Is the People anymore crediable than NOTW ?

Well done to Radio 1 if they have signed her though. I've since changed my mind on the whole thing. Although it doesnt really give much hope to the Mikes and DCs of the radio world if they are aimming for Radio 1.

It seems Radio 1 are going for well known household names rather than true radio talent. Its not how it use to be and they should give more scope and although more transp. to allow all on to Radio 1, if only limited.

To be fair, you should never aim to work on Radio 1. They find you. Its the MI6 of the Radio world.

They still seem to be on about her in the People today -

TEEN party girl PEACHES GELDOF wants a presenting job on TV - and reckons she'll be better at it than WAG COLEEN McCLOUGHLIN.

Pals say the daughter of SIR BOB and the late Paula Yates is already being lined up for Big Bro's Big Mouth after she takes her A-levels.

And just last week we revealed how the 18-year-old has landed a coveted role on Radio 1 alongside ANNIE MAC.

Peaches said of WAYNE ROONEY'S girl Coleen: "I can't believe she has been offered a TV show... it's just because she dates a footballer."

Radio 1 are going in an odd direction with employment at the moment. Fearne Cotton, and now Peaches Geldof. They just seem very similar and aimed at one audience. It's always been Moyles, Mills and JK and Joel that people talk about at college and out and about. That's what I'd say Radio 1 is about. I've never bumped in to people saying "Did you hear Fearne and Reggie this morning" and I doubt I'll hear people say the same for Peaches. She's cute, but that doesn't work on the radio.

I think that's the answer, very male orientated at the moment really, do Edith & Jo really add anything to the schedule ?

I'll reserve judgement until I have heard her I think

...really, do Edith & Jo really add anything to the schedule ?...

Actually - yes! How can you say that?? Or was it ironic?

I think Peaches may know someone who knows a particular journalist, this works well on both sides, the journo gets an easy story and Peaches gets talked about.

And appearing to be a desirable property is always a good step towards getting more work, isn't it?

"Being a part of Trash Pussies has opened us up to so many new genres of music and artists we probably wouldn't have been interested in before, and its always fun to discover new things. We don't take ourselves seriously, we both have no intention of being 'djs' for a living, as we both have other jobs.

I don't understand why people jump to conclusions at something that is in every way productive. If someone hears a set and hears something new and enjoys it, that is an honourable thing.

We hope people come to gigs to enjoy music just as we play gigs to enjoy music.

We don't see djing as an 'art' or ambition, just as a way to have fun and play music we love and believe in"

According to the Daily Mail today (yeah, great for a source), it's not going ahead, as we expected. I think Kelly Osbourne was her replacement.

The newspaper column she began at the age of 15 has been quietly dropped, and claims from her circle that she is to become one of Radio 1's youngest ever DJs have been laughed off by the station.

In fact, insiders told the Mail that her semi-regular segment, talking about the concerts she has been to, on DJ Annie Mac's evening show is likely to be dropped when the station revises its format next month.

Word is that Peaches Geldof might be taking over the sunday 9-10pm slot starting in september, with Annie Mac moving full time as presenter of the Sunday Surgery. If this is the case will you welcome Peaches to the station?

Can I just point out that this post was originally in a thread of it sown .Moving it to this thread makes me look like a bit of a pillock since I had only just posted above it that the story of Peaches being hired was a load of rubbish, which in fact it eventually turned out to be of course.

yes because it would make sense you said it was rubbish then posted another thread about it being true? its chronological order.

dont worry you look a pillock without any moved threads....

