That is great news. By the sounds of it, they're getting new jingles they can use on the TV version of Newsbeat they're going to do on the BBC World Service. Strangely, they don't want any sports or weather beds it seems. I know they're dropping the weather, but it doesn't make sense to drop sport because it's still relevant, and therefore deserves its own bed.

Where it says

The current Newsbeat theme and sonic logo should not be used as a template or inspiration for this commission.

do you think that means there will be new format to the jingles, e.g. instead of a ramp in with the "Listen watch share" cutting in, could it be like how it was before the 2007 package where there was as much or as little time as needed to introduce the news, or even a straight in without any intro, like on 6 Music?

Either way, looking forward to replacing these ageing dull ones at last!

I hadn't actually noticed that it was not asking for them until just now! Unless they're planning on using the 3 main beds for news sport and weather? Serious for news, Medium for weather and Upbeat for sport?

I kind of hope that Music4 jump on this, their NewsBeat stuff was always good!

Possibly as dont forget they share the news with 1Xtra and have to hit the bed intro at a certain time. It would make sense to have something a bit slicker

Capes :)

So the deadline for the demo's is closed. I don't really know what to expect with this new one if I'm honest!

I'm hoping it will be a similar format to either the current ones or the pre-2007 ones, I'm not a huge fan of the 6Music style in etc. With any luck though, they'll be a lot better than the current ones!

I'm probably in the minority here as I actually think the current ones are cool and OK as they are. They're not too loud and a little catchy...I see the introduction of new ones a ticking time bomb, as they could be too overpowering and not fit in with the rest of the stations branding.

It does interest me though how they use many different companies for their sounds. Koink did the current Newsbeat, Pure Jingles do the main station jingles and Wise Buddah did the Radio 1 Breakfast Show. Moyle fans may remember Music4 did his show music. It'd be interesting to see what Koink could come up with second time round, and also how Pure Jingles would create a theme to fit in with the stations jingles.

I never specifically disliked the current package, but I always loved the Music4 one that preceded it. Heard it on a Moyles clip the other day and it just sounds so exciting and has a great build-up.

Same here, I've preferred most of the ones previous to it and this one just never lived up to them. Plus, after three years I was sick of it! Who remembers the days when there'd be a new news package in January each year? Good times for Radio 1.

(Oh and by the way, as in one of my threads I'm still looking for the news packages from around that period (2003-2006 ish) if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated)

I agree. Music4 always produce some fantastic work, and their Newsbeat work was very good. The current one I think sounds quite dull. The best bit was when Moyles did 'Listen, Watch, Cher'.

I reckon it will be more of a 2003/4 feel, more corporate with the original Lambje Nairn news channel mix being an element. This theme will be used on the Global Newsbeat shows which will be launching soon on the World News Channel and World Service.

This is the one I meant:

I have a feeling we will hear this new Newsbeat stuff in September when the line up changes. Sounds like a reasonable time for them to change.

Well that didn't happen. If they've gone to the trouble of revoicing the current jingles, could be a while until the new package goes to air. The current package was commissioned in July 2010 but wasn't used until June 2011, so it might be a long wait.

I know, was a bit disappointed when the current one came on on monday. True, but they've always re voiced the news with the station regardless. Plus they keep using the Mike and Katie intro at the moment, not sure why!

It's sad how much that annoys me! Glad Greg used it, but only for the 5:45 and not all the others! I can think of two possible explanations: either they've been told not to play the version with the new voices for whatever reason, or each DJ has a copy of the News In on their own cartwall pages, so they don't have the new version and play out the older version they've got.

Is this what it will be like when the new news jingles are launched? Some DJs still playing the old in which is then followed by the new news bed- will sound awful! Seems strange that all the DJs can play the new sweepers and IDs but not the news though.

    • Tara Kumar is in for Alyx on Sunday 13th July.
    • Conor Knight & Lauren Layfield are in for Matt & Mollie on Monday 14th July.  Matt is solo on Tuesday 15th July.  Jerry is in for Mollie between Wednesday 16th & Thursday 24th July.  Maia Beth is covering Future Pop on Wednesday 16th & Wednesday 23rd July. On Sunday 27th July the Chillest Show is reduced to an hour, and 20.00-21.00 is a BBC Proms special with JADE. On Thursday 31st July 18.00-20.00 in place of Jack's show it's the Dance Party Warm-Up with Danny Howard (ahead of the Ibiza weekend).
    • Dean McCullough in for Greg w/c 4th August. James Cusack on EB.
    • Well looks like Mollie is off all month now so presumably a personal matter.
    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
