TheSaviourisHere reacted to xxladybarefootxx in Greg James for Radio 2
I don't think it will happen, and I don't want it to happen, but I do think that Greg could just be the perfect personality to shake up the middle-classness of Radio 2.
He's very good at reading the room, very capable of adapting to different environments and covering serious topics with sincerity and light-heartedness, but mostly I feel his style of taking the mick out of himself and his listeners could well be a refreshing change to R2 from what I have listened to recently.

Or Moyles he did a great impression the other day and said he was dressed smart. Because he was having an interview at Radio 2 to take over Kens slot as Ken ?

This is such a big slot can we rule out Scott being moved to it...Zoe moving to it and Scott put onto breakfast?
There really is any possibility and then sometimes the most unexpected thing happens.

The most genius move would be to give it to Rob Brydon ... He could take the p**s out of Ken Bruce, in KB's own voice ?

Look out, then, because if Management can cock something up, then they probably will !!

Think I said this in the chat box thingy contraption. But I doubt Jo will move now. She's back in the time slot she started out in the 90s on Radio 1, only this time without Steve Lemaq. The abuse she had when she was paired up with Simon Mayo on drive was disgusting. Even he had to step up and state that it wasn't her fault and she shouldn't of had that thrown at her. Plus she can get away with more post 7pm. Ive heard her play the likes of Wu Tang Clan Gravel Pit not too long ago, can Radio 2 play that before 7? Not sure. I think she likes her musical freedom there as a, specialist show, so why sacrifice that?

Vanessa Feltz is another one jumping on the BBC bashing bandwagon... (unsurprising considering who she works for now) She was happy to take a wage from them for many years until she jumped ship. Funny how she's piping up with the ageism bollocks. All the people moaning at the BBC for "getting rid of him like they did Steve Wright"... The latter still works at R2, and Ken was signed up by GHR, not much the BBC can do if his mind is made up.

She’ll spout any old shite. I find that broadcasters of Fi Glover and Jane Garvey, Tom Robinson are as know of older generation but are still at superb comedy. Think younger audiences can be open to listening to a broadcaster of any age (bit of a generalisation and not 100% true) but says something how radio 1 will have a twenty something to presenters like Pete Tong and Annie Nightingale in sixties and seventies. It shows from those who are aspiring to be and starting out in radio will admirable of the careers of the likes of Tony Blackburn, Ken Bruce and Annie Nightinge

Here's a quote I found online on a daily fail post. Some boomer I have added (not for much longer) posted on there. Word for word.
"It's the BBC in general, trying to make radio all for younger listeners. Thing is they all listen to Spotify anyway and don't listen to radio, plus how many of these younger listeners pay the liscence fee? Very very few I bet"
This is Radio 2 we are talking about. They don't have much interest in pulling in people under 30 really. So those people even just over that mark, that could have kids, mortgages, full time jobs etc. All listen to Spotify and don't pay the liscence fee? Piss off.
I'm 34 years old and have never had Spotify, never bothered. And I cant be arsed to Bluetooth my phone into every vehicle I drive all the time. And paying liscence fees? Behave.
Ive seen too much of these entitled pricks about these days. Simply because they had their best years 30 to 40 years ago, they think they own the world and nobody else should have a turn. The good thing is in another 10 or 20 years we won't have to put up with their bs as they won't be here to voice it frankly.
That sounded like a proper circa 2001 Chris Moyles rant. Like him, I'm a lot more mellow nowdays but these types are really annoying me.

It is indeed massive news, and a huge blow to the BBC. Fair play to Bauer and Greatest Hits Radio for signing him up (and importantly Popmaster going with him) for what is effectively the same timeslot. It's news that probably took R2/the BBC by surprise. From Ken's insistence it's his choice... And the fact it's not long since Steve left the afternoon show, it's clear that GHR indeed poached him rather than them choosing to get rid.
There could be a number of factors at play, but I doubt Helen Thomas wouldn't have chosen to take him off that slot just yet. His contract was up in March, and it would've been likely it was renewed by at least another year but, maybe the offer was too good to refuse. Best leaving on a high and of your own accord now rather than outstay your welcome and have the decision made for you further down the line. Although it might be a bit of a blow to R2, especially so soon after the last major changes were made.. it does make things easier for them to press on with evolving the station. It's clear the direction Radio 2 is going in (and it's not necessarily a bad thing, they've been gradually moving towards their current daytime sound for a few years now.. it's just more noticeable now) and Ken's show..both presenting style and music played.. has stuck out compared to the other daytime shows.
Once he gets started at GHR in April..It'll be a bit of a waste if he's not allowed a bit more room to put a stamp on things (like Simon Mayo at Drive time), mid mornings are very much generic commercial radio "That was, next up", three in a row..30 second links mostly about the Cash Register competition. The addition of PopMaster will be a massive improvement to the slot already. It's sounds like they're sticking with the 70's, 80's and 90's thing so...Would be good if they give him similar freedom to play a few lesser played tracks from those decades alongside the usual overplayed hits, like he does currently.
For what it's worth, despite many cries online of "Radio 2 will die now" or "nobody will listen", It will likely still remain the most listened to station, and like with Scott's show and the other changes, the direction the station is heading in will attract many more listeners (many of which may well be those who have migrated from Radio 1 with Scott). I doubt Ken will take all 8 million listeners with him, although whoever replaces him will undoubtedly have huge shoes to fill taking over the most listened to slot in the UK.
Sorry for the long winded essay.