    • Although a lot of their target audience do seem to be moving across to Instagram now.
    • I suppose it's because not a lot of people use Twitter (or X) so maybe it's not worth their time, surprised about Facebook though.
    • Surprised to learn Radio 2 and 6 Music are moving away from X and Facebook, I would have thought there's more appeal in Radio 1 doing that instead. Their target audiences still use Facebook, and it's still a key way to reach a good mix of audiences. Agree about X though, don't see any need for it. https://radiotoday.co.uk/2024/05/bbc-radio-2-and-6-music-quit-facebook-and-x-publishing/
    • Just wondering…has any DJ got the answer wrong yet? I’ve not heard one and they are pretty tough questions! 😆
    • On the weekends theme @Bluestraw said this in the chatbox but I was listening live to James cusack's show yesterday and agree it would be a travesty if he doesn't feature in the weekend plans. Both the greg james fb page and users on digital spy are saying similar. Imagine that, being both part of the LGBTQ+ community but able to appreciate good presenters in 2024.
    • Tara Kumar is in for Sian on Tuesday 4th June.
    • I think at least part of the problem is that a lot of Danny's act is based around Drag humour which (a) isn't for everybody (b) has to be so tamed down for daytime radio, it just becomes silly and (c) it is humour generally consumed on a night out with lots of alcohol taken!
    • Oh boy, if that's the case above then what are they trying to do at r1? If Danny was put into weekend afternoons that's one hell of a faux par and a big nail in the coffin. While ok, Nat and Vicky aren't about to blow the doors off and are only there as the fallout of d&v, but to then follow that up with Danny for 3 days a week. Come on. To go from a place where we had Katie followed by M&M to that. What happened to the prestigiousness of r1? Do they need reminding they've just lost Jordan? It's getting embarrassing. Like I said before, when I had people with 0 interest in radio whatsoever and it was in the background telling me to turn it off, you know it's bad. I saw a random friend from years ago even posting on fb with how has someone like Danny ended up on r1. Everywhere you turn its negative. Doesn't that multiply across the uk in what the r1 audience actually think of this presenter? I'm in the LGBTQ+ community and also r1 target audience but I don't feel I want to listen to this presenter because of that fact. Has some policy actually overtaken the true risk of driving audiences away? The fact is just how @coffeeandgin said, Danny has had chance since March with 2 shows a week and is still not up to the job. The odd podcast yes but certainly not to replace m&m! I've skipped through 10 minutes of this week to make sure I wasn't basing opinions on how it was before and yes it is the same level. When you had presenters like Scott who could keep it fresh despite how many years it had been, but then Danny sounds so out of date already, saying you could tune over to Rylan on r2... but then with a topic of "I want to know what have you missed out on?" I'm sorry?! What kind of local radio is that... it's meant to be radio 1 ffs. Terrible talking points, cringe, unfunny, and so bad on the radio it actually makes it jarring and makes people switch over.
    • I don’t think it will be September it will be a very messy schedule if that’s the case
    • As a member of the LGBTQ+ community my position is exactly yours on female representation.  Yes I want representation but only on merit.   Even if Radio 1 would like more representation from this sector, there are stacks of better options than Danny Beard.
    • I hope you're right! I remember some years ago hearing that the biggest show at a weekend was mid-mornings, but not sure if that's changed with the changing pattern of radio listening in general. Given the best show at the weekend (by a distance) is M&M, would make sense that's now the biggest slot.
    • Someone on here said recently weekend afternoons have a big audience. I think you'd want some of your biggest talent here. Which is why there was talk of a reshuffle. I couldn't personally see Danny in this slot if they decided to keep him.
    • I understand that representation is important. And I can't speak for the LGBTQ+ community. But, as a woman in my mid 30s, I have seen a massive shift towards 'having more women' in every industry/organisation in my lifetime. I have always felt that it should be on merit and capability to carry out a role effectively, rather than just filling a role as a specific gender. Women can be fantastic at everything, but on a personal level I would not want to be hired, for example, as a firefighter  just because I was the only female candidate. I am 5 foot nothing and could not carry you out of a burning building.
    • If they were going to do this, wouldn’t it make more sense to keep Danny at 10.30am and move Nat and Vicky to 1pm? I feel the idea of giving someone a job largely because of their sexuality isn’t particularly good either…
    • Right so prediction time. I think “Summer on Radio 1” which is on the schedule for Friday to Sunday 1-4 from June sticks around longer than the other changes in July. I think that lasts until September which is when we get the new weekend afternoon show. I think they’ll want to give Danny longer on air to see if they improve. I can’t see that happening, so my guess is in September they move Sam & Danni to weekend afternoons (at that point they’ll have been on weekend breakfast for a full year), and they bring James Cusack in to do weekend breakfast.
