Radio 1's new voiceover guy

Hello There,

Does anyone know the name of the voiceover for almost all the ads for the Big Weekend. It's a guy with a quite strong accent from i don't know where.

Here is a clip from his voice : http://www.radios-fr.com/bigweekend.mp3

Thanks,

Alex.

That link has too many DJ voices to know who you're on about. A better clip would help.

I am inclined, however, to say Zane Lowe.

I don't think this new guy sounds very good. I liked the big husky voice of the bloke before. How long is it since Radio 1 changed their jingles? I know they've had new voices, but the whole package hasn't changed since the 'One Love, One Station, Radio 1' days, which must have been about 3 or 4 years ago now?

Sorry to be anorakky!

I like the "shove that up your telly hole" voiceover guy off of E4 - I expect he wanted too much money or something though.

He does work for Radio 1 on special occasions. Like the One Night With Laura, and New Year's specials.

Not too sure, but they have a unique thing running at the moment, with the 'ber der dum' sort of theme that you hear in the Newsbeat, Chart Show and Radio 1 events jingles. I don't think they really need changing, as they are regularly adding new ones in, and creating new bit over the latest records. The newsbeat jingles have only recently been changed.

The new guy is OK but he's not as good as the previous one. Radio 1 used to have great imaging, during the "One Love, One Station" days. If I remember rightly they used to have sung music4 jingles too which sounded good on air too.

I get a bit fed up of hearing the same thing over the endings/intros of songs. It's either:

- Radio 1 Podcasts - Download them at bbc.co.uk/radio1

- Listen Again at bbc.co.uk/radio1

- 1xtra - hear more on 1xtra, DAB, etc

For some reason the "Digital, FM, Online" strapline dosen't annoy me as much though.

Sorry about that rant, I hope someone at Radio 1's production department is reading ;)

it's a well known fact that the imaging was better 5 and 6 years ago. but i guess they had to change it around, people would of been complaning saying they were bored of it. as i said, it is better than it was 2 years ago though.

on the grid.

nah it has never sounded as good as back then to me. i always seemed to listen to radio 1 a lot when i was at school, it's a bit like the old itv news stuff, like the old news at 10. it was a lot more striking and so was radio 1.

on the grid.

Jodi was very drunk at One Big Weekend. They didn't even give him a guest pass, there were 8 year olds getting more backstage access than him. Compared to other voices that Radio 1 have used over the last few years like Stevie Cripps, Latham is very poor. The voice of the Station needs to be strong, it gives a sense of the station and really sets it up. I agree with Jono is saying. I mean, you have to be a famous actor now to even do vox on the Radio 1 imaging.

I liked Stevie Cripps' voice. I don't think that the new guy Jodi has a strong enough voice and his accent sounds a bit out of place on a radio station that can be heard internationally. They needed a voice that was a bit more "neutral" so to speak.

When he says "wake up with Moyles, get home with Mills" he sounds like he's never heard of the two. I'll get used to it, but seems a waste to have got rid of the last guy who did a great job.

    • Since Easter at the beginning of April, Vick, Katie and Jamie have been on together just 4 times. Which is crazy for a brand new, high profile Radio 1 show. Imagine Jordan being off that regularly on Capital because of ‘other commitments’ - would never happen.  Jamie has only presented 6 times in the past month. Katie has presented every single show. Given how she got the job at the last minute I think very likely she would have had other commitments, which she will have cancelled/rearranged, cos being Radio 1 drive time host is a massive gig.   Vick, Katie and Jamie - 4 times; Vick and Katie - 10 times; Katie and Jamie - 2 times; Katie and Lauren - 2 times.
    • I see Katie (and Mairead) were out with Jordan tonight.  I don’t listen to the show any longer, I am shocked they are allowed to mention Jordan.
    • At least I do not ask stupid questions…😂
    • I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣
    • A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.
    • Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.
    • Scott's show is on the road next week, live from Malmö in Sweden on Wednesday and Friday, ahead of Eurovision. As he's doing the semi final coverage on the TV on Tuesday and Thursday alongside Rylan, Gary Davies sits in for him on those days.
    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
