Astrologers angered by Stars...

Professor Brian Cox and Dara O'Briain have unleashed the wrath of Britain's astrologers with their comments about the ancient art on BBC2's "Stargazing Live" show, with the result that the Astrological Association of Great Britain have started a petition they plan to send to the BBC.

I love this article, it points out so many fails on the part of the AAGB and Astrology in general (in that it has little-to-no basis in actual science for a start). Think my favourite part is the statement from some 'top Astrologer' (top scam-artist?) "His justification was fragmentary astronomy and empty of logic.".. yes.. a hard science with provable facts is 'empty of logic' because those hard facts dispell any 'logic' in Astronomy...

Some of the comments at the bottom are great too, like "There are lot of nasty things said about rubbish. It smells bad, It looks bad, etc etc. But equating it with Astrology is just taking things to far. Rubbish can be useful. You can make stuff out of it, reclaim things from it, fill ruddy great holes with it. So I would ask the BBC and its presenters to stop maligning rubbish by constantly equating it, heck, identifying it with astrology. Stand up for rubbish now! So NO to this terrible slur against rubbish everywhere!" :hahaha:

Another thought on this is it's another thing where there's a campaign to get people who didn't even watch the 'offending' show to complain about it, yes it's Brand/Wossy all over again... pretty sad state of affairs to be in where something a person didn't even witness can offend them, and some people will watch something they know they won't like just to complain too.

Why do I have a feeling there's a VivRant coming on this topic?

I saw the 'offending' comments on the Stargazing show, and found them hilarious. Also, another popular cosmologist (Carl Sagan) wrote and presented a number of things debunking astrology (easily findable on youtube), along with comments on people slavishly following certain religious (ridiculous?) doctrines. The absence of demonstrable or provable fact really doesn't seem to matter to a lot of people.

Anyone for a little Creationism? I still can't believe it's being taught in some US schools...

I don't really have a problem with that being taught in US schools, except for the fact it's the ONLY thing being taught in said US schools. It has it's place in Religious Ed lessons, but not in Science lessons which is where the kids should learn the Big Bang stuff in addition, at least that way they can make up their own minds, right or wrong.

I had the same problem with RE lessons at my school that focussed purely on Christianity, since I have looked into other religions and found that a lot of the messages are the same, and more importantly that NONE in any way order the killings of 'non-believers' as the extremists in all religions would have us believe.
