When Scott and Chris announced their departure from R1, I remember there was lots of speculation about who would take over the 1pm slot. Matt and Mollie were talked about a lot on here, and at the time I really didn't rate them as a replacement.
A few years on, I see that I was totally wrong. They are such a good pairing, and it's the same kind of duo as Scott and Chris, in that they are real life friends, who spend time together in their real lives, which really does come across on air. True friends having a laugh together, and everyone is invited is how it feels to me now.
I never thought about it before, but I agree with @coffeeandgin that Mollie is the Scott of the duo - pop obsessed and maybe a litte ditsy, but so funny, and in need of someone to anchor to or bounce off.  It seems that Matt is the kind of Chris of the duo then in that comparison, the one with the ideas, but also needs another person to make the magic happen.
I know I'm outside of the R1 demographic, and maybe Dean and Vicky were meant to be younger and fresher, but I'm sure in my younger years I would have preferred to listen to two people who had a genuine connection and could really make each other laugh, as well as have the listeners laugh along. That was the Scott and Chris factor for me, and I think the only pair that come close to that now are Matt and Mollie.

Also hopefully won't get my head bitten off for this but I'd say of the current Radio 1 DJs the one arguably most similar to Scott Mills's latter time on Radio 1 would be Mollie. I'm not saying she's as good as Scott was to be clear but she is that sort of vibe.
'Future Pop' is exactly the sort of music Scott would be championing and you can tell Mollie has the same passion for it that Scott did. There's that Party Anthems link too - a show Matt & Mol do that previously Scott did and they bring a similar energy to how Scott did that makes it a fun listen.
Matt & Mollie seem to just have that natural connection with the listeners that Scott & Chris did that you can't manufacture.

I love Scott but if you're a 20 or 30 something that enjoyed his last few years of Radio 1 the Radio 2 show just doesn't translate. Stars from Neighbours or 90s singers just aren't my cup of tea and I can't get enthused about some has been at Radio 2 in the Park or some country music countdown. 
Until that changes I will probably more likely listen to Matt and Mollie. 
The Steve Wright fans think Radio 2 has turned into Radio 1 but it has a long way to go to win over the older R1 audience. 

It's got more of a Fri/ Sat feeling to it, for me. But there's nothing inherently wrong with the show.

Bruno Brookes was really good at that, yes .. and he needed to be, because he was up against David Jensen on Capital.

At risk of this being a massive 'Whoooooo?' for most people on here, mine was Bruno Brookes on the Top 40 in the late 80s. It was my first real experience of radio and he made the show incredibly exciting. This led me to seek out other shows on the station and I've been a listener ever since.

Ahh I hope this is right! Matt and Mollie have deserved afternoons for years - could almost feel like a (not quite so good) Scott afternoon show again!

I’d give Matt and Moll the Friday too and just have Dean & Vicky weekends (or ideally split them up)

Whisper it, folks, but ... Every time someone stands-in for Jack Saunders, the show has improved.
Credit where it's due - Every time JS has stood-in for Clara Amfo, that's also improved matters - but that's quite a low bar!

Got to be. I’d like to see there be a station that was any songs that has charted in the top 40 since 1952 on shuffle with no order or theme to what tracks are being played.

I've observed in various ways on here already how much more entertaining the stand-in-for-Jack shows are, compared to the actual-Jack shows ... And get shouted-down for it, every time.

Not to side-track from Annie, who achieved incredible things in her lifetime at Radio 1, and will be hugely missed and remembered for her amazing work and enthusiasm for life -
But, I had the joy of seeing David Rodigan live at a local gig in 2022 (much more my taste in music), and I couldn't believe the energy and passion he brought for an 'older' guy... it was such a wonderful experience. I can only imagine that Annie brought the same euphoria to fans of her style of music.
(I was hoping Greg or someone else on R1 would get Ram Jam involved in the "we need jungle" sideline of the last week)
It is lovely to see the tributes pouring in for Annie though, clearly a much-loved pioneering broadcaster who was, and stayed well respected on a so-called 'youth station', who held an important place on air as well as in everyones' hearts.
 

Age wise? Yes. Pete Tong has to be the longest serving DJ for Radio 1 now though.

Agreed. The target of a daytime show outside of London could have been met without the instant quality drop. It just doesn't seem to have improved that much over one year on unfortunately, whereas other shows and presenters have

The popularity of R1 Anthems/ Radio 1 00's among U-35's is mildly depressing, like they've already taken to saying, "Things were better in my day" ......

As the two of us agree - the days of an OTT serious chart are pretty much over given the time slot and true relevance of the chart now.

I know Jordan’s last chart appearance wasn’t appreciated by everyone.  But I think turning it into a more mainstream show and entertaining on a Friday afternoon is probably the direction to go given the chart really isn’t so relevant these days.
