How would you change the playlist?

Sorry! Mitch3LL will probably be mad when he shows up!! I guess I'm being a bit ignorant. Are the Foo-Fighters classed as "rock"? I hate them, I really, really do. The lead singer is supposed to be really nice in reality though. A guy I used to go to school with was their driver once, and the lead singer gave him a £50.00 TIP. A TIP!! Imagine!!

I would have the music Howard Stern plays all day.

Considering he doesn't play music anymore, that'd be one small playlist.

Which would suit Moyles pretty well, in fairness.

Thank GOD they are alienated. I hate rock, I really do. I know everyone has there own tastes, but SHOUTING from one end of a song to another does not appeal to moi!! Gimme Madonna & Britney any day!! :D

That's why I suggested investing in Alternative Rock. Yes, Foo Fighters are rock and yes, Grohl can be a bit shouty sometimes (which is what I like about it - gets the adrenaline pumping and is wonderful to sing/shout along to in a live environment), but there are also non-shouty bands too. I don't think the Counting Crows have a single shouty song in their catalogue, but I could be wrong. Shinedown have moments of shouting but their singer Brent also has an incredible voice that wouldn't be out of place on an X-Factor type show. 3 Doors Down walk the line too, but are a little more mellow and catchy enough to appeal a little more than a Theory Of A Deadman-esque band.

I never understand why Radio One won't give it more of a chance. They can't go to the well with Girls Aloud and Madonna all the time because a) they don't always have a successful or generally decent record (Madonna has had some proper sh*t out recently) and B) not all of their listeners are cookie-cutter 16-34 year old Justin Timberlake-loving Gatecrasher weekend party animals and variety never hurt anybody.

The adreneline pumping: The Foo Fighters make me downright NERVOUS and very, very frightened. Rock has to go. No wonder R1 won't give it a chance. They would lose half the bloody listeners, myself included.

Madonna's latest album hasn't been the finest, but R1 could pick up stuff from the past. They dredge The Chemical Bros.' Galvanise out every 2 minutes after all.

They do give it a chance, albeit small, which is a key reason as to why they're successful. They're not as close minded as other stations (Absolute aside, who at least used to be extremely diverse). I just selfishly don't think they give it enough of a chance but understand why that's the case. Though, if listeners are fickle enough to hear a rock song and leave the station completely, they should just go anyway and buy an iPod or listen to Generic 101.1 on another frequency. I moan about a lack of rock music but I haven't left the station because of it. I'm happy to let my pleas fall on deaf ears, and I like moaning anyway. Gives me motivation to get into the industry and make an actual difference.

My only concern is that if I were to say "give me rock or I'm gone", and bare in mind that I'm as much a listener as you are and that makes neither of us better than the other; we're both as important to the station, but I think they'd look down on me because I have long hair, wear skull-covered t-shirts and would listen to Nine Inch Nails over Ne-yo any day of the week. Which is a shame. Just because I'm not their "demograph" which is a crock of absolute shit on the best of days, they'd rather cater to you than me. Not a knock or an attack on you at all, so please don't take it as such; you just so conveniently happen to fall into what they want or expect their average listener to be. But that's another argument and I'm off on a tangent so I'll stop now before the Smile Brigade come along with their "oh stop whining and get a life" idiocy.

I was actually kidding about leaving altogether, as there is more than just the music to the station. I'd miss all the banter and the fun and mischief. If they ever wanted to bring more rock on, I guess it would be OK (there's always the off switch), as long as it's not too much of it. lol

That#s fine if you were, but I targetted it because I actually know people who have claimed with all seriousness that they would boycott something over a relatively small piece of the large overall puzzle, such as refusing to listen to a general playlist station playing even a smidgin of a certain genre of music amongst other things. So as light as you meant it, people do actually think that way sometimes.

    • It's amazing how stable that slot has been over the past 20 years - 3 presenters only. By comparison, the previous 20 years seen 8 or 10 presenters depending how you measure it.  (Whether you treat Kevin and Zoe as separate to Zoe and whether you count Mark Goodier's 4 months on Breakfast as more than just cover).
    • On July 8th Greg will surpass Grimmy's tenure on Radio 1 breakfast (5 years, 319 days) as the second-longest breakfast show presenter. He has already passed Tony Blackburn and Sim Mayo. I'm not sure if he will make Moyles' record of 8 years, 253 days, but he certainly still seems fresh and full of ideas!
    • I guess we'll have to wait and see when the new schedule kicks in, although I could see Scott staying where he is.  Assuming that's the case and there are no other moves, there would be several available studios for Matt & Mollie - 82C or 82E of the 'old' studios, and 82M or 82N of the new ones.
    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
