BBC Sounds Data

Always fascinating to take a look at the charts included with the BBC Sounds data.

Released at midnight was the Q4 2022 data which you can see here.

Radio 1's Murder Mystery seems to have done good business at attracting Under 35's with that and the 'Afterlife' podcast taking places in the top 4. Greg James is the most listened to Radio 1 show on demand via BBC Sounds, with Vick and Jordan also in the top 10.

BUT... the one that really caught my attention is the Scott Mills Daily Podcast still being in 4th place on the 'Top Podcasts % U35 Skew' - which is significant as this period is October to December, meaning there were zero new episodes but clearly lots of people still catching up....

How curious! I wondered whether it'd shift the chart, but evidentally not enough yet!

Another RAJAR day means more BBC Sounds data - this time covering 02/01/2023 till 02/04/2023 - full data here.

Scott Mills Daily R1 Podcast is still in the 'Top Ten Podcasts - Under 35 Skew' chart, in at fourth place - amazing considering this'll be reaching 6 months with no new episodes, but enough U35's are still choosing to listen back.

Vick and Jordan's podcast & All Day Breakfast with Greg taking places 2 and 3 in that chart. On actual radio programmes, R1 00's is in top followed by Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James.

More BBC Sounds data released today for Q2 2023 - you can see the full thing here.

Amazingly the 'Scott Mills Daily' R1 Podcast is still within the 'Top Ten Podcast - Under 35 Skew', rising 1 place on last quarter as it's now in third place. Vick and Jordan's Podcast is in second place & Greg is in 5th.

For actual Radio show catchups, Radio 1 00s is in second place, Greg is third and Vick & Jordan are fourth. Generic 'Radio 1 Breakfast' (when people cover), Future Artists, Party Anthems & Future Sounds make up the Top 10

A shame we'll probably never get an update to that podcast!

Here we go again.... another RAJAR day so more BBC Sounds Data. Full PDF is here.

Scott Mills Daily continues to be the 4th biggest 'OD Programme - U35 Skew'... but it is also the BIGGEST 'Under 35 Skew Podcast':

1 = Scott Mills Daily
2 = At Home With Vick & Jordan
3 = 6 Degrees from Jamie & Spencer
4 = All Day Breakfast with Greg James

I think Greg James falls below Vick & Jordan for podcasts because he has the 2nd biggest show on listen backs, just behind Radio 1 00s.

1 = Radio 1 00s
2 = Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James
3 = Radio 1 DJ Hunt
4 = Radio 1's Scott Mills Daily
5 = Radio 1's At Home With Vick & Jordan
8 = Going Home with Vick & Jordan

    • https://youtu.be/A_Cycjg5_9A?si=NiLTFeiTNWBExFoR   As barmy as Sam Ryder has now gone, as shown in this video. I'd still rather it than that bland Olly Alexander record.
    • I like Scott, and I listen to Rylan's show every week... they do sound great together on Eurovision etc but.. as for a daily show together, I don't think it would work. Rylan would probably have to reign it in a bit which would lose his appeal, otherwise it may become too chaotic, in my opinion. That Saturday slot is perfect for Rylan, his rapport with Sally Traffic and Lottie is great. I suppose it comes down to cost as well and if he would want a daily show?   Radio 2 are clearly happy with Scott's show, and considering he's just won Best Entertainment Show at the ARIA's, I can't see them changing much.
    • A win for Scott which is fantastic after the last few years he's been through!
    • Am I outnumbered for not wanting to work in radio? It feels like there's a lot of geeks that want a job in the industry here.
    • Thought Sam and Danni were robbed of an award.
    • OJ Borg is in for Trevor Nelson on the Rhythm Nation tonight (with Phill Williams on overnight). He's also in for Michael Ball for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th May). Ros Atkins (BBC's Analysis editior) is in for Jeremy Vine on Thursday. Another new name to Radio 2 is Oliver Hides from BBC Radio Wales. He sat in for Owain Wynn Evans yesterday and he's in again this Thursday (9th May) and Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Spoony in for Scott Mills from Tuesday 28th till Friday 31st May.
    • Thought they would make it easier to get to this event. There's been no communication from the council or organisers about travel, even though there's talk of train strikes. Smaller councils have done a better job.
    • They do sound good together, but I'm not sure Rylan will want the extra commitments.
    • I have accepted Chris is unlikely to join Scott's show, and that Chappers has moved on, but I still think he could do with a co-host. The most logical solution, I think, is Rylan. He appears more often on his show than not, and they are great together. Radio 2 could lose Rylan's Saturday show and extend his reach by appearing during the week. I think they'd be great!
    • Tattoo took a while to grow on me. I couldn't see the fuss until weeks after. We have a split household here where the war on Gaza is overshadowing an enjoyment. I'm hoping for a protest of some sort.
    • I've heard that the staging is very impressive.  That and him being "known" might prevent an embarrassing result.  I'm a terrible judge of Eurovision though as Tattoo is still so very meh to me.
    • Feels like after the success of Sam Ryder we are going back to our old ways. Olly Alexander's song is pretty weak. Anyone fancy our chances this year?
    • The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.