I feel for whoever takes over from Ken on Radio 2 - they'll have big shoes to fill and inevitably the successor of a major show is always compared to the previous presenter (see Nick Grimshaw on Breakfast post-Chris Moyles) - ideally you want to be the person after the successor.
As for who that successor will be, Jo Whiley or Gary Davies both feel probably the safest choices - well known to Radio 2 listeners and both long enough away now from Radio 1 to avoid being viewed as (gasp!) 'another ex-Radio 1 presenter' (the horror!). An outside shout might be OJ Borg or Vernon Kay - both of whom seem to be fairly popular when they've done cover duty on daytime before.
Interesting times ahead though at Radio 2.

I would say the odds of Zoe and new breakfast host are slim. Think Gary is listeners favourite or twitters favourite. Trevor or Jo will be the most likely favourites with odds on either. Think you right well kept secret bit of surprise and think with more news ahead. Good work and smart stuff from Ben Cooper. The ‘Greatest Hits Radio’ brand name is becoming a formidable brand and can imagine a massive marketing campaign ahead. It most certainly is big news for radio and with the exodus of names leaving the BBC and if Steve Wright does join him there then means an interesting RAJAR ahead of the end of the year.

I would like to see Greg see out this year anf next before the change. For me he is still too good

TheSaviourisHere reacted to AndyK77 in Ideal Line-Up
Always a fun thread but I almost think it needs to be "ideal line-up after Greg leaves" as few of us would turf Greg off breakfast but in my case I'd love Jordan or Jordan and Katie on breakfast. I've also worked on the basis that Adele, Rickie and Melvin, Matt and Mollie won't be on the station indefinitely.
I've also made longer shows to keep live programming on-air longer into the evening.
Monday to Friday
0400 - 0700 Early Breakfast with Arielle Free
0700 - 1000 Breakfast with Jordan and Katie
1000 - 1300 Emil Franchi
1300 - 1600 Sam and Danni
1600 - 1900 Jack Saunders on Drive (Chart on Friday until 1800)
1900 - 2200 Combine Future Sounds and Future Artists with Kerri Cosh (Keep Danny Howard at 1800 and Sarah at 2000)
2200 - 0100 Late night show with Jeremiah Asiamah (Pete Tong Friday).
0100 - 0300 Specialist Shows
Weekends
0700 - 1000 James Cusack
1000 - 1300 Arille Free
1300 - 1600 Vick Hope
1600 - 1900 Dance Anthems with Charlie Hedges (Sat) Life Hacks with Vicky Hawkesworth (Sunday)
1900 - 2200 Jeremiah Asiamah (Satuday) New Music of the week with Kerri Cosh (Sunday)
2100 Documentary type show (Sunday)
2200 - 0100 Charlie Tee (Saturday)
2200 - 0000 Indie Show with Nels Hylton

Is it really? When she covered Dean she was very good at it. Also you could hear her personality broadcasting talents during Murder Mystery.

Sian Eleri for mid-morning is a bold call ...
... Specialist shows do need a 'stable' position in the schedule (9pm clashes with the R2 specialist shows, for me, though).
Maybe try Jack and Clara together for the 'Evening Sessions'?
A 'hard No' to Rock Show on a Sunday - Fri or Sat is place for that.
-
TheSaviourisHere reacted to UnofficialStark in Next Radio 1 Breakfast presenters
I mean giving high profile slots to people that haven't been promoted from anywhere else on the schedule. For example, Dean and Vicky, Dean had only held one permanent slot and Vicky wasn't on the station's schedule. Nat O'Leary getting Sundays after one round of Early Breakfast, Sian and Gemma getting their shows after only covering them once as well. Charlie Tee replacing Renee LeVice is also a good example, she hadn't done much before that.

You guys were there the year I was made redundant, through deaths in the family and while I was having to deal with the most toxic job ever - just to survive. You have played a major part in helping keep my mental health on track, even when the darkest of thoughts were in my mind, your show kept me going. Best of luck with all you do.
Love you, bye (for now).

TheSaviourisHere reacted to JamTriv in Say farewell to Scott and Chris from Radio 1!
Hi Scott and Chris,
Where to begin? I first started listening to you in 2018/19 as I was starting my GCSEs. I used to come home and first thing I would do is switch on the podcast. I found this really helpful for times when I was very stressed. Your humour and laughter made my day so much better.
Shortly after I went to college, and then we had the lockdown. My mental health down spiralled. I was in a very very bad place but I would always regain myself after hearing you for 4 hours a day. What an amazing 4 hours it used to be. I loved it when you covered Radio 1 Breakfast, again the humour and fun was amazing.
Fast forward to now where I am now full time employed. When I can, I switch you on while I am working, and if I can I put you on in the main room so everyone can hear your contagious fun and games.
While I am sad it is ending, I am also overjoyed that you both are moving onto amazing opportunities. I really hope that one day we get re-united (Radio 1 breakfast perhaps ?).
For now, good luck and Godspeed.
Best Wishes,
James

Hi Scott and Chris,
I started listening to you both and radio 1 during lockdown, hearing you both really inspired me to become a presenter on R1 some day. Hopefully I might get to work with you both sometime.
Good luck with everything,
William.

Awesome idea, but that would need more than just us here on the forum. (I don't know if I can help cause I'm not from the UK.) But if social media, especially popular figures like artists or other DJs get involved I can see the song make it easily to the top 40.
