The Daily Mail also talk of Chris' episode which sounds pretty fascinating.

Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles set out to discover the meaning of his surname. 'I think it's Gaelic for soldier. I hope it isn't flower arranger,' he says at the start of his search, which took him to Ireland-where his maternal grandmother Hannah's early life was spent in Dublin's notorious slums.

Hannah was raised by relatives after her mother, Annie, was admitted to the workhouse suffering with tuberculosis.

His search continued with his father's side, leading him to discover that his surname means 'bald' - derived from ancestors who worked for monks. And, yes, even he has a Paxman moment discovering a great-grandfather who was shot in the head in the war.

'At the beginning it was only about a name,' he says. 'But this is our story.'

He is abrasive and arrogant, and his risqué remarks have often left others feeling bruised.

Critics called for Radio 1 disc jockey Chris Moyles to be sacked after he made insensitive comments about the tendency of celebrities on the BBC’s

genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are? to visit Auschwitz.

But the thick-skinned Moyles was reduced to tears when he appeared on the same show and discovered how his great-grandfather was killed at Ypres in the First World War.

Leeds-born Moyles, 35, reveals an unexpectedly sensitive side to his character while tracing his family roots back to Ireland in an episode of the BBC1 series to be broadcast on July 22.

He becomes sombre when he learns that his maternal grandmother, Hannah Nelson, lived in the worst slums of Dublin when her mother Anne was admitted to a workhouse infirmary suffering from tuberculosis in 1913.

Anne died at 33 the following year but Hannah survived into her 70s, dying when Moyles was four.

Anyhow, my aunt and uncle are into all this family-tree stuff, and they came up with all this really tedious stuff from the past.... so boring. Also, the name "Johnston" (my surname) is all to do with sheep-stealers. That's really what anyone wants to be associated with : stealing sheep from fields :rolleyes::x

They filmed the Golden Hour, so it looks like he's a normal DJ.

They'll have had shock tuning in this morning ;)

A new episode of Midsomer Murders brought 6 million viewers and a 28% share to ITV1 between 8pm and 10pm.

This was enough to push the Chris Moyles episode of Who Do You Think You Are? into second place, with the genealogy show bringing 4.7 million viewers and a 20% share to BBC1 in the 9pm hour.

The BBC1 show was down on last week's launch episode for series seven featuring Davina McCall, which pulled in 6.4 million viewers and a 29% share.

BBC2's Dragons' Den picked up 3 million viewers and a 13% share in the 9pm hour. Channel 4's Big Brother drew 2.1 million and a 9% share in the same slot, with a further 354,000 on Channel 4 +1 an hour later.

      I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!

      I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter

      I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?

      Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.

      Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.

      I remember hearing Amy first on Scotts show and she was great on that, the daft quiz questions always made me smile. It's really nice to see the hard work has paid off for them all.
