don't get me wrong, the reaction to this is way over the top from the do-gooders. clarkson is a twat but i'm sure he dosen't condone murder of innocent people. the issue here is that the media are throwing their weight behind the governent again. they get a hardline tory like clarkson on tv with a big mouth, to turn the section of the public who can't decide for themselves against the protesters. agree or disagree with them, they are standing up against the governmet and what they are doing to this country and the media don't like it. if the government get their way against people who stand up against them, it will turn more and more into a dictatorship and they will get away with what they please.

on the grid.

Basically, these striking people are guaranteed pensions at the end of their working lives. Why I am against the strikes, because at the end of the day, they are still gonna be better off than many people.

That said, £60.00 (just as an example of what a nurse I was speaking to will be paying) is a WHACK extra money to find in a month, especially if you have young kids as well.

Also: regarding teachers, apparently according to recent research only 3% of teaching staff make the grade when it comes to teaching standards. A number of teachers were also spotted on Twitter XMAS SHOPPING on Strike Day. Nice to see such great solidarity for colleagues and care for pupils. What is the point to them at all.:|

I kind of agree with cxx666: it's ok to have cuts, as long as they don't come your way!!

That said, these cuts are well out of hand now. Someone was saying on R2 the other week the Government would be better spreading the debt repaying over 100 years, rather than doing SO MUCH, SO FAST. I happen to agree. And the Government then wonder why nobody wants to race out shopping and spending?!?

It looks like the pensions stuff will be discussed on R4's "Any questions" this afternoon... Clarkson will be discussed as well after one pm today. Could be interesting !!

by the way, looks like Clarkson is only gonna be "spoken to" on his return from filming for Top Gear in China. The BBC were smart enough to get the apologies in fast then !!

BTW, from cm.net : someone's point of view !!

"We are paying this idiot's wages after all as a BBC employee. When 2 men posted an article on the internet in august telling people to join in the London riots they were jailed for several years. I don't see what the difference is between what they did and what Jeremy Clarkson has said. So I think he should at the very least be sacked and possibly charged with incitement to hatred. What do you all think?"

Last thing I'm gonna say on this one:

Feel free to think of Clarkson as an arse or whatever (while realising he's In-character, and that's probably what he WANTS you to think of the onscreen him), but at least get your facts straight when doing so.

Many people aren't, missing out things like the other side he presented and that the actual Joke he was making was more about parodying BBC idea of 'balance'.

Getting facts right is NOT really much to ask now, is it?

I've also had people tell me I'm an idiot for liking him... right I'm gonna go find some Amy Winehouse fans if THIS is acceptable behaviour... thought not. Yet it's OK for the people REACTING IN HORROR to what he said as a joke to seriously and Genuinely wish he was being shot? How does this make complainers any different from the person they're complaining about? Heads out of asses please.

People working in the public sector have to join a union, right? And if their union strikes, then they HAVE to strike. So it's hardly the fault people actually working in the public sector…

Ignorant view: I found the strikes great. Day off school and went to Southampton with my friends and had a well fun day. :)

OMASM. Radio presenters are like fruit. Matt is my kumquat and Scott is blatantly my orange.

Indeed, lest they be labelled Scabs and shunned into the darkness for all eternity... or something.

    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
    • I’m pleased for Mylo and Rosie, they were highly thought of in our local area and definitely worthy of that slot
