Celebrity heiress Paris Hilton has been jailed for 45 days after being found guilty of violating her probation for a drink-driving conviction.

A Los Angeles judge ruled she must start her sentence on 5 June and has no prospect of an early release.

How can Paris Hilton get jailed for this, and yet Pete Doherty is still free to roam the streets with his track record in the UK?

Pete hasn't been endangering anyone (except himself). Roam the streets? He's a sad sensitive artist not a knife wielding psychopath! Also we try to help people recover in this country instead of imposing harsh punishments, which in my opinion aren't going to help anyone in the long run. I guess most people fall into one of two camps about this, the "make an example of them" camp and the "help them to get better" camp.

it isn't fair that time and money out of tax should be spent on him and he wont help himself. misunderstood? is he boat, he does things like squirt blood at the mtv cameras, and even his band members thought that was too far. just goes to show he dosent appreciate any help that is going towards him. he's had his chances.

well the law is the law for paris, but im afriad that the comparison is right between the laws, mabie pete should spend some time in new york with a low tolerance policy.

on the grid.

I'll believe it if I saw it. Kicking reports like Tulip from Radio 1's Newsbeat is hardly the best way to go around to get good press. I know the laws are different, but at least America is showing few celebrities are given special treatment.

Celebs are pressured a lot by the press, imagine how you'd feel if you were already having problems and annoying people kept following you around trying to ask provocative questions and get photos that make you look bad.

Celebs do usually get special treatment in the US though don't they, because they have money for top lawyers. Michael Jackson and OJ Simpson got away with it.

im gutted for her, she is going to be put in a cell with [in the nicest way possible] a vicious probably money grabbing criminal. Shes going to get forced into paying protection money to just about everyone.

Hahahahahahaha! Wonder how the pampered princess'll cope?

She'll make loads of notes, keep a diary then release it as a book when she comes out and make yet another small fortune!!

Good to see her being made an example of even tho quite like her, wonder if Jo Public would have just got 45 days tho?

She Broke the law, yes but it was for driving with a suspended license its hardly murder. 45 days for that is shocking, if she wasn't one of the most famous people on the planet she would be heading for jail.

Yeah, but her licence was suspended for drunk driving in the first place, which does put other peoples lives in danger.

It's not like she can't afford to take a taxi/chauffeur/ helicopter/private jet etc. instead!

D'you think they'd have to keep her in solitary confinement?

American actor Stacey Keach got put in Reading Gaol for drug offences, apparently he got on well with the other inmates who thought he was a good bloke.

However, having seen The Simple Life, it seems unlikely that Paris has it in her to get on well with the inmates of a ladies correctional facility

She'll probably be placed in solitary cofinement in a cell similar to a deluxe suite in one of daddy's famous hotels. Fruit basket, champagne anyone? Scott will get TONNES of Prisoner Cellblock H mileage out of this state of affairs!

Agree with you about Pete, he's a sensitive, self-destructive amazing poet. I feel sorry for him, and his inability to sort himself out (at the moment). There but for the grace of God go I...

    • https://youtu.be/A_Cycjg5_9A?si=NiLTFeiTNWBExFoR   As barmy as Sam Ryder has now gone, as shown in this video. I'd still rather it than that bland Olly Alexander record.
    • I like Scott, and I listen to Rylan's show every week... they do sound great together on Eurovision etc but.. as for a daily show together, I don't think it would work. Rylan would probably have to reign it in a bit which would lose his appeal, otherwise it may become too chaotic, in my opinion. That Saturday slot is perfect for Rylan, his rapport with Sally Traffic and Lottie is great. I suppose it comes down to cost as well and if he would want a daily show?   Radio 2 are clearly happy with Scott's show, and considering he's just won Best Entertainment Show at the ARIA's, I can't see them changing much.
    • A win for Scott which is fantastic after the last few years he's been through!
    • Am I outnumbered for not wanting to work in radio? It feels like there's a lot of geeks that want a job in the industry here.
    • Thought Sam and Danni were robbed of an award.
    • OJ Borg is in for Trevor Nelson on the Rhythm Nation tonight (with Phill Williams on overnight). He's also in for Michael Ball for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th May). Ros Atkins (BBC's Analysis editior) is in for Jeremy Vine on Thursday. Another new name to Radio 2 is Oliver Hides from BBC Radio Wales. He sat in for Owain Wynn Evans yesterday and he's in again this Thursday (9th May) and Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Spoony in for Scott Mills from Tuesday 28th till Friday 31st May.
    • Thought they would make it easier to get to this event. There's been no communication from the council or organisers about travel, even though there's talk of train strikes. Smaller councils have done a better job.
    • They do sound good together, but I'm not sure Rylan will want the extra commitments.
    • I have accepted Chris is unlikely to join Scott's show, and that Chappers has moved on, but I still think he could do with a co-host. The most logical solution, I think, is Rylan. He appears more often on his show than not, and they are great together. Radio 2 could lose Rylan's Saturday show and extend his reach by appearing during the week. I think they'd be great!
    • Tattoo took a while to grow on me. I couldn't see the fuss until weeks after. We have a split household here where the war on Gaza is overshadowing an enjoyment. I'm hoping for a protest of some sort.
    • I've heard that the staging is very impressive.  That and him being "known" might prevent an embarrassing result.  I'm a terrible judge of Eurovision though as Tattoo is still so very meh to me.
    • Feels like after the success of Sam Ryder we are going back to our old ways. Olly Alexander's song is pretty weak. Anyone fancy our chances this year?
    • The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.
