I think it'd be a cool idea if he's up for it, as a more general thing to Radio 1 and to find out a bit more about him and his magic stuff! He seems to work with a lot of shows and stations.

Chris are you up for answering some of our questions :hi:

I'm gonna ask the boring question that I think everyone is asked first then. How did you actually get to working at Radio 1

Long story, but I shall try to briefly summerise it.

Back when I was 13, I used to do lots on Chris Evans' breakfast show, on the phone, I got invited in for my Birthday, it was the day he left! My local commerical station got me involved in their morning show, and thus I had the proper radio bug.

Presented lots of RSL stuff, then started answering the phones on a Sunday morning when I was 16 at BBC Radio Bristol. While at Sixth Form I answered the phones on the Late Show at BBC Radio Bristol, and then moved and went to Uni in... Bristol. I covered for someone on one Sunday and was asked to work alongside Richard Lewis after that. Then spent 3 years as his BA, then Producer and on-air side kick on his Sunday show, and launched the Evening show with him which was every weekday evening.... a great grounding, and I still do the odd Sunday on air with him when I'm back in Bristol and have some time.

While at Radio Bristol, Colin & Edith came to do some OBS while at Glastonbury, I helped out with bits and bobs, and was invited to do work experience with them in London at R1... went in to do it, on my first day the BA went off sick so I BA-ed for the whole week and then got a freelance contract. Worked throughout my final year at Uni freelancing across all the mainstream shows at Radio One, was the assistant tour producer for the Red Nose Rally, which was mental, and amazing. Then finished uni on the Friday and started work as the schedules assistant in the operational department, while still freelancing across all mainstream and specialist shows... then I went over to be an Assistant Producer on The Big Toe Radio Show at BBC 7 for 6 months, before coming back to Radio One as a Unit Assistant. We kinda swap round every month or so as it's a new role in the station, so we'll have done everyone's shows.. then it might change I dunno!

Phew...

Wow, that was quite an interesting story actually. Far more interesting than Laura's story about how she got into work there... sorry love if she's reading :P

So were you an obsessive like we are, just calling up for competitions and features I guess?

Me and er... Ema. Yeah I'll bring her into it considering she's not here :P

Not too obsessive I don't think.. I only really called up once and they seemed to like me and thus I kept coming on... I was like Lloyd!

Thought you might say that. Well that's rather cool.

Okay, so you seem more hard working than the DJs make out :P

Where are you working this week then (for shows)?

And what's your favourite dinner?

This week's a bit odd as I'm off to Edinburgh to do some press, but it's Weekend stuff this weekend (except Sunday when I'm performing in Bristol) Chris Moyles and C&E on Monday and Friday, then the other days off, then back to weekends on Sunday!

Oh and I love vegi sasuages and mash... and sushi from nobu!

So has Chris Evans been your influence for working in radio? Is radio what you're most passionate about or is it magic?

Yeh Chris Evans has I suppose, in that I always want things to sound real, live, fresh, and dangerous!! Spontinatity (SP?!) is the key.

Radio is my main passion, and to be working at Radio One is a dream come true, the magic stuff I do love, and it's a nice sideline!!

My mate applied for Ast. Prd on The Big Toe Show but got turned down cos they didn't think he had enough appeal or something. He already works for the BBC but is trying to switch departments to somewhere in London cos he's stuck in Local Radio.

Any advice of getting him a job in the Real BBC?

Sometimes here, sometimes not.

How does it compare working at BBC7 as well? I've never really imagined people working at BBC7 (or Radio 3, or 4) to have a laugh

It's very different, and indeed better, but I did have a good time at 7. I was an AP on The Big Toe Radio Show, which is an odd show, but really fun to work out, despite the politics! You get a great chance to be really creative, and some amazing people work there.

I did, Drama, Theatre, Film and Television, nothing to do with Radio at all.

Hi chris If chris evans was your role model for radio, is derren brown your role model for magic? xXx

Umm in a way, he's the master of the art of mind-reading, so you can't help but be influenced by him. I knew him when he was living in Bristol and we caught up a few times, he's a really nice guy, and incredibly talented.. but I like to think that what I do these days, although is similar, is very different.

Local Radios a great training ground as you can just learn everything and try everything. Get him to get in contact with Big Toe again (PM me for details) as I think they're trying to get some people from local radio. Advice... keep trying, keep pestering, and keep learning!

He got turned down for Big Toe only a couple of weeks ago despite the guy who hired him being on the panel. He's been trying to get out of Local Radio for ages. Been there 6/7 years now I think. He's a BA and most of the time makes jingles, sweeps, trails etc... but often produces as well and has presented a few shows filling in for other people...he's like the Scott Mills of his station...someone off sick, get (name withheld) to do it.

He thinks the people at his station keep giving him bad references so they don't lose him. He keeps that station going single-handedly.

Sometimes here, sometimes not.
