Sara Cox has admitted that she is trying to "weedle [her] way in" to Radio 2 as she begins to think about leaving Radio 1.

The 38-year-old DJ, who joined Radio 1 in 1999, told Digital Spy that she is aware her time at the station "won't last forever"."I keep loitering around Radio 2 and smiling at the boss, so he's well aware that I'm trying to weedle my way in," she said.

"You always have to sort of look ahead. But yeah, I am [thinking about after Radio 1]... Like they used to say about Tiffany in EastEnders - no-one's bigger than the show, darling.

"There's no DJ that's bigger than Radio 1, we've found that out quite a few times over the decades. It's a brilliant station and it's been an exciting and love filled and complicated relationship. I'm grateful that I'm still there, but of course it won't last forever."

Cox added that the fact she has never pretended to be "down with the kids" means she doesn't "feel compromised" on the occasions when she provides cover on Radio 2.

"I think it's helpful because I've never been the sort of broadcaster who's pretended to be down with the kids, it's a bit 'vicar in trainers'," she said.

"I'd never say, 'Cor, I was at a Skrillex gig last night'. I don't pretend to be anything that I'm not, and I think that's actually becoming quite handy because I can make the transition. I'm still relevant on Radio 1 and I fit in quite nicely on Radio 2 as well."On whether she'd ever leave the BBC, Cox explained: "I feel a bit like I was sort of raised and hatched by the BBC thanks to Radio 1.

"I feel a bit like Blackpool rock. I don't want you to chop my leg off and check, but it'd say BBC in the middle, so I'm hoping to continue that on Radio 2."

Cox also told Digital Spy that she wants Chris Moyles's devout fans to "move on" and accept his Radio 1 Breakfast Show successor Nick Grimshaw.

Well good luck to Coxy and I hope she gets on R2 full time but I can't see devout Chris Moyles fans liking Grimmy's style still but ah well!

Good luck to Coxy. The kind of person who fit in absolutely anywhere somehow, without having to bow down to management. :-)

Doesn't help that Grimshaw's show is an utter bag of wank, so I can't see how Moyles fans can move on. Sara Cox is probably at the best she's ever been at right now, which would be about right if Radio 1 get rid of her tomorrow knowing the moves they make sometimes.
