Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe is taking over the Chris Moyles breakfast show for one week at the beginning of January.

It's part of a series of temporary changes that will see the daytime schedule handed over to the station's evening specialists.

Annie Mac will host Fearne Cotton's show (10am-12.45pm), Huw Stephens will sit in for Greg James (1-4pm) and Nick Grimshaw will replace Scott Mills (4-5.45pm and 6-7pm).

The changes will start on 3 January.

One of the highlights will be the announcement of the winner of the BBC Sound of 2011 poll.

The survey, compiled from the views of music critics and industry experts, aims to highlight some of the rising stars tipped for big things in the coming year.

New music

Zane Lowe will count down the top five most voted for acts through his week as breakfast host and will unveil the winner on Friday 7 January.

Ellie Goulding was the winner of the BBC Sound of 2010 with previous winners including Little Boots, Adele, Mika, Corinne Bailey Rae, The Bravery, Keane and 50 Cent.

Do you think he's going to try to do Chris' show features ? Don't think Chris appreciated it when Pete Tong took over the show!

I think they do the Nighttime DJ takeover regularly when it's a bank holiday, should be a good change...

When I read this headline on Newsbeat earlier I was actually "woah"!! And in my mind I was thinking that what an amazing replacemnt for Breakfast Zane would be and this would be great! If any one could replace Chris Zane certainly has the presence!

Then I read on and found out that it was for a whole week and tbh the news of Annie Mac, Huw Stephens and Nick Grimshaw on Daytime I didnt find that different as it sounds like a normal cover week - the kind of schedule line up that should have been on over the Christmas week. Although I do see this Line Up as probably a possible one for the future. Throw in Greg somewhere in there and thats Radio 1 for the next 3/4 years I hope post Scott & Chris.

Having said that what I am looking forward to is the music - it will be great to hear Grimmys show at drive time - I think he has really made the show his own and its a must listen, coupled with the music that Annie and Huw play - sounds like a fantastic week.

In fact when you think about we kind of are listening to the future. The future Music & bands of the next few years and possibly the future line up for the same period!

    • Not sure the obsession from Aled with celebrities. Between him and Danny Beard he's making some odd decisions.
    • Reference to Jordan having Katie’s coat (random), and potentially taking the old show box with him.
    • I'm curious - in what context did Vick and Katie mention Jordan? Was it r.e. Arielle's wedding?
    • Since Easter at the beginning of April, Vick, Katie and Jamie have been on together just 4 times. Which is crazy for a brand new, high profile Radio 1 show. Imagine Jordan being off that regularly on Capital because of ‘other commitments’ - would never happen.  Jamie has only presented 6 times in the past month. Katie has presented every single show. Given how she got the job at the last minute I think very likely she would have had other commitments, which she will have cancelled/rearranged, cos being Radio 1 drive time host is a massive gig.   Vick, Katie and Jamie - 4 times; Vick and Katie - 10 times; Katie and Jamie - 2 times; Katie and Lauren - 2 times.
    • I see Katie (and Mairead) were out with Jordan tonight.  I don’t listen to the show any longer, I am shocked they are allowed to mention Jordan.
    • At least I do not ask stupid questions…😂
    • I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣
    • A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.
    • Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.
    • Scott's show is on the road next week, live from Malmö in Sweden on Wednesday and Friday, ahead of Eurovision. As he's doing the semi final coverage on the TV on Tuesday and Thursday alongside Rylan, Gary Davies sits in for him on those days.
    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
