Radio 1's output is terrible this Xmas

A lot of it has sounded incredibly unprofessional over the Christmas period. I could cope with it being just not very good, or not to my taste - but the production values have hit rock bottom and the product is so sub-standard. Radio 1 should be made aware that this really isn't good enough. Whoever it was earlier who said they were thinking of complaining, please do so, they really shouldn't be allowed to think that this kind of standard is ok.

He was alright working with Chappers and Dave, but it's obvious he's struggling with the pre-records. We knew that from the other day, yet no one has helped him out.

Surely the bloke could play some sort of bed or music to play between the end of his report and the song. I know they do that with the podcasts in the morning. It's just "Radio 1 newsbeat we're back in an hour..." and then silence.

Ho hum, back to my music.

It could be clips from Unofficial Mills or the podcast.

They left all the "do that again" and "right take two" bits from Rhys on the show as well, that's really bad.

Still, don't they have technical standards to adhere to? I don't think it's on to broadcast large quanties of horribly over-compressed audio - in fact I will probably turn over to R2 because the under-waterness is making me feel a bit queasy.

I agree this show is below standard. If it wasn't for New Year's Day I don't think they could get away with it. I was expecting them to use the original material rather than recordings on shows. The fact they left the cock-ups in and the lack of editing the original time checks out was bad too.

If dead air is bad, then being late is worse. He seems to have mis-timed again and we had a mash-up of the R1 news 'out' jingle, him saying "Radio 1" and then a sweeper kicking in whilst he was speaking and playing over the top of R1 news out. Clip - what a mess!:*

I don't think Mr. Dudley will be too happy come tomorrow morning. :-p

Well it was pretty bad the other day, and yet he's back today. I feel sorry for him, he's an alright presenter. It just seems he's struggling button pushing and timing.

The 6.30 reporter wasn't as bad. She almost got there, but still hit the music.

    • https://youtu.be/A_Cycjg5_9A?si=NiLTFeiTNWBExFoR   As barmy as Sam Ryder has now gone, as shown in this video. I'd still rather it than that bland Olly Alexander record.
    • I like Scott, and I listen to Rylan's show every week... they do sound great together on Eurovision etc but.. as for a daily show together, I don't think it would work. Rylan would probably have to reign it in a bit which would lose his appeal, otherwise it may become too chaotic, in my opinion. That Saturday slot is perfect for Rylan, his rapport with Sally Traffic and Lottie is great. I suppose it comes down to cost as well and if he would want a daily show?   Radio 2 are clearly happy with Scott's show, and considering he's just won Best Entertainment Show at the ARIA's, I can't see them changing much.
    • A win for Scott which is fantastic after the last few years he's been through!
    • Am I outnumbered for not wanting to work in radio? It feels like there's a lot of geeks that want a job in the industry here.
    • Thought Sam and Danni were robbed of an award.
    • OJ Borg is in for Trevor Nelson on the Rhythm Nation tonight (with Phill Williams on overnight). He's also in for Michael Ball for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th May). Ros Atkins (BBC's Analysis editior) is in for Jeremy Vine on Thursday. Another new name to Radio 2 is Oliver Hides from BBC Radio Wales. He sat in for Owain Wynn Evans yesterday and he's in again this Thursday (9th May) and Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Spoony in for Scott Mills from Tuesday 28th till Friday 31st May.
    • Thought they would make it easier to get to this event. There's been no communication from the council or organisers about travel, even though there's talk of train strikes. Smaller councils have done a better job.
    • They do sound good together, but I'm not sure Rylan will want the extra commitments.
    • I have accepted Chris is unlikely to join Scott's show, and that Chappers has moved on, but I still think he could do with a co-host. The most logical solution, I think, is Rylan. He appears more often on his show than not, and they are great together. Radio 2 could lose Rylan's Saturday show and extend his reach by appearing during the week. I think they'd be great!
    • Tattoo took a while to grow on me. I couldn't see the fuss until weeks after. We have a split household here where the war on Gaza is overshadowing an enjoyment. I'm hoping for a protest of some sort.
    • I've heard that the staging is very impressive.  That and him being "known" might prevent an embarrassing result.  I'm a terrible judge of Eurovision though as Tattoo is still so very meh to me.
    • Feels like after the success of Sam Ryder we are going back to our old ways. Olly Alexander's song is pretty weak. Anyone fancy our chances this year?
    • The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.
