We had a "protest". It didn't really work the way they'd imagined.

At least you couldn't see me on TV. :D

Yeah, police attacking innocents (again.. seen that before) were just as bad as the idiots starting the trouble. SkyFox covered with bias of course, that Burley woman calling ALL protesters 'Insurgents' etc...

Confused as to what the attack on the Royal Car was about but from some of the coverage that's been given, you'd be forgiven for thinking they'd died in that ala Diana and Dodi, not that they were unharmed.

The attack on Charles and Camilla was pretty good in my opinion! Nothing too serious, didn't cause any harm while at the same time creating the hysteria and media coverage this cause needs.

Surely the Government, in particular Nick Clegg and the other Lib Dems, are getting the hint?

I just hope and pray that these protests/riots continue for the length of this parliament, for as long as this Government of out-of-touch millionaires administer this ruthless cuts.

on the student front, the only thing i didn't like was the setting fire to the xmas tree in Trafalgar square.

on the police front, well where to begin, pulling people out of wheelchairs, pulling a woman/girl out of the crowd one police person holding her down & another holding a truncheon across her neck, charging at people on horses, hitting people on the head with batons, etc etc..... police motto "to protect & serve (the public)" yeah right #fail

:)

You know, I do love your posts, Alan!! Thanx for making me just spit a mince pie out!!

The lack of police preparation was diabolical.... and, as for whoever protects Charles + Camilla, er... you gotta go!!

Pulling someone out of a wheelchair, and causing another person to wind up with brain damage is just shocking in the extreme..

Newsnights (Thursday) coverage of the protests and the vote was brilliant! Brilliant discussions, great interviews (although I was cringing at how biased Kirsty Wark was), fantastic reports. I loved the bit where they showed a group of kids skanking to dubstep and bashment in the crowd :D Who the hell brings speakers to play music at a protest rally?! :P Really proved that not all those involved were there to cause trouble and physical harm - and that goes for the police too. But the shot of a police man smashing a boy innocently passing by down on the ground with his truncheon and then hitting him again while he was crouched down in the fetal position pretty much sums up my thoughts of the police.

Guests on Radio 4 today on about their concerns about graduates leaving the country (which means they won't get their money back for universities), however how many ARE likely to get on a plane and do a runner. Only a certain percentage surely.

another person commenting that the Conservatives have chewed up Nick Clegg and spat him out. I'm inclined to agree.

and the guy being dragged out of a wheelchair, the protester who was played out on newsbeat who said he had got kicked, clubbed etc when he had done nothing wrong, and don't even get me started in the Ian Tomlinson case... all reasons my respect for Police in this country is ZERO, I can totally understand why people take the law into their own hands if this is the kind of idiots that are supposed to enforce it.

No it was pathetic. A mob of people attacking what is essentially 2 old people, and don't forget one has fought for this country for the freedom these idiots enjoy. I'm not saying it's all students but the small minority are making most working people not like them.

Nice to know my taxes that I pay are going towards cleaning up the mess that these tossers keep making.

    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
    • Some similar names to Big Weekend.  Sabrina Carpenter, David Guetta, Perrie, Bradley Simpson, Jax Jones, Caity Baser, Benson Boone, Rudimental. David Guetta is a good name.
    • Still Scott for me. I'm not too much into the 70s and 80s radio 2 play but do love the injection of 90s and 00s. Then Radio 2 push for all this country stuff and it not a UK thing, and I frankly don't like it. Scott's show as in features, hit and miss. I like the music police bit, but it feels like someone needs to join him. It's a shame Chappers is so busy with sports, as it feels like it could do with someone like him jumping on to help. Or a new partner. Radio 1, take or leave. Matt and Mollie are OK from what I've heard and share a good connection, but it's the playlist that throws me off. They could bring back Chris Moyles to do that show, but as soon as something like Headie One comes on with that casino keyboard produced crap. It would still be switched off from me.
    • Reading through this thread, I don't feel quite so alone now, in thinking that Scott Mills on R2 is not a good 'fit' (even less so than on R5).  I can't quite explain why this is so - I just know it to be so.
    • Arielle has been on holiday for the last 2 weeks getting married / honeymoon.  It'll be live from this week onwards.
    • CassKidd is in for Sian on Sunday 5th May.
    • The brought to tiers feature was also very good from them. I did wonder which DJ's were going to get picked out of the hat, that could have gone one way or the other and the caller said they were very opinionated lol. Correct decision putting katie in god tier!
    • The extended Dua Lipa track from M&M was very funny. I'm hoping Matt and Mollie and Scott have a good relationship a bit like Greg and Zoe collaborate on-air sometimes.
