The end of Jo and Edith on day time

It will be a massive change to lose both Jo and Edith from the daytime schedule...ok they will still be around at weekends...but you get used to certain voices at certain times, im sure I heard a listener one morning, panic because they heard scott on breakfast and thought they had massively overslept!

And this year they have also lost Steve Lamacq and Colin.

R1 is definitely going for a very different feel. A brand new R1 to coincide with the start of the new academic year.

seems like Fearne will be doing the 'Live Lounge' after all & not Jo;

Cotton, whose TV roles have included presenting Top of the Pops, Comic Relief and Children in Need, replaces Jo Whiley, 44, as Radio 1’s mid-morning presenter and host of its eclectic Live Lounge segment

Im really glad that Jo is ending her daytime stint with the live lounge tour, at least with her in the afternoons at weekends, there might be a bit less sports coverage!

I know that some people love listening to sport...and I can cope with some...but every time Ive switched on recently Vernon and Nihal have been talking about yet another match.

I wonder if Edith will do an outside broadcast from somewhere in Scotland for her show?

As a regular listener on Monday - Friday from 7:00am - 5:00pm I have never really taken to Jo's morning show. But today just hit home that i think i will miss her. She is very clever at what she does and appears to do it with no effort. I think it only really hit home how good she is today after her saying it was her last show in the studio. I know she is not leaving but 5 days of Fearne Cotton!?

I know this has been mentioned alot of late but I hope this change does not back fire on Radio 1....

      I suspect they’re gonna tie the announcement into something, or they’ve changed plans. I know we’ve said it as a joke but I wonder if Aled was planning on giving it to someone like Danny Beard, but he’s decided against that after the last few weeks. Seems clear to me, though, that if Jordan hadn’t left, then Katie would’ve taken Dean and Vicky’s slot and Matt and Mollie would’ve stayed on weekends, which probably explains why they haven’t picked a replacement yet. If it was going to be the obvious choice, I.e. James Cusack, surely they would’ve announced it by now..?

      Yep think they mentioned that this is their penultimate weekend of shows but then they will also be on air during Big Weekend and they mentioned they'll be doing 'Party Anthems' on stage during Big Weekend which sounds intriguing. Will miss Matt & Mollie on weekends - they in particular have made that Friday afternoon slot their own - but they'll be great on weekdays. Do wonder if 'Summer on Radio 1' is just a placeholder name until they decide on who will cover the interim. While it's obviously not the case it does feel like they've forgotten there's that weekend afternoon slot to fill given no permenant presenter has been announced for it yet.

      When Matt covered breakfast on 22nd April, he said their new show was starting in 10 weeks, so that’d be the 1st July.

      I think more likely it'll just be a temp presenter for weekends 1-4 to give Matt & Mollie time off, plus time to plan and pilot the new show.

      Yeah I don’t think they’ll be anything that drastic - maybe a week or 2 of cover on early breakfast etc, but maybe just having that weekend afternoon slot covered over the summer means they can put someone on from September who maybe isn’t available until then?

      I wouldn't be surprised if they do this around June time: 05.00 Ore Olukoga 07.00 Greg James 10.30 RMC 14.00 VKJ  That'll probably happen (for my guess) from the 17th June.       The Summer on Radio 1 thing makes me wonder whether they might be doing something similar to last year again where they have a temporary schedule over the summer before introducing changes in September - maybe the new host won’t start until after the summer?
