can't believe kissy is going, he hasn't been there long really and he's one of the few newer dj's i enjoy. as for jules his best time was 1998-2002, but i still enjoy his show. i understand the changes but sadly this proves i really am getting too old for radio 1 now, all they want to play is dubstep and cheesy david guetta dance but i'm not interested. yet im 23.

Tragic news. Was actually listening to Gilles Peterson's show from the early hours of this morning for the third time today when I happened to see he was trending on Twitter. Devastating news. Hopefully he'll find a home on BBC 6 Music or Jazz FM. His knowledge, passion and expertise in music cannot be replaced. He'll be sorely missed by his loyal, diverse and international audience.

Fabio & Grooverider leaving was expected, I suppose, when they were first shifted from the 1-3 Saturday night slot to some obscure slot on a Monday morning. Their show is still a really good listen but I guess D&B isn't as relevant as it once was, and they as DJs are no longer as relevant as they once were. Not to mention the bizarre fact that they rarely did the show together, it was more the Fabio OR Grooverider show with the two of them taking it in turns to do a show. Although on the rare occasion when they did a show together it was always great.

Getting rid of Kissy Sell Out seems a very odd move. I would have thought he was apart of the new generation of DJs the R1 management would want to be promoting to the more prominent specialist slots, as a potential successor to Jules or Pete Tong in fact. I'm sure he'll find his way to XFM, Kiss or some other station very soon, if not 6 Music.

Getting Skream and Benga in was inevitable I suppose after rotating them on the INMWT thingy. I'm a fan of both artists but they're not presenters, and their not radio DJs. Out-of-touch Radio 1 management trying to make a 'hip' move by dragging two funky producers from the charts into the schedule. It's not gonna work. Getting Toddla T in makes more sense though, he's alright.

Once again I'm a fan of Charlie Sloth but his overexposure on 1Xtra is excrutiating. The management obviously have a thing for him, it's odd how he came out of nowhere to replace Sarah Love on the 1Xtra Hip-Hop Mix Show and moreorless immediately starts covering Westwood on Drive. In the 48 hours of Fridays and Saturdays, in the 1Xtra schedule there is 9 hours of Charlie Sloth. A bit excessive. For him to do his live hiphop show, and then for the hiphop show from the previous week to be repeated in full immediately after, and then after a 3 hour gap for him to do the Saturday morning show is crazy. Not to mention when he covers Westwood that's another 3 hours on top of that on a Friday evening, the same when he covers for Semtex which is the show immediately before his regular hiphop one which he still continues with. Considering how loud, brash and in-you-face he is, even for big fans Charlie Sloth can only be taken in tiny small dosages.

Well, that's my two pennies worth..

Sort of sad to see Jules, Giles and Fab&Groove go, they seemed to have been there forever and belonged to the R1 schedule as long as I'm listening. Although I didn't ever really listen to their shows, so I'm not that affected. I am not really bothered by their replacements either, and I probably won't ever hear their voices...

The only one I am going to miss is Kissy. I found myself listening to his shows using Her Majesties iPlayer from time to time; the only night-time show i really ever listened to. I really like his style: positive, energetic, witty. I can see that the stuff he was playing isn't really progressive music, but it sounded just great. Shame he's leaving.

the one thing that did keep me going when the management started messing with the daytime schedule is the specialist shows. but they first had a "brilliant idea" when they trashed dance anthems, the replacement hardly got off the ground. the problem is now they are putting too much faith into dubstep which is just a phase. it's just another 4x4, 't2 heartbroken' era like 2007. it won't stand the test of time like house music has.

i can understand everyone has a run and everything comes to an end, but i'm left in limbo. i have no real reason to listen to radio 1 anymore because i'm not interested in a dubstep fuelled night, it's a fucking row. but i'm way too young for radio 2 at 23 years old. the music i like wouldn't fit in on radio 2 and they tried dance anthems with 6 music. that's the real sad part for me.

Been expecting the Jules and Gile P exit, and the F&G, for a while I guess. Specialist Dance hasnt seen a big shake up on R1 for a while - I think the biggest thing I can remember is Annie Mac coming in and that seems like years ago.

