Radio 1 Predictions for 2014

What do you think will happen at Radio 1 in 2014?

My hope is that Scott remains the presenter of a daytime show. It would be great if Moyles made a return although it seems very unlikely now.

I think some more of the remaining legendary names of Radio 1 will bow out, I wonder if we will see Annie Nightingale move on.

Scott will stay where he is I think with Chris, Dev to go back to weekends? Sara to make her Radio 1 final finale as will Edith imo.

I think Scott will remain where he is, although this time next year, I think the main discussion on here will be if Scott's contract will be renewed or not (and I have a horrible feeling it won't be), and then what will happen to Chris, whether he'll move to another show? Sidekick to Matt perhaps?

The next set of Rajar's will be crucial for Grimmy. If they go under that 5.5 million mark, I think he'll be off and Greg will take over breakfast, probably around April time, or September again. Probably expect a Grimmy and Greg swap like Sara and Chris was back in 2004. However, I'd hope that Greg would get breakfast and Moyles would fill the drivetime slot with Aled producing, but I doubt that will happen. Moyles back on drivetime would be brilliant though, and would help increase the listening figures again for the station as a whole, but with the whole age thing at Radio 1 now, I can't see Moyles returning unfortunately :(.

I think Dev will move from his slot soon. Perhaps a slot on 1Xtra and replace Trevor Nelson if he decided to leave? Or maybe back on weekend breakfast? Would love to see Pete Allison get a permanent slot, hopefully Early Breakfast. Think he's really good!

Fearne will stay where she is. Phil & Alice will remain, although I can see both of them (Alice especially) doing a lot more cover work next year. She'd be great as Fearne's replacement in a couple of years. Both are the biggest surprises of this year.

I really hope they sort weekends out! Gemma needs to go quickly, possibly replaced by Dev. Huw could do with going now too. I don't not like him, but I just find him a bit meh. Possibly replaced by Adele or Dev?

I can see Jameela leaving the chart within the year. She seems lovely, but a natural radio presenter she isn't! Perhaps move Grimmy from breakfast and put him on the chart instead?

Zane better stay! Hoping Annie Nightingale and Pete Tong can also avoid the 'get rid of older DJs' strategy. I think Sara and Edith will probably both leave, which will be a big shame. Always liked both of them, Sara in particular. I did hear a rumour that Sara could be introduced into the Radio 2 daytime lineup soon.

I did read the Ben Cooper had I think an 18 month plan or something from Moyles' departure? Something like that anyway. So that should be ending soon. I do wonder whether his plan all along has been to put Greg eventually on breakfast and let Grimmy deal with the loss in listeners that was always going to occur?

Dev stay where he is . Would put money on a Grimmy/Greg swap in september! No chance of a Moyles return... Backwards step! And he said he won't return to radio for a while. Sara is a gonna sadly... But Edith might stay she is doing a kind of specialist show now so it soesn't matter plus it sounds young and fresh, nice and quick unlike her 6music show!. They won't get rid of Pete now as he just got an MBE plus it would be station suicide in the dance music scene! Annie Nightingale will stay, it would be ageism of the worst kind if they sacked her! Matt will replace Scott next year, but think Scott will stay and when he goes chris will side for Matt... Zane deserves to stay after his incredible 2013 with the jay z Kanye and Eminem interviews! Love Phil and Alice! Could see Alice repleacing fearne and Phil replacing zane! Jameela NEEDS to go!!!! Weekends apart from Matt and Danny Howard are awful!!!!!!! Sort it out radio 1!!!!

Dev should get a promotion at some point this year. He is by far the station's hardest working DJ! He could maybe replace Huw Stephens who REALLY NEEDS TO GO! He is beyond awful! He tries far too hard like he knows he needs to step up his game. His shows are actually painful to listen to!

I'd quite like to see Greg or Scott on Breakfast although Scott said he didn't want it full-time.

Fearne will stay although I think she will bow put in a few years. I'd want Annie Mac replacing her however I doubt that will happen.

Scott will stay where he is. His shows are sounding great at the moment. The introduction of Producer Cara and Assistant Producer Chris have seen a big improvment in the quality (sorry Beccy and TOTDS!)

Pete Allison on Drivetime would sound good. I've listened to his shows when he has been covering early breakfast and was impressed by the quality of the show.

Night-time should stay as it is. I don't listen to these shows past Zane but don't generally have a problem with the DJ's.

I agree with the above post, weekends are bloody awful. Like I said Huw out Dev in. Matt Edmondson only needs to be on one day not two. His shows are beginning to sound repetitive (ie same guests, same features with same guests, silly features which include Producer Ahmed creating jingles for the Track of The Day in the same repetitive silly voice with Matt laughlin at ecpvery opportunity. The list is endless) A student radio DJ could maybe pick up the other day.

The Official Chart, BRING BACK REGGIE! Jameela makes the show sound so scipted and false it is unbearable to listen to. Reggie at least injected a sense of his personality into the role. Dan and Phil, well, I like the idea of the Request Show but the show just feels aimed 12/13 year olds in terms kf c

I think there wil be a big reshuffle in september and the centre piece will be Greg taking over breakfast, following poor RAJARS Grimmy will either move to drivetime or leave the station altogether.Ben Cooper might use the shuffle to move Scott to weekends because he's in his 40s but it's going to be difficult to justify that given his popularity and obvious talent .If he is moved Matt Edmondson is favourite to take over. Dev is another contender.Dev will probably get Matts weeknd slot if Matt replaces scott . I have a feeling that Jameela might leave since she's not being used much. If so maybe Scott will take over the chart show.As for Coxy it could be that next friday wil be her last show on the station :(

As for specialist DJs I agree with Jono that Annie Nightingale might retire this year, with B Traits getting a friday night show.I also thought Pete Tong might be moved on,but given his MBE and the fact he's still at the top of his game maybe he'll stay. Nihal might also be moved on since he's been there so long .

Anyone notice Dev's tweet tonight. Some news in the Sun tomorrow #AllChange

To do with Radio 1 or perhaps not? Maybe something he is doing instead.

I've heard a rumour that Sarah Jane Crawford is taking over early breakfast in an attempt to help shore up Grimmys audience. . .Here she is looking pretty hot in the Sun today. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/fabulous/5366874/This-weeks-cover-star-is-Sarah-Jane-Crawford.html No idea whats happening to Dev. I will be sad if he's been axed or quit, esp after all the hard work he did over xmas :(

Was hoping for Pete Allison to take over early breakfast when Dev left that slot :(

Perhaps Dev is moving to 1Xtra then?

Matt Deegan who seems to be in the radio know (some might know his blog) has tweeted whether there is going to be some sort of Radio 1 announcement. Maybe there might be something then.

I suppose it is possible that Dev could swap with Sarah and take over her afternoon show on one extra. He could still fill in for DJs on radio one.

Dev has just said he is making an official announcement on air at 6am about the future of the early breakfast show, and has referred to another unnamed DJ .All the signs are that he's leaving :(

Dev has just announced that Gemma Cairney is taking over earlies from the end of march-Dev is moving to weekend breakfast. I wonder if this is part of a wider reshuffle?

    • I see Katie (and Mairead) were out with Jordan tonight.  I don’t listen to the show any longer, I am shocked they are allowed to mention Jordan.
    • At least I do not ask stupid questions…😂
    • I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣
    • A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.
    • Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.
    • Scott's show is on the road next week, live from Malmö in Sweden on Wednesday and Friday, ahead of Eurovision. As he's doing the semi final coverage on the TV on Tuesday and Thursday alongside Rylan, Gary Davies sits in for him on those days.
    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
