Last night's R1 stuff was outstanding.... I noticed the first of the programme's had actually been written by Moyles!! Fascinating to go through the different time periods. I understand more now how R1 became involved with the Ibiza stuff, etc.

Get Mike Smith: how he has AGED. OMG. OMG.

10/10

Its was good. I very much enjoyed the Moyles documentary and the Smashy and Nicey documentary was hilarious. First broadcast in 1994 apparently. I wasn't sure about the other stuff though. It wasn't as if BBC 2 put much effort into it. They showed a 23 year old Wogan show which was average at best - though nice to see John Peel. And the Radio 1 story was very outdated. They over-dramatised the Blood On The Carpet show. Almost as if they wanted to hammer home a subject we already know about.

I enjoyed the drama.... Didn't see that much of it though, because it was already past my bedtime. Boo :-(

Oh, BTW, one comment I do have to make is: I liked the rule of the past about DJs not being able to name-drop, etc., etc., and wish this applied to today's (2010) radio.... sometimes when I see all the name-dropping on twitter, it reads as incredibly fake, and is extremely annoying.

Just a small point.

Mike Smith actually had a near fatal Hammond style helicopter crash a few years back, and I noticed that after that he really seemed to age, and change, as has Hammond imo. Inevitable after a near death experience I suppose.

We only watched the first two documentaries. Found them really interesting. I was impressed to see that Moyles wrote his programme. Will catch up on the rest tonight.

Yep, that majorily impressed me that Moyles wrote it himself. Fantastico.

I didn't actually know that Mike Smith had been in such a bad helicopter crash

:-(

I thought it an interesting change of career too: I mean, to go from R1 to helicopters.

Mike also clearly didn't approve of Moyles' presenting style, because he often talks to a group around him and to himself, rather than engaging with the audience. I would tend to agree with this: more listener interactivity would be good.

nice to see Mike Read again and the old R1 roadshows. I remember winding up at one of those (from a distance) purely by accident in Wales a long time ago. Went there with my Welsh ex-fiance (bastard), and R1 were on the road that day!!

To see them all ageing made me kind of think what Scott, Moyles, Coxy, etc. will look like 10 years from now. Will they hold up well, or look like ageing decrepit statues.

Well doesn't Moyles already have greys etc?

I wonder if ageing is why Scott no longer seems to be orange (at least he didn't look it on the Family Guy Top 20 Characters thing that was on over the weekend), fake tan would show up the wrinkles too much?

Well, yes, but his face is still relatively youthful, and he's lost a lot of weight, which has done wonders, I think, for his appearance.

I think Scott has BOTOX (whispers this), so wrinkles are dubious (for the moment anyway).

BTW, I was reading in one of my women's magazines yesterday that if Jordan has any more botox, her entire face is gonna collapse.

How scary is that. :-)

Chris Moyles proved he should stick to radio after his documentary on Radio 1 DJ’s performed poorly for BBC2 last night.

When Moyles Met the Radio 1 Breakfast DJs, which formed part of a night devoted to BBC radio, was watched by an average audience of 1.72m (7%) across the 9pm hour last night. This was nearly 700,000 viewers below the slot average of 2.4m (9.17%), according to figures from Attentional.

    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
    • Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
    • James Cusack is in for Jack on Friday 14th June, doing the chart while Jack is at Download.
    • I remember hearing Amy first on Scotts show and she was great on that, the daft quiz questions always made me smile. It's really nice to see the hard work has paid off for them all.
