The ticketing situation was stupid imo, i'm one of the people who lives around Mote Park and thus will have my weekend disrupted and yet no tickets! And the same with my neighbours and the majority of people in my road! If you're going to inconvenience us for two days radio 1, at least let us in on the party!

However i'm very lucky in that i have a good friend who is giving me his plus 1 for saturday! :D

Great I didn't get tickets and figured that if my mate got them (he's far more likey as he lives in the cathcment area) that he'd be taking his missus. I've made other arrangements for the weekend and now I find out that his missus is WORKING at the Big weekend. So she get's in anyway and he's offered me his other ticket if he gets it....bloody great!

Hi, ive just got tickets - for Sunday - does anyone know if we are allowed to swop with other lucky peeps.

It's possible. But you'll need some sort of ID.

Well my mate didn't get tickets either but he has got an invite to see the Zipper on Friday so that's not so bad.....wonder if he did a voiceover session for them?

Where did you read that? I don't believe it. There's always a bunch of bitter people making conspiracy theories up.

Was searching on the internet and found this so I just wanted to say that whilst I know very few people who got any tickets at all and none within Maidstone, we are not all tards trying to ruin people's fun. I myself won't be attempting to block roads or start fires.

The problem is that the local bandwagon press built the event up so much, people felt that they were guaranteed tickets, which, regardless of botched allocation which may or may not have happened, they were always going to be disappointed.

Yes, I applied, and no I recieved no tickets and I know very few that did at all and none within Maidstone. So whilst I'm not trying to sound moany, please don't condemn the people of Maidstone as bitter old people crying over spilt milk.

Interestingly, last year's Tour de France that came through here was very well recieved despite HUGE road closures and to be fair, that was a massive disappointment (again, the 'Kent "What can we latch onto next?" Messenger' was probably to blame for making us expect something other than a bunch of guys on bikes).

So please don't think we're all bitter. I myself will probably watch it at home (if I can't hear it from my house) with a few mates around. So if you're coming to the good old 'Stone, enjoy the event and buy lots of expensive stuff...

Maidstonian without tickets

This is quoted from another thread to actually say people in Maidstone did get tickets:

Radio 1 has supplied details of the number of tickets allocated to postcodes in and around Maidstone for the upcoming Big Weekend.

The BBC responded to angry claims by scores of disgruntled Maidstone residents who failed to get free tickets to the two-day music extravaganza at Mote Park and claimed the allocation had been wrongly weighted to favour ME postcodes in Medway.

A BBC spokesman said: "It is not true that Radio 1 mistakenly assumed ME1 and ME2 were central Maidstone postcodes. Neither postcode was in the central zone for allocation.

"The highest number of tickets given to any one postcode was 3,042 to ME15, followed by 2,298 to ME 14 and 1,710 to ME16, a total of 7,050 tickets.

A total of 45 per cent - around 15,300 - of the free tickets went to those with postcodes covered by Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) itself, according to the BBC. The other tickets were split between the other Maidstone postcodes.

The council's revenues department supplied a list of postcodes the authority covered to ensure all those paying council tax in the Maidstone area had the greatest chance of obtaining a ticket.

The main postcodes given were ME14, ME15, ME16 and ME 17. A number of ME5, ME9, ME18, TN12 and TN27 postcodes also fall under Maidstone borough council, as well a few in ME4, ME7, ME13, ME19, ME20, TN9, TN15 and TN17.

The spokesman added: "Everyone in this zone had the same chance of being allocated a ticket - around one in 16 on Saturday and one in nine on Sunday."

Outside of the central MBC zone, another 40 per cent of the tickets went to the surrounding areas of Kent, including:

~ 3,868 to other Medway postcodes not covered above;

~ 4,006 to all other Tunbridge Wells postcodes not covered above (including some to those in parts of East Sussex);

~ 1,568 to Dartford postcodes;

~ 466 to those with Bromley postcodes;

~ 172 to those with Croydon postcodes.

Finally, 10 per cent went to postcodes bordering Kent, including parts of Sussex, Surrey, Essex and London, and the remaining five per cent went to other areas in the UK.

The BBC spokesman reiterated that 34,000 tickets were given away for the Big Weekend, but that more than 518,000 people around the UK had registered.

There are about 75000 people in maidstone according to the last census, which means roughly, 20% of the population of Maidstone got tickets, not bad if you ask me

Nah honestly... I said that with the view and hope that I would get tickets. If I didnt get tickets, I would have had to withdraw the promise to take photos hehe :P

I actually had a ticket for sunday, which essentially was just a normal ticket.Did Jono get a press ticket? If so that wouldnt have been affected by me getting a ticket. At the end of the day, everyone had a good day/weekend so it doesn't matter who got tickets.

Before the weekend, Chris and I, hadn't spoken to each other before. However I appear to have featured in one of his photos in the guest area sat at a bench. What are the chances of that?! haha.

    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
    • I’m pleased for Mylo and Rosie, they were highly thought of in our local area and definitely worthy of that slot
    • I’m thinking the same redding and Leeds etc
    • -Considering how little Jamie has appeared since Vick went off on maternity, it probably would've been more sensible to have Sam & Danni taking over from that point and have him return with Katie. - Mylo and Rosie are apparently very good and one of the more popular local presenters who lost their slot when Hits went fully national. I gather they are very popular in Yorkshire. I can see them definitely see them popping up again beyond this stint. -Life Hacks cover is yet another good opportunity for some new voices (I know Yinka has popped up in the past). I have enjoyed Pete Allison covering though. I'm assuming most of August's Friday to Sunday 1-4pm will be made up of festival coverage.
