xxladybarefootxx got a reaction from Jono in Where is Chris Stark?
It's great to see Chris doing so well after going through this massive life changer. I love how honest he has been in speaking about it, and the message is a really powerful one that will hopefully bring a lot of awareness and I'm sure will help others massively.
Hearing him talk about it on the Crouchy podcast was brilliant too - they have a huge audience and it must have been really daunting to put himself in the spotlight on such a sensitive and personal experience.
He really is a top bloke, I'm so glad it was caught early and he can spread the word now.

I thought Jamie did really well for himself with his Comic Relief challenge. Hard for the haters to complain about him during that week! And he managed a full week of radio 🤣

xxladybarefootxx got a reaction from AndyK77 in Jordan North's first Capital Radio breakfast show
Another big fan of the Capital breakfast show here. I didn't expect to stick with it, but I try to listen back every day (I have Greg on every morning because I am a huge fan of his style and can't think of any other presenters who can do what he does solo on that show every day). I tend to catch up on Capital, either at 10.30am when RMC start, or in the afternoon, depending on what's on in work.
I never was the biggest fan of Vick & Jordan together on going home. It had some funny moments, but for the most part it seemed to me like Vick playing herself down and giggling a lot, and Jordan reining in his tangents and was mostly an awkward listen for me.
Jordan with Chris and Sian has turned into a must listen. I get that it's very different from R1, ads, shorter links etc are some of the criticisms. But, they have a lot of features, they seem to make the links count and get into interesting topics, different topics every day. Maybe it's just my age, but I feel like they are celebrating all things average that most people would be able to take part in. It's laugh out loud radio that I really wasn't expecting it to be, having never been a Capital listener before. I miss Sian already, but Kemi is doing a great job filling in, she seems a great fit so far.
Breakfast is the only show I listen to on Capital, so I can't comment on how repetitive it gets throughout the day. I imagine it's no different to a whole day of R1 at the moment though. I find that Capital seem to sprinkle more variety into the playlist daily and throw a few old school tracks in there to mix it up more. To me it feels like the Radio 1.5 I have been waiting for. Playing the Birds of a Feather theme tune is acceptable here and it's okay to admit to going to bed at 8pm. Perfect!
Maybe I haven't been listening long enough for the playlist to grate on me yet. I am fidning the R1 playlist repetitively dull at the moment, but that's partly because I am not that much invested in the presenters/shows that are on after Greg at the moment. In the same way I am not interested in anything else on Capital apart from breakfast. When Scott said 'Oh god it's not Tiesto with The Business again?' during the last lolathon I'm sure I wasn't the only one thinking the same! I was listening because it was Scott & Chris.

I think Jamie is really starting to settle into the role well. He comes across as really warm, and genuinely invested in the listeners when he’s talking to them which is nice. I think he’s building a really great relationship with Vicki and Katie too.
His recent great company podcast is great too, where he has quite a deep chat with someone new each week. He’s clearly a very genuine person and I think he has some real potential.

xxladybarefootxx reacted to AndyK77 in Danny Beard on weekend afternoons
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community my position is exactly yours on female representation. Yes I want representation but only on merit. Even if Radio 1 would like more representation from this sector, there are stacks of better options than Danny Beard.

xxladybarefootxx got a reaction from AndyK77 in Danny Beard on weekend afternoons
I understand that representation is important. And I can't speak for the LGBTQ+ community. But, as a woman in my mid 30s, I have seen a massive shift towards 'having more women' in every industry/organisation in my lifetime. I have always felt that it should be on merit and capability to carry out a role effectively, rather than just filling a role as a specific gender.
Women can be fantastic at everything, but on a personal level I would not want to be hired, for example, as a firefighter just because I was the only female candidate. I am 5 foot nothing and could not carry you out of a burning building.

xxladybarefootxx reacted to coffeeandgin in Danny Beard on weekend afternoons
I'd say Danny has been given a fair hearing - and hasn't been up to par.
You don't want Radio 1 to be a closed shop - but not being able to usually get the Whatsapp number right should be a dealbreaker. Errors happen even to the best DJs at times but if you can't get the Whatsapp number right you really shouldn't have a regular role on the station.
But if they really are that desperate to have Danny on the schedule full-time then pair him up with somebody who can actually handle the technical side. You think of all the capable DJs who are in duos and trios and then you have just have a rookie like Danny left solo.
The LGBTQ+ point too I have to say if true as a gay man feels a case of proper discrimination.
It's good to have LGBTQ+ representation for sure but the key thing is that the DJ is good at the end of the day and say in 2021 there was loads of LGBTQ+ talent on Radio 1 in Scott, Grimmy and Adele Roberts among others but at the end of the day they were strong DJs entirely there on merit. And even now there's still LGBTQ+ talent on Radio 1 who are there primarily because they're bloody good broadcasters. Danny is not one of them.

xxladybarefootxx reacted to Jono in Jordan North's first Capital Radio breakfast show
Think it's a lot more fun when they don't have guests and have to find ideas to fill a show.
Them doing some calming traffic reports around the most stressful part of the day. I wonder if there's more they could do with that - 8.15am being the most stressful time.
Anyway, I think that of most radio shows, I'd rather hear the creativity than an overhyped celebrity. Greg had it right yesterday with Tom Allen, he wasn't really just there to promote The Apprentice, but to do comedy too.

xxladybarefootxx got a reaction from coffeeandgin in Scott v Matt and Mollie
When Scott and Chris announced their departure from R1, I remember there was lots of speculation about who would take over the 1pm slot. Matt and Mollie were talked about a lot on here, and at the time I really didn't rate them as a replacement.
A few years on, I see that I was totally wrong. They are such a good pairing, and it's the same kind of duo as Scott and Chris, in that they are real life friends, who spend time together in their real lives, which really does come across on air. True friends having a laugh together, and everyone is invited is how it feels to me now.
I never thought about it before, but I agree with @coffeeandgin that Mollie is the Scott of the duo - pop obsessed and maybe a litte ditsy, but so funny, and in need of someone to anchor to or bounce off. It seems that Matt is the kind of Chris of the duo then in that comparison, the one with the ideas, but also needs another person to make the magic happen.
I know I'm outside of the R1 demographic, and maybe Dean and Vicky were meant to be younger and fresher, but I'm sure in my younger years I would have preferred to listen to two people who had a genuine connection and could really make each other laugh, as well as have the listeners laugh along. That was the Scott and Chris factor for me, and I think the only pair that come close to that now are Matt and Mollie.

Also hopefully won't get my head bitten off for this but I'd say of the current Radio 1 DJs the one arguably most similar to Scott Mills's latter time on Radio 1 would be Mollie. I'm not saying she's as good as Scott was to be clear but she is that sort of vibe.
'Future Pop' is exactly the sort of music Scott would be championing and you can tell Mollie has the same passion for it that Scott did. There's that Party Anthems link too - a show Matt & Mol do that previously Scott did and they bring a similar energy to how Scott did that makes it a fun listen.
Matt & Mollie seem to just have that natural connection with the listeners that Scott & Chris did that you can't manufacture.
