As some are probably already aware, the former drummer with the Stereophonics died earlier today. He was an integral part of the bands early success and was still very much involved in music, his new band even due to play at Download on Saturday.

RIP

kate lawler just played bartender & the theif on kerrang around 15 mins ago. some tracks are better than others for me, but still a shame to die at such a young age. they are dropping like flies this year.

rip

by the way. what was the deal between mark & lard and kelly jones? or the stereophonics in general. i should know, but i never can recall the story of why they didn't get along. mnl used to rip the piss out of them on air sometimes.

on the grid.

He was 40.

Thing is, Cable wasn't the best drummer in the world, he wasn't even close. But he did play on some of Stereophonics best early tracks, such as the 2 I've posted. For me, that is how he will be remembered.

In a story of how the mighty have fallen comes a report that former NY Knicks, Bulls, Raptors, and Rockets player, Charles Oakley was reportedly beaten down by a small Las Vegas casino’s security team sometime this past week. Some pics have been floating all over the internet via Twitter of the incident since a hostess from another casino was a first hand witness to the unfortunate event. No details are currently available as to why the assault took place. The takedown of one of the NBA’s most feared players apparently was pretty severe since “Oak” was taken to a local Vegas hospital and sustained a broken right arm and sprained neck, along with a few other minor bumps and bruises. Even at age 46, standing 6’9, and still in great shape, Oakley probably was a tough takedown for any of the casino’s rent-a-cops. As recently as 2007, Oakley hinted at a return to the NBA with either the Mavericks, Heat, or Cavaliers but decided to remain retired after no one wanted to offer more than the league minimum contract. Since his retirement he has made news for continually stating how “soft” today’s players are compared to players during his heyday in the late 80’s and early 90’s when he was one of the league’s elite level defenders, rebounders, and was revered for his physical style of play. More recently Oakley, as a close friend of Lebron James, chimed in on his free agency frenzy, and stated that the reigning league MVP won’t go to the NY Knicks. Oakley remains one of the more underrated players of his generation since he was a throwback of years past when players played the game as it was supposed to be played. After becoming one of the NBA’s greatest success stories coming out of the tiny Virginia Union University, Oakley developed a reputation of being one of the hardest working players in the league. While most top draft picks of his generation like Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins were high flyers, Oakley played below the rim using his high basketball IQ and an often over the top physical demeanor. Although he never won a rebounding title, he finished in the Top 10 in rebounding every season between ’87-’94 and finished his career with more than 12,000 rebounds. The legendary Michael Jordan, although he took a beating from “Oak” during the Bulls/Knicks playoff battles during the 90’s has stated on numerous occasions that Oakley is the smartest player with the basketball he has ever played with or against. The two have a close personal friendship even to this day. Hopefully Oakley is on the mend and will be given a job within his friend MJ’s new team, the Charlotte Bobcats, since judging by this incident, Oakley obviously has too much free time on his hands. I’d love to see what kind of shape the casino security guards are in after the fracas, since by reputation Oakley has been known to never go down without a fight.Kobe Bryant Jersey

First headline I saw this, the headline I saw that I clicked on just said Cable found dead, and kinda thought it meant Vince until I saw the picture next to it. Listened to Decade In The Sun on Monday night in tribute , now digging out my copy of Hurry Up And Wait (single) which had a version of I Wouldn't Believe Your Radio with Cable on vocals.

I actually have that playing now while Radio1 plays the crap new 3Lions.

Professional eater of puppy dogs, baby heads and killer of grannies...

    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
    • Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
    • James Cusack is in for Jack on Friday 14th June, doing the chart while Jack is at Download.
    • I remember hearing Amy first on Scotts show and she was great on that, the daft quiz questions always made me smile. It's really nice to see the hard work has paid off for them all.
