Seems a light downturn on Radio 1’s figures a small dip but something bit of bouncy scatty reliable outcomes for the station but seems to be holding on steady.

Scott starting at Radio 2 with over 6 million listeners is a great start for him and shows how early doors how he has been able to emerge strong with the media and social media criticism don’t think things in the immediate next year will be as bad for Radio 2.

Seems that Greatest Hits is continuing on the up almost at 4 million when comes after the next two quarters it could grow quite largely. What it could achieve over the next two years and how it laments itself as an established name will be interesting to watch the growth. Wonder how Bauer will inevitably with its growth to consider how to position Absolute to Greatest Hits could Absolute 80’s come become Greatest Hits 80’s making an obvious fit for the brand. Think Cooper maybe playing a more successful long game at Bauer than had with Radio 1. For future industrial growth Bauer assume will grow faster than the BBC and Global and that could come from rapid growth in revenue and listenership. As a senior content director at Bauer think Cooper is in much stronger position in making growing radio network. But has concerns in putting all of its eggs in one basket.

Interesting looking at the youth stations Capital Xtra is double that of Radio 1 Xtra something assume Bauer will be proud to boast. Capital Dance is around 912,000 listener. Easy to imagine it reaching the 1 million threshold soon in the next quarter and holding on to steady growth by year end. Radio 1 seems to with its slight dip with adults done the thing of shedding some to get more younger listeners with growth of 15-24 bracket which in the past has been difficult to do new shows for Vick and Dean and focus of bringing on younger talent has probably helped and hopefully that radio 1 is brave to continue to do things to mix things up for growing that bracket and ensure that 15-24 remains its core listener share

Interesting, I've missed the figures about Scott, but it sounds like he's more than compensating for those listeners who have jumped ship. If anything he must have more of an audience now than at Radio 1?

I don't think the BBC will need to give much spin to the overall figures - both stations are clinging on to listeners at a time of changing listener habits - including the death of the Queen and the World Cup.

It’s still early days for Scott’s move to replace Steve Wright. Looking at the R2 numbers for Steve's slot (2pm to 5pm) there’s a month of deps (Steve left at the end of Sept) and then two months of Scott in Q4 data (though doing two hours rather than three). There’s been no particular cratering to the slot, he’s very marginally down to 7,118k (vs 7,286 q-on-q and 7,443 y-on-y). But probably holding up better than the station as a whole, where R2’s reach figure is now 14,286k (vs 14,461 and year-on-year 14,865). Looking at Scott’s 2-hour time-slot, the results are similar.

Also, again it’s early, but Scott’s appearance on Radio 2 between 2pm and 4pm hasn’t really affected Radio 1 - where you would expect some side-switching to follow him. R1’s reach for that slot is now 2,659k vs last quarter’s 2,686k. The real test will come from looking at a year’s worth of quarters - but no instant crumbling so far.

Which gives us some fascinating insight. Basically Scott has sat around 2.6m on Radio 1 Afternoons and that figure has only dipped ever so slightly in the first quarter without him. Whereas, Radio 2 Afternoons sit around 7.3m and again, his arrival/Steve's departure has had little impact.

I think that it is good that the stats don’t reflect the period of mourning as it may have been a turnoff of services of traditional television and radio for listeners. But the World Cup has helped Radio 5 Live in the winter seasons with coverage Truss resigning and Rishi Sunak becoming prime minister.

They have said a bit from the press statements and briefings and its a modest one but something that has worked rather well rather steady and stable.

Think that what Scott Mills realises with the journey to do so hope the figures for his show remains strong and steady amidst new competition continually emerging through coming months and years. A weaker one for Scala Radio, GB News and not any major moves for LBC, Talk Radio and Times Radio. Settles concerns and leaves the stations 5 Live, Radio 3, Radio 4 more relaxed now.

The Post Bruce Quarter sure will show that Radio 2 has future without him and is not at deaths door and will survive ,
