BBC bosses have ordered stars to cut down on wardrobe costs by sorting out their own clothes and make-up.

Spoilt presenters like Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton have been told to get rid of behind-the-scenes staff.

It comes as BBC bosses battle to keep the precise salary details of their top-paid stars a secret.

Fearne, 28, told the Daily Star: “At work, I’d say 70% of the time I do my own make-up for TV shows now because of the recession.

“I end up doing everything myself on location. I’ve had my make-up done in the past for shoots so picked up tips. I didn’t really have a choice, I had to learn.”

At the launch of her new cosmetics range for Boots, Fearne said that it was increasingly common for formerly pampered celebrities to wear their own clothes to work.

Her comments came as pressure mounted for the Beeb to reveal the wages of their top-paid employees.

If we are to believe what The Times have reported about the BBC wages months back, Fearne's amongst the top radio earners; a bumper £200k deal since taking over Jo Whiley.

So I don't get why the Beeb would want to provide her with a makeup team and wardrobe set in the first place.

Lather, rinse, repeat.
