<b>It's October! And to kick start the week you've got a review from me, who rather than doing some useful homework or any thing like that, has decided to give you a summary of tonight's Scott Mills show. </B>

Chappers appeared to be in quite a good mood today, which he puts down to Spooks being on tonight. Me nor Scott knows what that's all about, all we know is it's MI5 not 9 to 5. Laura meanwhile is likely to be spending her night playing Scrabble. Scott would prefer to be going out, like most university students who seem to either be going to see James King or Judge Jules tonight.

Now if you're like me (the word sad comes to mind), you'll have gone out and brought a copy of <b>The Hoff's new single</b> which was released today. I did it just to spite my friends who dislike it. By the end of the night Scott had found four callers who had each gone out and brought the single. The second caller said it appeared to be very limited in demand. More reason to buy it, it'll be a collectors item! And another guy brought one from Virgin Megastore in Ipswich and found there was only 32 singles left in the shop. He especially counted them for us, and he's going to tell us tomorrow if they're still there. It's currently doing the rounds in ASDA as their 'single of the week'. Scott thinks it's worth a buy if only for the house remix on the single, which should be on Scott's Friday Floor Fillers this week. I found myself in Woolworths being asked why I was buying it, only to give the response 'because it's great!' What discrimination you have to go through to get this CD. Even then they didn't seem to know where the CDs were being kept as there were so few available.

This week's <b>Record of the Week</b> is by Robbie Williams and is called 'Lovelight'. I'm thinking it sounds a bit like JK, whilst others think it's a bit like the Scissor Sisters. Tell me what you think on the forum.

<i>He's got the horn... have you? Jazz, not to be mistaken with 'Jaz' which brings up a picture of Bin Laden</i></center>

Now you can understand why Scott got a silver at the Sony Radio Awards when he looks at a broad variety of musical topics. Today Scott looked at the many types of <b>Jazz Magazines</B> that are available. Mr X was on today, and he's got an embarrassing story to tell about his jazz magazines that he'd left under the carpet in his spare room. They've gone missing. Now you'd presume the girlfriend has found them. But actually his mother-in-law is staying too, and she's staying in the spare room, and likes to moves things around. She's very nosey, and has been giving Mr X evils ever since. But she's always done that. So has the magazines fallen in the hands of the girlfriend or the mother? And what should he do? Scott thinks he should tell him that the magazines were left from the previous home owner.

Following that, we had Nick the Plumber on who is an expert in hidden jazz magazines. He's taken out bathroom suites and found adult magazines wrapped around the base of pedestals and in toilets in carrier bags. But does he keep them? He wasn't prepared to tell us...

So where are the Top 10 places for these magazines to be hidden? Scott comprised a list, which looks a bit like this:

<Li>Under a loose floor board

<Li>In a toilet system

<Li>Round the wash basin

<Li>In a box in a loft

<Li>Under the mattress

<Li>Behind furniture

<Li>In the sock draw

<Li>Under the wash basket

<Li>Under the sink... and...

<Li>Next to the slipknot album

Now Laura, she's a <b>few biscuits short of a church coffee morning</b>, so it comes as no surprise to hear that she spent the day watching the Amazon.co.uk book chart today. As we all know (if you read the forum and news page), she's releasing Laura's Diary as a book. And it's presently 12,552 places high in the charts despite that fact she's not even finished it yet. One e-mailer commented on how funny it was it's already 20% off without being released. Yesterday she spent her time sending thing to and from the publishers, using her boyfriend James' e-mail address. She didn't know if the stuff had sent, so had to keep checking the sent folder to confirm it all. But whilst she was there, she found a very amorous e-mail from James to one of his female contacts. Thankfully the e-mail was sent in 2004, so it's unlikely to mean much these days. Unless James has his calendar set two years in the past...

And now more amusing tales on the <B>Flirt Divert</b> line. It's like Halloween has already arrived. Firstly we heard from a guy who was calling Janet to invite her to a fair. And no doubt he'd have got her a cuddly toy, had she have not given him the Flirt Divert number. Then we've got the bloke who seems to treat women as if they're three years of age. Beginning his message with 'ello, ello, ello, ello'. Which only works if you're auditioning for The Bill. And even they haven't used that line since 1982. Finally we've got John. He was calling the person who went 'up the ask' the other night. He wants to know if she wants to go for a drink with him, presumably in the same place. We believe it's a pub, although there could be many other colourful explinations to this message. Could it be linked to McFly's new song - featuring the 'when I fell in love with Uranus'. Let's move on shall we?

<i>"Quick! In there! There's a clothes crime going on!"</i></center>

And coming up later tonight on Radio 1 you can go <b>shopping with Steve Lamacq</b>. Has he become the new Trinny and Susannah or the new face for Sainsbury's?

<i>Chappers: "What for? Twiglets?"

Scott: "Don't know!"

Chappers: "What? It must say!"</i>

After a few minutes more details came in to Scott. It involves £200 and a record shop. So we're guessing it's not a supermarket, and doesn't involve a trolley dash. Shame. May be a future feature though, eh?

