Cooper Feeds Back About Radio 1 !!

A lad I follow on Twitter @oliverdean21 has been exclusively down to Radio 1 to meet actual BEN COOPER. He has been to grill him about all things Radio 1, including changes us listeners would like... !!

This programme is called "Feedback with Roger Bolton", and will be broadcast on Radio 4, this Friday, June 22nd 2012, at 4:30 p.m.

Think this could be well interesting !! Really, really interesting !! I am wondering just how he will come across, and how willing he would be to actually take on board some of the listeners' comments/ideas for the future.

Don't miss this !! :hahaha:

This was good towards the end. One of the younger listeners did not like presenters like fearne cotton coming in, as she felt she could not relate to tv personalities winding up on the radio. also, ben cooper said mills was a brilliant broadcaster but he felt james was for the younger generation. he would not be drawn on moyles future.

I thought Cooper was a bit pathetic tbh

They asked him about Mills and James he said he thinks James 'represents the younger generation' and Scott's funny features and stories are best suited to afternoon.

1. So what does he want from Drive stories which are not funny, if so James is a good choice

2. The reason why they moved is because he thinks Mills is too old why not say that rather than the exscuse he thinks he is better on afternoons

3. The assumption that James is for a 'younger generation' as he is younger baffles me. If you listen to Scott's show with features like Innuendo Bingo you realise his show is more silly, immature and young than Greg's

I thought he was patronising saying something like "Mills had built up his career on the funny stuff and innuendos" (something like that). It was like he was saying that was ALL he had, and nothing new to offer?!

Oliver Dean tells me it was VERY HEAVILY edited. I think that came across really. I felt Roger Bolton was quite cheeky with Cooper at one point, but he STILL could not get any real information out of him.

What came across was listeners will always prefer DJs who come in via Student Radio, or are very talented, compared with "celeb" types, like Fearne, who are too far away from their own lifestyles.

Would NOT be surprised if there was something else entirely behind all this.

Yup. Cynical, but I agree. The presenter even seemed to emphasise Moyles' age at one point, saying Moyles at THIRTY EIGHT. Every where you turn, Moyles seems to have a different age !! :hahaha:

www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/ - go to Feedback - it's still there for another 6 days.

BTW, that makes Chris the SAME AGE as Scott. *ahem*

No one of my age I knows really cares how old presenters and DJ's are, its just about what theyre like. For example I dont care that Westwood is 50-odd I just dont like him cos I find him annoying and the way he speaks annoying.

Although since Britain Unzipped Greg has earned himself a lot of new teenage girl fans which may help with his ratings (probably wont though. I know very few who still voluntarily listen to radio)

And I won't sit down,

And I won't shut up,

But most of all I will not grow up <3

I have never liked westwood either. Drove me mad on r1. dunno about radio popularity going down. jeremy vine had a bit on his twitter about radio remaining popular because everything is FRESH. you listen to songs on your ipod, well, you put them there. whereas radio is choosing stuff for you, and you can randomly hear stuff you have not heard before.

    • On July 8th Greg will surpass Grimmy's tenure on Radio 1 breakfast (5 years, 319 days) as the second-longest breakfast show presenter. He has already passed Tony Blackburn and Sim Mayo. I'm not sure if he will make Moyles' record of 8 years, 253 days, but he certainly still seems fresh and full of ideas!
    • I guess we'll have to wait and see when the new schedule kicks in, although I could see Scott staying where he is.  Assuming that's the case and there are no other moves, there would be several available studios for Matt & Mollie - 82C or 82E of the 'old' studios, and 82M or 82N of the new ones.
    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
    • Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
