Scott with Westwood...

Oh god. Westwood makes me nervous... yesterday was bad enough with him talking about a baby in a bin bag and insulting people who may have to purchase items from charity shops but today his trip out with Scott is just as bad. I bet Scott wishes he was back running up and down sky scrapers in London. I think it's time Radio One retire Westwood or just leave him on One Xtra.

I have never liked Westwood, and all his "Yo baby" stuff. Too much for me somehow, and it always sounded fake for some reason.

I think I may be getting old though (ha ha)

I never realised you actually had to sniff the clothes if you worked in a Charity Shop (gross)..

Could do with less of the R1 sarcasm though about volunteering... it's OK when you've made it and are a big DJ (or whatever), but so many young listeners are still coming up the ranks, and need all the work experience they can get.

don't forget, if you're thinking of doing volunteer stuff (which does look good on a C.V.), then check out www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/

Loving the pic of Westwood in a Zorro/Robin mask on the R1 Homepage :P

and Viv, you're ancient so wouldn't get Westwood, :hahaha: (even though he's apparently old himself... Wiki says 52, surely that CAN'T be right? :s definitely doesn't look it) Parf Daddy wants to keep him on R1 for da kidz like booiiiiiii na na nai...

wouldn't it be easier to just wash everything? (which I thought they legally had to do anyway?)

I didn't realise it was a legal thing, but yeh, you would think they would wash everything. They must be relying on customers to wash stuff.

Charity shops are now over-priced anyway, because the amount they charge for "old" stuff is too much. You could get something new at a discount store for probably cheaper these days.

Shop beginning with the letter "P". Got a T-shirt out of there for £2.50 on Sunday for my running!!

Ahem, back on topic........ I think Westwood is OK in small doses. I like his 'Where Am I' on Moyles show. I believe hes over 50 though, so why is he still on R1 when the general concensus is that Moyles and Scott are pushing the barrier in their mid 30s?

True, you have Westwood at apparently 52, Moyles, even Fearne is 28 (though doesn't sound/look it either), don't know about any of the new talent such as Greg or Matt, but they do actually look younger.

There's not really anything wrong with having older DJs on Radio 1 though, I mean John Peel was popular right up until his tragic death at the age of 65, and in a way even beyond as 'his' show continued.

I think Greg's only in his 20s.

If they're "young at heart" (as I like to call it), why shouldn't they be on Radio 1, but it just seems double-faced that the BBC Trust wants the station to appeal to more and more younger people, whilst at the same time, employing much older DJs.... so I guess it's already out-of-sync.

I think that's why I have found listening to R1 quite difficult over the past year, because the focus is on pleasing the much younger listeners, rather than about the new music, or innovative DJs.

I wrote to the BBC Trust with my concerns, only to be told I may like to plan my listening around more "adult" hours - that really wasn't my point. :|

And Radio 2 feel too old........the debating stuff is good some days, but the music off of the 60s and 70s..... aaaaahhhh

It's not that he is 52 (and I am sure he must be that age. He has been on R1 for ever). I like "Where am I" as it shows him up to be the idiot he really is. I don't want to come across like some uptight idiot but his comments about charity shops seemed to defeat the whole point of what R1 are trying to do. Does no one brief him? Now, I may be making this up but I am sure Westwood's Dad is a Bishop...

Hey Viv 42 is not old at all... please do not like N Dubz though. They are so awful. They will end up stealing your car you know.

na na nai!! I like them!! Not sure why exactly but I do. Loving the latest single!!

This makes me totally "down", I feel ;)

And yes, "Where am I" does show him up to be a complete fool....

Some of R1's comments on Charity Shops are more than a little sarcastic, as I've said in a previous post.... how not to encourage the listeners to take up volunteering.

OK, so out in the real world, nothing is for nothing, but it does look good on a C.V. So maybe put a bit more of a sock in it, eh? !

I knew I was right! Westwood is sooo from da streets man!

"Bishop Bill" was known to millions through his Thought for the Day broadcasts on BBC Radio 4's Today programme. Westwood was a member of the Press Council (1975–81), the IBA Panel of Religious Advisers (1983-7), the Video Consultative Council (1985-9) and the Broadcasting Standards Council (1988–92).

His son is prominent British radio hip-hop DJ Tim Westwood.

Westwood freaks me out, ever since I talked to him when I phoned up and took part in Switch last December. He was the guest and we got to ask him questions about christmas presents or something. And also I heard his Saturday Night show once and he said the words, 'Ladies, put me on your to-do list.' Erm... he's 52. And sure, age is just a number and stuff but COME ON!! However, I do like him on the 5:19 show. He's good on that when he does appear....

I guess its different with specialist DJs as it's their knowledge, experience and musical output that matters. Fabio, Grooverider, Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Mary Nightingale, Rob Da Bank, Ras Kwame, Westwood, Gilles Peterson, Trevor Nelson, Ronnie Herel and even Nihal are all at least in their mid-late 30s/early 40s. As they're not necessarily chasing ratings and the 15-29 audience, I guess the management don't see their age as important as those who represent the stations mainstream image and are apart of R1's daytime schedule.

Admittedly, it is rather freaky LOL. All he seems to do is mention sex on his 1Xtra drivetime show. Each link is peppered with constant innuendos and sexual references. Cringeworthy at first but then you get use to it. He still makes me laugh though as he doesn't take himself too seriously at the best of times.

On a seperate note, did anyone see the adverts for the News of the World last week? What was that about?! :|

oh yeah the NOTW ads, for football stickers or something, weren't they?

Funny though.

Was Westwood doing the NOTW ads? Can you remeber he did the Halford ads for years.

By the way please do not even write "sex and Westwood" in the same post... god I have just read the words I have written and made myself sick.

...now I am thinking about a show called "Sex & The Westwood" Tim and his cringe worthy middle class Hip Hop friends talking about how much women love him... Does anyone from BBC3 read this forum? If so maybe I want royalties.

    • It's amazing how stable that slot has been over the past 20 years - 3 presenters only. By comparison, the previous 20 years seen 8 or 10 presenters depending how you measure it.  (Whether you treat Kevin and Zoe as separate to Zoe and whether you count Mark Goodier's 4 months on Breakfast as more than just cover).
    • On July 8th Greg will surpass Grimmy's tenure on Radio 1 breakfast (5 years, 319 days) as the second-longest breakfast show presenter. He has already passed Tony Blackburn and Sim Mayo. I'm not sure if he will make Moyles' record of 8 years, 253 days, but he certainly still seems fresh and full of ideas!
    • I guess we'll have to wait and see when the new schedule kicks in, although I could see Scott staying where he is.  Assuming that's the case and there are no other moves, there would be several available studios for Matt & Mollie - 82C or 82E of the 'old' studios, and 82M or 82N of the new ones.
    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
