I personally don't feel like there's any particular successful formula for a good/well liked DJ. Others may have slicker formats and cleverly put together games on paper, but that doesn't make Greg's show any less impressive in my eyes.  This isn't me being overly defensive of Greg, but I like how he embraces the unpredictability of having live callers and that can be all the fun that's needed. Songs, silly games, let's face it, who is awake enough to play mastermind style games at 7am? I like how he makes sure even the highest ranking celebrities are all levelled by the kind of features that get people talking - unpopular opinions, ask the nations, it was always meant to be about the listener.
If I'm not mistaken,  I think 'what are you having for your tea' was an off the cuff idea that got so much interaction from the listeners that Vick & Jordan decided to keep it (I'm aware there's more to it than that), but I just think relatability goes a long way, it's why I listen anyway.

The amount of love that people have for Greg on this forum seems to be at odds with his listener figures. The amount of love for the most basic presenters seems weird considering this is a Scott Mills forum who had fun games, engaging features and was funny. Greg outside of R1 is great but on his show he sings a song called ten to ten, plays a game called stand up or sit down. Jordan has a segment called what are you having for dinner. Katie does some weird segments too! The only ones that compare to Scott are Matt and Molly and this is evidenced by the fact that they were the most popular presenters at R1 Dundee. They opened radio 1 big weekend and were the lead presenters during the weekend, all the DJs played their games with the celebrities also they have producer Amy. They have a tonne of games and they’re the most engaging DJs. I don’t think they’d take the breakfast slot as neither of them like waking up early but they’re not going anywhere. Aled likes them far too much. Either drive time or mid morning.

Everybody's outlook is different on their sexuality.
I am not in the closet but I don't talk about the fact I am "mostly gay" in work.  However, as it isn't a secret I can't believe it isn't widely known.  Nor do I care.

Right about Kylie but wrong about their attempts to make this an event for younger audiences.

Forgot that the Leeds event last year was cancelled due to the Queen's death.

... Soddit, reading back through this, it occurs to me I've been persisting with the show for 2 years now - That's long enough - I'm sticking with Huw, on Radio Wales (Mollie's 'Future Pop' on Thurs still a good listen, though ...)

Festival Republic are contracted by the BBC to provide the logistical and organisation side of things for most of their music events, especially Big Weekend & Radio 2’s event. It’s highly likely FR do the management of everything outside of broadcast and the initial talks with the local council to decide on the location.

If you make an account and follow radio 1 on the site then you can see their plays of the tracks and artists as well.

I really enjoy Scott Mills Show. My parents love it too, even if they only listen to the podcast because they hate the music

I don’t think they’ll get rid, it seems to cover their live set and outreach remit, and of course provides a way to engage with the fans of the station.
Of course it’d be cheaper for them to just do that Out Out concert they did in 2021 every year, but that would mean they don’t met the above two points if they did that. And of course, it’d be a bit bland doing it in Wembley every year.

I don't know from memory. But if the date can be tracked down I'm sure we would have clipped it out or I may have the show itself recorded.

EDIT: I've found it! 1st May 2007, the story was Laura went commando at the Sony Radio Awards the night before. Couple of mentions I've found are at the 2hr 10min mark (after Mylo/Miami Sound Machine), and at 2hr 15mins as well. There could be more about but I spotted those, he just puts us down as "the unofficial website". Backstory on it starts around 25 mins in.
Couple of website screenshots from the day itself as well. I've used my amazing mspaint editing skills to clean it up, as apparently we are more tasteful in 2023 than 2007. And are a Radio 2 family site now.

It depends how many of the 1950s style old guard are still hanging on. It would be something else to moan about if there's enough of them.

Wouldn't shock me if it made a return - but probably in a slightly different form to its Radio 1 days.
No doubt though some of the usual Radio 2 moaners (the sort who haven't accepted that the schedule no longer has the likes of Johnny Walker and the late Terry Wogan front and centre) will be up in arms about how juvenile and pathetic it all is and how they'll move to GHR or Boom Radio.

I mean I've seen presenters flogging their own merchandise before but not on sale in an actual store!
    Spotted this one in Tesco:

I assume Pete Tong gave it the green light.

Anecdotally I've seen some Ken Bruce listeners returning, saying he's a safe pair of hands and doesn't have the adverts like GHR (unless you pay). Given no mass exodus when Steve Wright left, and some green shoots under Vernon Kay, hopefully R2 can stabIlise things.
The station also sounds great with the new jingles.

He glosses over that quite quickly, but does talk about the weird concept of being told they were happy he was losing listeners. And then talking about life after the breakfast show.
