xxladybarefootxx got a reaction from BBCAaron in Annie Nightingale dies aged 83
Not to side-track from Annie, who achieved incredible things in her lifetime at Radio 1, and will be hugely missed and remembered for her amazing work and enthusiasm for life -
But, I had the joy of seeing David Rodigan live at a local gig in 2022 (much more my taste in music), and I couldn't believe the energy and passion he brought for an 'older' guy... it was such a wonderful experience. I can only imagine that Annie brought the same euphoria to fans of her style of music.
(I was hoping Greg or someone else on R1 would get Ram Jam involved in the "we need jungle" sideline of the last week)
It is lovely to see the tributes pouring in for Annie though, clearly a much-loved pioneering broadcaster who was, and stayed well respected on a so-called 'youth station', who held an important place on air as well as in everyones' hearts.

    Hiya.
I've noticed the chatbox is hurting the forums, I'm keen that those bigger discussion points appear on the forums themselves, and the general day-to-day chitter chatter uses the chat software. The forums are good for archive purposes, easier to keep on top of conversations, to promote on social media, and essentially are the bread and butter for bringing people back to the website.
A lot of admins end up closing their chatboxes because they take people away from the forums - I don't want to do that as I like the interactivity.
But have a think whether it's worth opening a new thread for bigger talking points - like new voiceovers, 2024 predictions, etc. Forums still have a place on the internet, hoping we can prove that!
    Thank you!

I’d not be upset if it were to close, it’s hard to keep up or find topics discussed in there after they’ve been posted a while. Thanks for all you do Jono keeping this website alive and us radio nerds a place

This is Wynne Evans he’s on Radio Wales https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wynne_Evans - I think it’s only Jason who’s covered for Owain before so it sounds like they’ll go for Radio Wales presenters to cover as it’s in Cardiff

I personally still think it was the way it was said rather than what was said.  To show up drunk is unprofessional, and to interrupt and disrespect a colleague while they are trying to present a show is rude.
Scott used to champion some awfully questionable pop songs, just for the fun of it. Rebecca Black - Friday being one example. It was a terrible song, but it was a laugh.   Chris would also often throw subtle shade at Scott's bangers choices, so negative opinions on songs are definitely allowed, but I think Arielle's tone was out of order and brought down the mood of what Charlie was trying to make an uplifting dance show and a cheesey fun song that she wanted to play.
Even Zane Lowe respected Scott's love for cheesey pop so much that he had a hand in the whole playing out the entire Britney album stunt, I'm sure that music wasn't to Zane's taste, but then nobody was asking him to play it on his show.

This just reminded me of the time a caller said 'I've reached the point of lockdown where I'm starting to fancy Chris' and I was completely in agreement with her! ?
But Chris isn't there anymore... so it's Greg for me.

This has been one of my favourite types of Summer games so far. As mentioned above, it’s quite relaxed, and nice to hear so many different presenters involved and interacting in different ways.
I appreciate that something like this has to be co-ordinated and therefore ‘staged’ to a certain extent, but it feels a lot less contrived than some of the previous years events. Just seems like a fairly wholesome bit of chaos for everyone to engage with so far, which has been fun I think.

I think it has been a better game to the past few years after the first one it feels a bit more relaxed, simplified and haven’t over complicated things. As always with these things it seems very orchestrated and easy to see that the production team has thought of what goes where. What it can be said that unlike previous editions of a summer game it has been more calculated marketing that considers the whole stations brand of featuring presenters of all its programming and reminds people of the good specialist programme the station has off-peak times.

If Shania Twain is getting airtime I don’t see how the ageist/sexist argument has any leg to stand on, although people will still criticise. IMO the Kylie track isn’t in line with R1’s current style… much as it’s a good catchy song

I personally don't feel like there's any particular successful formula for a good/well liked DJ. Others may have slicker formats and cleverly put together games on paper, but that doesn't make Greg's show any less impressive in my eyes.  This isn't me being overly defensive of Greg, but I like how he embraces the unpredictability of having live callers and that can be all the fun that's needed. Songs, silly games, let's face it, who is awake enough to play mastermind style games at 7am? I like how he makes sure even the highest ranking celebrities are all levelled by the kind of features that get people talking - unpopular opinions, ask the nations, it was always meant to be about the listener.
If I'm not mistaken,  I think 'what are you having for your tea' was an off the cuff idea that got so much interaction from the listeners that Vick & Jordan decided to keep it (I'm aware there's more to it than that), but I just think relatability goes a long way, it's why I listen anyway.

I've been listening for the last few years, it does make me chuckle. I love the weekly Youtube recorded version too.

I think Gregor Davidson when he was on early breakfast last week got done with a very sneaky 'Wendy - Can I borrow your potato peeler'. He was asking for random nicknames for peoples' neighbours, and a texter said they called their neighbour Maris because she came around to borrow a potato peeler, and later they found out she was called Wendy ?
