Scott was talking about learning Spanish today & how the Spanish language made him think about holidays etc, well him talking about it made me instantly think of this track, is this what he had in mind ?

Wow, tuuune! I remember dancing to that in school discos, brilliant.

Although, upon reflection, they seem quite angry when they sing at the start :(

I'd like to learn Welsh or Spanish.

I wonder if the Alphabet song is the same basic tune in different languages/countries?

Feel I should mention at this point that whatever the hell they're saying in the Ketchup Song, it most definitely is NOT Spanish... it just sounds like complete gobbledygook (sp?) to me.

So save the last dance

For me my love 'cause I

there are english translations of it & the only bit that doesn't seem to translate is the chorus

aserejè ja de jè de jebe tu de jebere seibiunouva,

majavi an de bugui an de buididipi,

aserejè ja de jè de jebe tu de jebere seibiunouva,

maavi ann debuuui ann debuudidipi

The best way for him to learn is to go to an actual class, and stick to it. That's what I did when I went to Spanish night classes in 2004.... these tapes you can get out of magazines, or requesting them on-line are so difficult to stick to. At a class, you have people all moving in the same direction, and it can become quite competitive, which I personally enjoyed.

I know Chappers is bringing something in off of a newspaper, but I'd bet anything it winds up in the bin.

At the end of our Spanish session, our teacher took us to a Spanish restaurant in Glasgow. And just before Xmas, she showed us a Spanish movie, which had some mild porn in it!! I don't think she had reviewed it properly before showing it to us!! I remember our class was kind of mildly embarassed!!

Russian is actually OK, EF4L... once you've mastered the alphabet, you're away.. it's not as difficult as it appears!!

Por supuesto. I'd be more than happy to offer my help.

Hmm in Spain you'd probably shout 'It's only f*cking Friday' on the radio. They don't worry too much about swearing on air over there. The 'c' word is in constant use on daytime telly too.

OK. I think the only suitable one would be "It's only son of a bitch Friday"!

"Es solo hijo de puta Viernes"!

Also could R1 peeps start pronouncing Ibiza correctly? It is a short 'i' at the beginning as in 'igloo'. At least they appear to have got the hang of the 'th' sound for the 'z' though.

PS. The chorus of Ketchup song is nonsense.

'To disagree with three-fourths of the British public is one of the first requisites of sanity'.

lol

that song by Las Ketchups, is indeed Spanish.

In the chorus part was taken from the chorus of "Rapper's Delight" by The Sugarhill Gang. Listen to it, you'll see what I mean.

- Did you use Google translate to translate "it's bloody Friday?"

there's a bit of different ways to say it...but I believe you'd like to say this:

- Es viernes coño

Yes, some of it is indeed in Spanish. Other parts are total gibberish however. You're right re Sugar Hill Gang tho'.

No. I speak Spanish, and have tried to work out the only acceptable translation that would be broadcastable. Lo siento, pero 'coño' is not a word that would be in any way, shape of form acceptable on Radio 1

'To disagree with three-fourths of the British public is one of the first requisites of sanity'.
