How much do you listen to Radio 1?

I thought this would be really interesting to see.  How much do you listen to Radio 1 on a daily basis?  How does it fit into your daily routine? Does anyone listen through the day every/most days?  I really look forward to finding out.  Let’s see who listens the most.

I used to listen much more, but the lack of daily routine you have as a student isn't conducive to regular listening.

I never miss a Mills podcast, and on top of that his show is the one I most often listen to live as well. Greg I hear a bit of as well, although I alternate between him and Capital Yorkshire so don't listen every day. Clara I hear a fair bit of but again, not every day and Grimmy I listen to depending on what else I'm doing. At the weekends I usually catch Matt and Molly in their last hour, then most of Maya/Jordan and a bit of Dev and Alice too. So basically I don't listen that much at the moment except for Scott - which I didn't quite realise until I wrote this post. I used to listen much more - breakfast and drive every day when I was at school.

Yeah, Capital Yorkshire is really funny in the mornings sometimes.  I always find Greg a bit bland in the mornings, (he was amazing on drive) but still listen most mornings, same for Matt and Mollie, from whenever I wake up (around 8am).  Scott I hear a lot live, never a dull moment during that show, Clara too, but I swap over to Will Manning sometimes, because Clara gets a bit boring.  Grimmy I hear a fair amount, even though that show isn’t the best, it’s gotta be a temporary thing, bring on Jordan North drivetime!  I listen to Annie, Dev and Jack a bit in the evenings sometimes, depending on what I’m doing.  Weekends, Dev and Alice I seem to catch a lot,  Jordan too, and Maya, but I can’t believe she’s got such a prominent slot over people like Jordan and Matt.

Up in the West Midlands we get a local station called Free Radio the breakfast show on there is brill so sometimes listen to that sometimes Greg maybe Moyles.

Call me sad as its 2019, But I actually still own a radio So virtually it’s on when I’m home if I’m not on here or listening to old radio shows or random shows. I used to listen to the 8th with Sloth than Dev but that bores me now it’s so awkward it’s not funny anymore. It’s not Dev he just doesn’t suit the format. So I’ve been listening to random stations off DAB like Kisstory or Virgin Anthems(New)

I used to catch drive but don’t listen anymore now Grimmys there. Sometimes catch it in the car but only sometimes. Last time I heard him he had his reporter Sinead at the NTAS so about 3/4 Weeks ago now. Normally dip in and out to Mistajam on a sat.  If I’m not busy that’s is

If im awake(It’s the weekend lol, Who wants to get up early?) might catch an hour of Matt and Mollie. Sometimes I put Maya on as background noice.

Cant stand the rock show don’t mind Pete or Tiffany if I’m in bed tired so on Sunday normally I flick over to Kissstory.

Im at work most days so miss Clara ,Scott. But listen to the podcasts for Mills.  Rarely listen on a weekend apart from Matt And Mollie sometimes other shows in the car.

When Ricky Melvin and Charlie finally arrive I’ll give them a listen and if they got Rid of the rock show I will listen to more R1 at night.

I suppose they need the rock show for those fans, and it’s on a very off peak slot. Dev on The 8th, I go back and forth with, it’s not great, but it’s nice having him on weekdays, to be honest I’d have preferred him to get drive for an interim period rather than Grimshaw.

    • I see Katie (and Mairead) were out with Jordan tonight.  I don’t listen to the show any longer, I am shocked they are allowed to mention Jordan.
    • At least I do not ask stupid questions…😂
    • I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣
    • A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.
    • Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.
    • Scott's show is on the road next week, live from Malmö in Sweden on Wednesday and Friday, ahead of Eurovision. As he's doing the semi final coverage on the TV on Tuesday and Thursday alongside Rylan, Gary Davies sits in for him on those days.
    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
