Flowers Call Fix - Chris Moyles

Hah, every radio show is 'fixed' to an extent.

Callers are all prepped and conversation is dicussed beforehand eg i'll ask you this then answer etc etc

And all links are scripted, Moyles and his team are more guilty of this than Mills. Respect to Moyles and his team though for producing a full show script for 5, 3 hours shows a week.

The problem is we're all far too geeky compared to most of the newbies who come along and visit the fan sites. Some take the radio stuff too seriously and spend as much time looking at it as they would with something like 'is there a God?'

No it's those sort of responses that make me smile. The non-Mills fans and Moyles fans always dig into Scott's show and say such and such is made up, and yet when the table's turned they don't like it. That's all I'm trying to say, no need for me to sign up to another forum to say it

Well if people say something completly untrue you will get those kind of responses. There is a lot of unfair criticisms for both shows, but to suggest an entire 3 hours is "scripted" is completly rediculous. I'm not saying some elements aren't planned on moyles's show, but it's hardly scripted is it?

Again Stevie, it's all very well saying this from the comfort of a Mills forum isn't it? I'm not saying you are wrong in this particular case (I couldn't comment on it anyway, didn't hear the show this morning), but if you really wanted to make a point about moyles fans, address it to somewhere where they can see it rather than from the safety of a mills board! I'm not having a go or anything, but it just seems kind of wierd.

It's a jokey topic more than anything, I wanted to prove a point. Like with this topic - I'm not picking on the Chris Moyles site, there's plenty of others - but huge topics like this -

Pizza Guy -

I reckon it's probably fake. There's no way that guy would give Scott permission to play those calls on air.

Scott Mills Show -

Laura's Diary is good to listen to, but I can't help wondering whether Chappers and Scott just sit down and make it up!

You get the idea. Perhaps they should think about posting on the relavent message board as well.

It really is scripted though. Not word for word but Moyles' rants are scripted and the conversation is all bullet pointed down on script. Thus the lack of hesitations, false starts in sentences. Etc. This is common practise in radio. The trick to to MAKE it sound unscriped which Moyles et al do very well.

No offence, but I imagine it to be a different ball game at radio 1. I think you are confusing scripted with planned. The team do plan what subjects they are going to talk about, but not that far in advance - Aled has stated before on CM.net that topics may not be decided until an hour before they go on air perhaps even less. Also, if I was being paid to talk professionally on air, I wouldn't fluff up my sentances either (although the team do actually fluff on occasion - which Chris ususally records and plays for days after)

I would say that ultimatly Moyles show is planned in some respect (it would be foolish to suggest the Radio 1 breakfast show is otherwise), but is nowhere near "scripted".

But the boastful caricature obscures the fact he is a serious broadcaster. Everything is planned to the second; banter pre-arranged, callers primed, sound-effects cued. Moyles orchestrates a five-person comedy show, making it sound genuine, edgy and effortless, pulling in his best-ever breakfast audience of 6.5 million listeners and contributing to Radio 1's recent renaissance in the process.

Sorry to break the illusion.

Chris Evans' show is unscripted, Moyles is totally scripted. Download Evans' podcast and see the difference.

That article is an interesting insight in to the show. All those team members aren't employed just to turn up on the day and talk, so I'd imagine the article is right.

I think it's unfair to bring Evans in, Moyles does Breakfast, Evans doesn't.

I was comparing Evan and Moyles because the TYPE of show is similar. Evans has a team too, although as you can tell from listening, they don't have a script as there are lots more natural speech features, hesitations, cock ups.

I wasn't showing preference to either, as I like both of these presenters equally.

Fair enough Staghead. I bow to your superior knowledge :)

Although if that is the case Re: Evens, it shows IMO. It's a sloppy show for me.

    • They seem to be using James more for cover now makes me think it will be him getting weekends eitjer breakfast or 1 till 4
    • Yep am very much Capital Breakfast now. Jordan, Chris and Sian are a great trio and it's got that feel of the old shows Jordan and Chris used to do on Radio 1. It doesn't take itself too seriously but is packed full of content and slick. With Greg he's great but 6 years in you've probably heard it all before plus frankly I can sit through the Capital Playlist a lot more easily than the Radio 1 playlist (where some of the inclusions and omissions can be quite baffling at times). Plus after things like the Oscars or Met Gala or if there's a particularly big TV show or film or popstar then Greg won't half wang on about it at times. I guess it's partly to be expected with it being a Breakfast show on a young station but it can feel very London bubble and get tired.
    • Ore Olukoga is in for Arielle on Tuesday 14th May. James Cusack is in for Danny Beard on Saturday 1st June. James Cusack is in for Nat on Sunday 2nd June.
    • I honestly never thought in a million years I’d move from Radio 1 to be a regular Capital breakfast show listener. But it’s got pretty much everything I want - 3 really genuine, entertaining mates having a laugh, playing silly games and it all sounds great. I became a big fan of Chris from his days with Scott, became a Jordan fan on Going Home, and Sian Welby is newer to me but is loads of fun too.  It’s great and I’ve shocked myself by transferring my listening at breakfast. For me Greg’s show now feels very tired and it’s time for something new. But with Jordan gone that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. Greg’s had a great run and I’m a fan - but there’s no new ideas now. I still listen to Radio 1 at other times - but this show feels like very serious competition for Greg.
    • They have built four new studios to increase capacity, alongside the existing six.  Bearing in mind that some of the output of R1, 1X, R2 & 6M comes from elsewhere, and Asian Network is gradually moving all output to Birmingham, this should be enough!
    • How do they manage to cater for 6Music and Radio 2 on that floor? Did they adapt it?
    • I think we've all figured out now how much you like it @AndyK77 😂 Personally while I think it's by far the best show on the Capital schedule and better than its predecessor, it still has the shortened songs and other commercial-radio aspects that remind me why I'm a Radio 1 fan. No matter how well this has worked out for Jordan, and all credit to him for landing the job, I can't help but feel that a Jordan and Katie show on R1 breakfast would have been so much better!
    • A few weeks in and I am actually loving the show and Jordan is a nice mix of his old chaotic self and dare I say it a slick jock.
    • He must be in his element. At Eurovision and a Gold award!
    • I really like Rylan, and as much of a fun idea it would be to have Scott and Rylan together, I think Rylan is too much of a main character.  Scott needs a side-kick rather than a full on co-host I think. That’s why he and Chris worked so well, Scott steered the show, and Chris was the perfect person to have alongside him.    I don’t religiously listen to Rylan’s show, but when I do catch it, it’s perfect weekend energy. He has a very warm presenting style too, but something makes me think he and Scott together every day would be a bit too much.
    • So pleased for Scott on his best entertainment show win. As much as I miss his R1 style, he clearly puts so much into his shows, well deserved and it’s a big two fingers up to all the abuse he has had since joining R2
    • There are a lot that share your sentiments. People have made comparisons to the different takes to Ukraine.
    • It's a big 'No' from me (Israel-Palestine). No further comments.
    • A joke about pirates: ‘but we’re not jumping ship, like someone else’
    • I felt it was much better with the staging and everything.  I still cannot warm to his voice but he's a very good performer. Ireland was everything though.
