  1. Big shout out to you for saying this 20 hours ago - looks like the bosses agree

  2. Really great news I think. After Jordan’s exit weekdays really need strengthening. And it is weird that the weekend afternoon programme is clearly stronger than the weekday afternoon programme (IMO). Dean and Vicky IMO hasn’t worked and they really now need to ensure they keep all their strongest presenters - including Matt and Mollie. BUT weekdays could sound very London/southern - Greg, RMC, M&M, then Jamie Laing too. Unless they might be thinking of moving RMC and replacing with Katie? I like RMC though. Fascinated to know if there may be other changes coming…

  3. I did say that Radio 1 has this habit of throwing curveballs. If you spoke to anyone on here a week ago Matt and Mollie were destined for the exit...! It seems big that they've managed to get them both to commit to daytimes. I feel sorry for Dean and Vicky, they've been quite a good listen, and I assumed they were brought in to offer something different to what Scott offers on Radio 2. M&M feel more competitive for older listeners than Dean and Vicky. Like others say, perhaps they're destined for bigger things further down the line. Also where does this leave the broadcasts from Salford?

  4. I think Matt taking over from Scott would have been to like for like in some eyes now and no one big would have wanted to be the one who replaces him. Where as now the dust has settled on Scott leaving so the new shows an improvement

  5. Apparently Matt & Mollie are going to replace Dean & Vicky on the weekday afternoon show. The Sun reporting, nothing official anywhere. https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/26220485/radio-1-mollie-king-matt-edmonson-jordan-north-exit/

  6. There was a bit of a discussion on the chat about this a few days back so thought it deserved a thread of its own. Have to say come next week I'd say actually I prefer the 'weekend' (Friday-Sunday) line-up to weekdays. Katie and Matt & Mollie are more than weekday worthy and both shows are very listenable and add in Breakfast where you either have the main man in Greg James on Fridays or future stars Sam & Danni on Saturdays and Sundays and you know you'll have good quality shows throughout. The Friday line-up in general is pretty ideal from my side - Greg followed by Katie (with both having an Anthems half-hour each) then Matt & Mollie, Party Anthems, Jack Saunders and then Danny Howard and the rest of the dance team. All great stuff from my side with most of Radio 1's best. The music played too seems to subtly change too from Monday-Thursday. Monday-Thursday Radio 1 are very wedded to the playlist and you can hear songs quite a lot and at the best of times I can find the Radio 1 playlist marmite. Whereas it feels on Friday that even on the normal shows there's more bangers played and you'll also hear a few Radio 1 favourite tracks from the 'recent past' tossed in . Using last Friday as an example you had the likes of Foals's 'The Runner', HAIM's 'Want You Back' and Post Malone's 'Circles' all played in one show and on another MK's 17 and Doja Cat 'Say So' - all still a great fit for Radio 1 and fairly recent but normally you'd be lucky to hear one or at most two of those during a show Monday to Thursday. Even Capital seem to be willing to throw in more 'recent past' tracks these days during Monday-Thursday then Radio 1 are. Other than maybe heading off to Mistajam during the Chart there's little reason for me to switch from Radio 1 on Fridays. Party Anthems is an absolute gem in the schedule too. No show is ever going to be 100% music I like but I normally find myself wondering why more tracks from it aren't on the Radio 1 playlist proper.

    Bored!

You ought of heard the girl in 2005 doing the voice overs then! Stark opposite, she sounded like she was on mdma.

  8. I think it needs to be a mix of both which it seems to do quite well - obviously it has signed some big names in recent years but also some presenters have come from student radio (Sam and Danni come to mind). One thing I don’t think they need is TV names such as Jamie Laing, I think there’s enough big and small radio names that they can use without people like him (although I would have said the same about Mollie King and look how that has turned out)

  9. Fajitagate was one of the things that made me pay attention, their shows have such comedy gold and a tasteful amount of innuendo thrown in, I find them so funny. They are definitely up there at Scott & Chris territory I think.

  10. Wow 😮 I didn’t see that coming! Radio 1 love a curve ball, don’t they?! I think they will be great, they’ve got good chemistry and listeners like them. I remember Matt from the days where he told people not to text in and ask for a shoutout 😂😂. Matt’s an acquired taste but he’s definitely mellowed. They will be good and split Dean and Vicky up

  12. Arielle won't commit to doing a weekend show as her dj commitments. She would realistically do live lounge as she does presenting like Clara and charisma of Annie mac. Would love her on drive. Think people would enjoy that. Think Ricky and Melvin will leave to host on 1xtra leaving Charlie on dance anthems and Friday cover. They clearly like Ore and James so want them in full time at some point. Maybe Nat and Ore on early with James and Vicky on weekends. Not sure where that leaves Dean though maybe Chart to begin with or a weekend breakfast if Sam and danni get drive.

  13. I think that the schedule does need a wider age diversity like how I sense there is at other networks like Kiss and Capital I think with Rickie and Melvin in their forties and presenters mostly in late to mid thirties do think there needs a blend of a twenty something that is more gen z or zillenial at daytime whether thats weekend or weekday.

  14. Id be down for Matt and mollie on daytimes - them and Greg are what’s keeping me listening these days.

  16. Also note the reference to the show being 1300 to 1500 - didn't Jamie Laing mention Going Home starting at 1500 somewhere. Maybe there is a plan or both Jamie and a journalist have got it wrong (very possible).

  17. I wonder if this also shows that they’re not as hellbent on drawing in younger listeners with new, younger presenters as they used to be, and are focusing on retaining the listeners they already have over the coming years. Is this sign of a change in approach to come?

  18. This is huge news if true! So happy for them and it will definitely go down well with listeners. Also shows Matt and Mollie aren’t going anywhere fast - which actually was one of my biggest fears. 😊 makes you wonder if R1 team are actually looking into peoples discussions on here/on social media? Does this mean Dean and Vicky at the weekend? I really enjoyed Dean’s weekend slot he used to have.

  19. I’d give Matt and Moll the Friday too and just have Dean & Vicky weekends (or ideally split them up)

    Sam and Danni

Agree. They have been great this week. I will switch to Capital for Jordan, Chris and Sian but I would be tempted to come back to Radio 1 if it was Sam & Danni on Drive. I don't think I could take Capital all day so I will likely finally switch to Radio 2 after Breakfast. (except Fridays and Saturdays).