And during the show on the forum we were talking about <b>Celebrity Wife Swap</b> which is on tonight. Scott picked up on one of the pictures we put up, which made him feel sick. The advert is certainly an interesting one. It comes with a delightful picture of John Mccririck and Edwina Curry, her with a spatula in her hand and him with his man boobs out. Delightful.

<I>Chappers: "Could be worse... could be the other way round"</i>

<i>The new Rate My Listener picture got a record amount of mingings...</i></center>

A good show tonight, with some good banter. Don't forget to let us know on the forum what you thought of the show, and we'll have some of the highlights to download shortly.

    • Probably got fed up of the usual moaning bastards all over it, asking for Ken Bruce and Jimmy Young back on air.
    • Think it may have been better to include Radio 1 in this and 1 xtra ultimately focus on boosting a BBC Sounds social media to bring the multi-generational content marketed to a broader audience through one singular channel and having a separate social brand skewed to younger audiences maybe they should consider just having a @BBC @BBCSounds  @BBCSport @BBCNews @BBCFresh (youth brand) social media acounts national.
    • Although a lot of their target audience do seem to be moving across to Instagram now.
    • I suppose it's because not a lot of people use Twitter (or X) so maybe it's not worth their time, surprised about Facebook though.
    • Surprised to learn Radio 2 and 6 Music are moving away from X and Facebook, I would have thought there's more appeal in Radio 1 doing that instead. Their target audiences still use Facebook, and it's still a key way to reach a good mix of audiences. Agree about X though, don't see any need for it. https://radiotoday.co.uk/2024/05/bbc-radio-2-and-6-music-quit-facebook-and-x-publishing/
    • Just wondering…has any DJ got the answer wrong yet? I’ve not heard one and they are pretty tough questions! 😆
    • On the weekends theme @Bluestraw said this in the chatbox but I was listening live to James cusack's show yesterday and agree it would be a travesty if he doesn't feature in the weekend plans. Both the greg james fb page and users on digital spy are saying similar. Imagine that, being both part of the LGBTQ+ community but able to appreciate good presenters in 2024.
    • Tara Kumar is in for Sian on Tuesday 4th June.
    • I think at least part of the problem is that a lot of Danny's act is based around Drag humour which (a) isn't for everybody (b) has to be so tamed down for daytime radio, it just becomes silly and (c) it is humour generally consumed on a night out with lots of alcohol taken!
    • Oh boy, if that's the case above then what are they trying to do at r1? If Danny was put into weekend afternoons that's one hell of a faux par and a big nail in the coffin. While ok, Nat and Vicky aren't about to blow the doors off and are only there as the fallout of d&v, but to then follow that up with Danny for 3 days a week. Come on. To go from a place where we had Katie followed by M&M to that. What happened to the prestigiousness of r1? Do they need reminding they've just lost Jordan? It's getting embarrassing. Like I said before, when I had people with 0 interest in radio whatsoever and it was in the background telling me to turn it off, you know it's bad. I saw a random friend from years ago even posting on fb with how has someone like Danny ended up on r1. Everywhere you turn its negative. Doesn't that multiply across the uk in what the r1 audience actually think of this presenter? I'm in the LGBTQ+ community and also r1 target audience but I don't feel I want to listen to this presenter because of that fact. Has some policy actually overtaken the true risk of driving audiences away? The fact is just how @coffeeandgin said, Danny has had chance since March with 2 shows a week and is still not up to the job. The odd podcast yes but certainly not to replace m&m! I've skipped through 10 minutes of this week to make sure I wasn't basing opinions on how it was before and yes it is the same level. When you had presenters like Scott who could keep it fresh despite how many years it had been, but then Danny sounds so out of date already, saying you could tune over to Rylan on r2... but then with a topic of "I want to know what have you missed out on?" I'm sorry?! What kind of local radio is that... it's meant to be radio 1 ffs. Terrible talking points, cringe, unfunny, and so bad on the radio it actually makes it jarring and makes people switch over.
    • I don’t think it will be September it will be a very messy schedule if that’s the case
    • As a member of the LGBTQ+ community my position is exactly yours on female representation.  Yes I want representation but only on merit.   Even if Radio 1 would like more representation from this sector, there are stacks of better options than Danny Beard.
    • I hope you're right! I remember some years ago hearing that the biggest show at a weekend was mid-mornings, but not sure if that's changed with the changing pattern of radio listening in general. Given the best show at the weekend (by a distance) is M&M, would make sense that's now the biggest slot.
    • Someone on here said recently weekend afternoons have a big audience. I think you'd want some of your biggest talent here. Which is why there was talk of a reshuffle. I couldn't personally see Danny in this slot if they decided to keep him.
    • I understand that representation is important. And I can't speak for the LGBTQ+ community. But, as a woman in my mid 30s, I have seen a massive shift towards 'having more women' in every industry/organisation in my lifetime. I have always felt that it should be on merit and capability to carry out a role effectively, rather than just filling a role as a specific gender. Women can be fantastic at everything, but on a personal level I would not want to be hired, for example, as a firefighter  just because I was the only female candidate. I am 5 foot nothing and could not carry you out of a burning building.
