Radio 1 could go further nurturing new talent

Recommended Posts

So I love the idea for early breakfast on Fridays nurturing new talent when it comes to presenters. But I think Radio 1 could go further.

You need a safe pair of hands in charge of the shows, but that doesn't mean it can't use it as an opportunity to nurture new talent in other ways.

For example you could trial assistants in production, newsreaders, even social media and digital producers (cough, cough) to work with the programmes. Equally this could apply to the Christmas shows, for instance.

There are so many people out there wanting a big break in radio and I feel if you're not a presenter it's tougher. I think that this be a great signal that Radio 1 is serious about providing new opportunities outside of just presenters. After all diverse backroom staff and production teams from all walks of life are just as important for a radio station as its hosts...

I’d like to see these new presenters have a go at doing a normal mainstream show rather than have a really strict format.

I said this on a post a while back, when Arielle gets time off from Early Breakfast, hopefully one of the recent Friday breakfast hosts gets a crack at covering, a full week of normal mainstream format.