The most shocking thing here is the Kissy exit. His show is one of the few specialist shows I listen to, and I honestly think he is one of the ones more suited to R1 - and could even make a move into daytime cover if he wanted. This must have more to do with his decisions - was he not enjoying his show, does he want to focus more on live shows/his music?! Maybe they wanted him to move to a live Friday night show and that didnt suit him?!

Anyway, he will be a sad loss!

tong and kutski will be next, eventually radio 1 will fade out dance music and it will all be dubstep on a friday night. give it another 12 months.

Its weird that Kutski has moved off having his own show too. To be part of this residency rubbish. Which is basically another version of the Essential Mix, and INDJ'sWT

If they had kept a decent Thurs night schedule I would have been happy what ever they done on a Friday night, but they havent.

And they have messed all the other nights around too, making chnages that dont make sense. I mean on Monday you have a Rock show followed by a Hip Hop show, and on Tues you have a Punk Show followed by a asian Beats show. Why split the Rock & Punk up - they made sense. Mon was always about that kind of music. Tues was alway about new and world music, Weds was always for New Music, and Thurs about the dance and house music and those themes followed all the way from Zanes show.

The new schedule doesnt make sense.

another show what i really miss, and some of the older regulars on here will remember is the trophy twins' show. they wern't around on radio 1 long, but they played some fantastic house tracks.

radio 1 management seem to be in a single track mind with this dumbstep bollocks. trance has faded out with the new generation of clubbers and under 25's, unless you've seeked it out or have liked it since you were younger. but i know lots of people my age and under who love house and would of liked the trophy twins' show if they had been on long enough to of heard them.

and still to this day i can't understand the logic of abandoning dance anthems, it's been 4 years since it left sunday nights and does anyone even listen anymore once the chart show finishes? i couldn't even tell you what's there now.

Spot on there. I think the changes are to do with the simulcast with 1Xtra during the night, between 2 and 4am it seems.

I notice that Kissy is the only one who hasn't really commented on the announcement. Pissed off probably, i would be.

The massive let down is that dubstep will be everywhere. Well, maybe not in the Rock and Punk shows. But everywhere else. As if nothing else was going on in the world of music.

Also, I like how the Guardian put it: "desperately trying to keep up with the latest musical fashion, but always getting there a few years too late." Now that dubstep is everywhere (including the mainstream), why dedicate the whole specialist output to it?

i personally think it also lacks the creativity of trance and house before it, just because it's full of bass and tweaky noises it's good apparently. bollocks. there's too much music being made today in the dance scene, and it's harder than ever to find decent tracks. years back in pete tong & judge jules' prime producers had to spend money and press their tracks onto vinyl so dj's could mix the tracks. there were no mp3's or cdj's so they had to be sure it was their best effort, now producers just shove out any old crap. i mean look at david guetta and what he's become.

I doubt radio 1 axed kissy, he must of made the decision to leave. His show has only been on for 3 years but it was one of the most creative and influential specialist shows on radio 1. Apparently it was the only specialist show last year to constantly increase its listening figures.

As for skream and benga, they may be good club DJ's but not good radio DJ's. Toddla T is a good listen and is really diverse in what he plays.

I guess andy george and jaymo are staying on INDJWT rotation?

Thats another good point. These guys were building up a good following and actualy making onto cover mainstream shows. Which is what INDJWT shuld be about - i mean its hwere Toddla & kissy came from - so whats the point if they arent moving them onto bigger and better shows.

Radio 1 really needs to get over dubstep. I'm not sure who they're actually playing it for- only one of my friends actually likes (or liked) it, and that was only before it became "commercial". Besides which, I think music has moved on since 2009.

    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
    • I’m pleased for Mylo and Rosie, they were highly thought of in our local area and definitely worthy of that slot
    • I’m thinking the same redding and Leeds etc
    • -Considering how little Jamie has appeared since Vick went off on maternity, it probably would've been more sensible to have Sam & Danni taking over from that point and have him return with Katie. - Mylo and Rosie are apparently very good and one of the more popular local presenters who lost their slot when Hits went fully national. I gather they are very popular in Yorkshire. I can see them definitely see them popping up again beyond this stint. -Life Hacks cover is yet another good opportunity for some new voices (I know Yinka has popped up in the past). I have enjoyed Pete Allison covering though. I'm assuming most of August's Friday to Sunday 1-4pm will be made up of festival coverage.
