presenter or listener picking and choosing older track something that can be given a bit of enthusiasm and excitement than just being pulled out. That said think giving that the station has listed tracks within the last year on the hot recurrent tracks is a decent pragmatic move and which I hope that can give breakout artists first solo tracks to get a spin months or a year after they were released when had one or two tracks out that help them garner support and attention like done before with Wet Leg and last dinner party.
It totally makes sense in May surrounding big weekend.

I think a part of Annie Nighingale’s ability of getting a long career at Radio 1 is that the ability to build good bonds in her 53 years at the station she has probably had over a hundred of producers working on her show not even including the colleagues in the building. She seemed very encouraging and nurturing and co-operative finding ways of give the right advise and saying the right words and helping along the way. I can’t imagine her ever being difficult when Matt Edmonson talked about Radio 1 as family and how she was at the core of the Radio 1 family I feel like Annie would include Martha and the behind the scenes crew in that.

This is quite a tasteless topic to start discussing. Annie died only 4 days ago. I know fantasy schedules and predicting future schedules is the norm on this site, but this comes across as quite disrespectful.

Not to side-track from Annie, who achieved incredible things in her lifetime at Radio 1, and will be hugely missed and remembered for her amazing work and enthusiasm for life -
But, I had the joy of seeing David Rodigan live at a local gig in 2022 (much more my taste in music), and I couldn't believe the energy and passion he brought for an 'older' guy... it was such a wonderful experience. I can only imagine that Annie brought the same euphoria to fans of her style of music.
(I was hoping Greg or someone else on R1 would get Ram Jam involved in the "we need jungle" sideline of the last week)
It is lovely to see the tributes pouring in for Annie though, clearly a much-loved pioneering broadcaster who was, and stayed well respected on a so-called 'youth station', who held an important place on air as well as in everyones' hearts.

And indeed that's why I am still a Radio 1 listener at 46.  I still want to discover new music.   You can never beat that feeling at getting excited by something you are hearing for the first time..

Yes, think definately given a good shake of any ageist attitudes could ever had about the roster of line-up of radio 1 right now. Pete Tong caught his show the other night knowing he was doing a tribute but heard him playing some favourites and new finds. A listened to his show few times few years back think the past few days has me thinking need to listen to some more of radio 1 mixing it up with 6 and stuff like that.
As with 1Xtra I see it as a station that now with having presenters like Trevor Nelson, Seani B, Rodigan, Heartless Crew and Rampage assume the ages that fit the Radio 2 average presenter age. I see it as a station that celebrates the past, present and future of black music and black culture and should be that.
I love that we have presenters who could retire to present nostalgia driven shows on Radio 2 or Greatest Hits but it’s good to have 60s+ whether its Pete Tong, David Rodigan, Steve Lamarq, Tom Robinson, Iggy Pop and even Elton John (on Apple Music 1) having older presenters playing newer stuff. I don’t get how all you’d want to listen to is the music of your teenage years.

Tragic news, RIP Annie. I was a regular listener of hers in the early 10s and an occasional one since then. I'm happy I was able to hear hear the few live shows she did in this period. She will be missed.

Only recently on the chatbox we were in agreement Annie would never "leave" Radio 1.  I would say "sadly" we have been proved right but I am sure that's exactly what she wanted.

I think she always wanted to played the music she loved, which she did. I admired hips she defied her age and always kept exploring new music in ways that you rarely see of elder broadcasters. Think its to say that if you enjoy what you do, and you good at it keep on doing it and that should mean no matter what age you are if you like music no matter of what genre or what era play it and that’s what she did. It’s with respect of the stations controllers that they never looked at her age and age of presenters as a barrier to bringing new music to generations younger than they are. It would’ve been a shame if she wasn’t allowed to continue when she was still at her finest.

So sad to hear of the death of a national treasure and the greatest broadcaster the station a true achievement to have such a longevity of a career at radio 1 being at the forefront of new music for over fifty years. I can assume all the presenters who have been and gone over the past fifty years count Annie as an inspiration. The First Lady who will be remembered for generations to come. Seems rather timely and fitting that Annie Nightingales 6 Music series is being re-played on Radio 6 Music midnight Monday. No feels a timely tribute.

Hopefully. I imagine Radio 2 may well dig deep into the archive as well and air something in tribute. Lovely tribute from Scott on his show just as well.
