Thank you for contacting us regarding Radio 1's 'Newsbeat'.

I understand that as a regular listener to Radio 1 you've become increasingly concerned about the quality of broadcasting recently, as you believe a number of presenters are having trouble timing their records to end before the news starts.

Although I fully recognise your concerns, the issue of playing songs before the scheduled news programmes is not a new issue. All radio stations whether the BBC or commercial have to ensure that they time their broadcasts to include news bulletins, however, I do recognise that you recently, Radio 1 has been experiencing difficulties in getting their timings right and that certain songs have been cut to accommodate the news.

Again, I understand that this is an issue which has caused you some annoyance and to that end I’d like to assure you that we've registered your comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback we compile daily for all programme makers, commissioning executives, and senior management within the BBC. The audience logs are important documents that can help shape future decisions and ensures that your points, along with other comments we receive, are also made available to BBC staff across the Corporation.

Thanks again for sharing your views with us.

Kind Regards

Richard Carey
