The May bank holidays will feature two award-winning students as part of the Radio 1 schedule.

Julie Ann Lough and Fergus Dufton will get a show each between 4am and 7am after winning Best Female and Best Male at the Student Radio Awards last year.

Julie Ann is first up on Monday 3rd May and Fergus does his show on the 31st May after winning in November's ceremony, which is now into it's 15th year of celebrating the best in student radio talent.

Previous winners who have gone on to great success in the professional industry include Greg James (BBC Radio 1), Mark Crossley (Absolute Radio), Marsha Shandur (XFM) and Kevin Hughes (95.8 Capital FM).

Without even having listened to her Julie Ann could be the next presenter of that slot, Radio 1 are desperate for young/new female talent. They seem to deem Jo Whiley and Sara Cox too old and they don't have any one else except; Fearne who isn't great and Annie Mac who's a touring DJ. Not that there's anything wrong with a male dominated schedule, of course.

Next year I enter the wonderful world of student radio. I cannot wait. It would be an absolute dream for this to be me in either one two or three years time. Best of luck to the guys and hope they enjoy every second.

Same here! :) Best of luck to them, and to you Chris!

Heard the last hour or so this morning of Julie Ann. She didnt talk much just played loads of songs

I haven't had a chance to listen yet, but after looking at her winner's page on the Student Radio Awards site it looks as if the show she did on her uni's station was a Surgery type show, so maybe she's best suited for sort of show. http://www.studentradioawards.co.uk/winners/71799924636d

The other winner, Fergus Dufton, sounds really good! He could be one to watch out for. I think his Radio 1 show is on the 31st May. http://www.studentradioawards.co.uk/winners/717929b03e85

    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
    • Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
    • James Cusack is in for Jack on Friday 14th June, doing the chart while Jack is at Download.
    • I remember hearing Amy first on Scotts show and she was great on that, the daft quiz questions always made me smile. It's really nice to see the hard work has paid off for them all.
