Andy Parfitt - the new Matthew Bannister

so much for 40 years of radio 1. celebrating the end IMO.

jk and joel were so clearly pushed out of the station and could have gone to so much more. nihal is a specialist dj he isn't a daytime dj, why give him the job? again a case of the bbc trying to look big with equality. they should have just kept spoony on. greg james is a nice person but didn't deserve promotion so early. it is the same as nihal getting a slot so soon. they know it isn't the right move and have gone and cut him down to avoid losing the 6.30 - 7.00 listeners. sneaky.

dance anthems is being phased out. this is clear from the move to a friday. why oh why? vernon was never around enough, it should have been given back to edith, and jk and joel could have got afternoons. but no! they give it to dick and dom?! and kelly osbourne, where did that come from? fearne and reggie on the chart will kill it completely.

radio 1 will lose themselves a listener here. i feel poorly treated and whilst they are trying to fill up a gap at the young teenagers end they are creating a bigger gap between the old audience and radio 2. :x

well said, i have listened to judge jules for years but even i admit that his show has gone a bit wayward in the last 2 years. but still he gets the listeners.

as for dance anthems, i still find it one of the best shows on radio 1 by far. are they trying to phase it out becuase dave dosent play 'speed garage' for the teeny boppers? urgh.

on the grid.

Oh come on I think people are over-reacting a little here and I'm sorry but some of you are sounding like the old gits on other forums who think that Radio 1 should be for them for all their life and DLT should be back on the breakfast show.

Things move on and the station is for "the kids"

At least give the new stuff a chance before slagging it off quite so much.

the good news is that this is almost certainly the last set of changes Andy Parfitt will oversee as radio one controller-he chalks up 10 years in the job in march and will probably use the anniversary to move on-day to day running of the station has allready passed to Ben Cooper. His successor (probably Ben Cooper) will want to make his own set of changes next year.I have a feeling that Jo Whiley will be one victiom of those changes-Parfitt is too fond of her to let her go it seems. As for Edith she has a year to shine(or othertwise) in the 1-4 slot before next years reshuffle. Its interesting that Edith booked the start of her 2 week holiday for the day after the changes were due to be annoounced-I wonder if she feared the worst...

Its not interesting at all you goon. All the changes would have been known around the building before it went public... surely that much is obvious.

I dare say it works a bit like a cabinet reshuffle- all a bit of a mess right up until the last minute, with DJs and their agents haggling over contracts etc.Right up until thursday morning its possible Edith and other DJs didnt know whether they would still have a job that afternoon.

I think the thing about Radio 1 is that it needs to shed older listeners to keep in trend with the younger listeners. If it's appealing to older listeners, it's not doing its job of entertaining the young ones.

The problem with these changes are that it is appealing to young listeners, but also maybe getting rid of a different audience that are in fact still part of the target audience.

Just to put my too cents worth in here...speaking as someone who thinks 24 years olds are "kids" I don't really give a damn about the reshuffle. I listen to radio 1 for the music and the chat.

The music R1 plays at the moment is great as pop seems to have died a death (I'm ignoring Girls Aloud here). If they start to play more McFly to attract a younger audience then I'm off to Radio 2. As for the chat, the main DJ's I listen to are Moyles and Mills (Scott Millie as my gf calls him) and as they're not leaving, so I'm happy.

Oh yeah Jo Whiley is a national institution like Mayo was before her. I was shocked when he went and will be when Whiley goes. She will of course eventually go but not for a good while yet methinks.

Who was Matthew Bannister indeed BHB?

Sometimes here, sometimes not.
