Studio at big weekend

They arn't using a studio as such as they did last year. As mentioned above, most programs have been coming from BBC Wilsthire.

When they have been doing live shows from the grounds, they may have a production studio, or I think they will just have a Tech Op at BBC Whilshire studios (or London) driving the equipment.

This is the only studio (ish) image i've seen so far

Even though it dosn't really show any of the studio.

I thought Chris Moyles did his breakfast show on Friday from the venue as Dave was going around on a buggy! Chris would def have mentioned if he had a techy working desk! Just be interested to see what it looks like!

Yeah he said something like he was in a truck that had been designed by engineers. 85% technical and 15% studio.

I wasn't really referring to Moyles' show, just live shows. The main live shows have been from 1pm...

By live in this instance I meen from the actual venue and backstage.

People like Vernon and Grimmy have been broadcasting from BBC Whilshire. I'm not sure about Moyles, they had very good studio quality so I thought that they where in BBC Whilthire studios with Dave/Aled driving around on the site.

I may be wrong!! Jus interested to have a look inside to see how it compares to a normal studio!

If you look at last years, it was just a mic and small mixing desk. Then the audio wall from the playout system. It didn't include include the other half of the playout system (music)....They where played from somewhere else.

Weirdly though they have kept well away from the studio pictures this year.

Hi.

I have been browsing for a while but this thread prompted me to register finally!

The studio at big weekend is as has been said before BBC Radio Outside Broadcast's 'Sound 4'

Its a relativly new truck which is there newest lorry.

To clear up some confusion, there is a full Studio that is built in the back of the lorry including all music playout and jingles etc it is then linked to the main area where it is linked to the london control room via an ISDN connection and then broadcast live to radio 1. So there are no tech op's sitting in any studios doing anything that was coming directly from the site. So chris's show on friday was run in the same way a normal show is run but with dave on a high power radio link which is mixed in the main technical area of the truck.

For anyone who wants pictues of the truck i can upload them when i get home later!

Hope this clears some things up! if anyone wnats anymore info let me know!

Although i'm sure your probably something to do with the BBC and the above post is incredibly correct, that statement (in quote) about Tech Ops is wrong.

Although there will not have been a tech op 'driving' the show as such, there WILL have been a tech op/engineers within the London studios incase anything went wrong/lines went down (they would need to then play music until the line was established) and probably incase News needed anything doing, e.g clips.

I don't dispute anything else you say but that I definatly do as its wrong....

Sorry and thanks for the extra info. I'm sure some other geeks here would like photos though!

No one is in the london studio's, all the lines are linked to the main control room in Broadcasting House, There is at least 2 lines per show, 1 main + 1 backup. The news team have separate studio inside R1 so all that is done from there.

The plan incase the lines go down is that after a set amount of time below set levels from any broadcast passing through the control room. (all BBC radio output) there is a backup CD that will kick in thus meaning the only people required are the control room op's who are needed day to day anyway. as the lines come straight into the control room.

I will do my best to put some pictures up later!

Yes i'm aware of the procedures but as you've also answered, there is a Tech Op needed (although you call them control ops).

If the output goes off and both lines fail (as i said in original post), the control ops will not let the station go to back-up cd, they will play something down the line whilst they re-connect the lines or find some of way of doing it.

And...somewhere the Newsbeat studio will have to be loaded into the on-air chain...Eg a control op (or Tech op)...It may only have to done once but it will have to be done at some point.

Anyway, as again, thanks for the input, etc....Look forward to see some pictures as its more interesting to see how they've changed since the original BBC pictures.
