Vern-Off for the weekend?

SHAMED telly star Vernon Kay last night pulled out of his Radio 1 show on Saturday.

He wants to make up with wife Tess Daly instead - and was worried how listeners would react during the live 10am broadcast.

A pal said: "He's asked BBC bosses if he can miss the show as he wants to sort things out.

"We're waiting to hear back, but we expect they will find someone to stand in.

"Obviously it will be difficult for him to broadcast live with all the stuff about his sex texts flying around at the moment.

"It could be uncomfortable for him - especially when he asks listeners to send in texts."

Earlier today it was reported that he had pulled out of his usual 10am slot on his radio show to patch things up with wife Tess Daly.

However, it seems the shamed sex-texting TV star, 35, will be appearing on the show as planned.

Perhaps this means his betrayed wife has found it in her heart to forgive him despite having text saucy messages, on numerous occasions, to lustful women.

One thing’s for sure though, if you need some perking up this Saturday morning, just send Vern a text at Radio 1 for an instant fix…

Firstly, I know Jono quoted this off Metro and these arent his own words.

Am I the only person who thinks that this is yet again another story not worthy of being in the papers? Ok ok, if its true then he shouldnt have been sending flirty texts to her, but at the end of the day its a private matter for Vern to deal with and as I understand it, they were only texts.

I know I've said this before, and I will almost certainly be saying it again in future, but this is yet another example of the papers stirring up peoples private business and trying to create sensationalist stories, and is the main reason I prefer not to read them.

It is nobodys business but Vern and Tess's and the papers should really be leaving them alone. I'm glad he is doing the show as originally planned, sadly there will be people who feel compelled to text in regarding the "story" but I hope they are overwhelmingly outnumbered by those of us who text in about the show and things they are talking about in the studio.

If you are in a career such as Vernon's the press will always report on your private life. It's something that modern stars of the media have to accept. This is now the way of the press. I'm a big fan of Vernon and believe his career will recover, but this is his mistake, not the press's.

Yes I accept that someone in the public eye, particularly a TV and radio presenter such as Vernon will have a story printed about them, no matter how private or newsworthy it is. It is not right that they have to accept this will happen to them, however the media and the celebrity gossip driven society we live in dictate that they have no choice in the matter.

He put his hands up and admitted it, that should be an end to a story that never really was a story anyway. The media in this country seem to take too much interest in peoples lives and privacy etc goes right out the window.

No it isn't. But it's the way it is and the way it always will be. Life isn't fair, and if you want a career in the media, you've got to get used to that fact. Vernon would have been as aware of that as anyone.

    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
    • Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
    • James Cusack is in for Jack on Friday 14th June, doing the chart while Jack is at Download.
    • I remember hearing Amy first on Scotts show and she was great on that, the daft quiz questions always made me smile. It's really nice to see the hard work has paid off for them all.
