I see the schedule has been updated for this week's show and is now listed under 'Martha'... Does anyone know much about her? What's her surname? How did she become associated with the show? I'm a bit naive on the specialist output at these sort of hours!

What a bizarre take. I think Greg and Scott are pretty similar in style because they both have listener based shows? The average listener numbers have fallen overall, I don’t think that’s enough to attribute to one presenter. They’ll go down even further with whoever is next because that’s just how youth radio RAJARs are going…

Right around Christmas, Greg was making comments about doing stuff again next year. The Gregg Wallace tree call, getting Harry Styles up a Cherry Picker, Jona Lewie Time. Obviously it’s not solely up to him, but it would not surprise me if he has at least another full year in him on Breakfast. There’s been so much change across Radio 1 under Aled —compared to what we had previously — I don’t think a consistent 12 months for the daytime line up is a bad thing

There are 3 shows I always try and catch up on: Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James, Going Home with Vick & Jordan and Matt & Mollie. They cannot be beaten in terms of content vs quality vs time listened. All 3 of those shows make me feel like I am missing out if I'm not across what has happened in any given week. Greg is still sounding as fresh as ever and is the best communicator on the station by far. Vick & Jordan are a very relevant listen and always seem to push the boundary a little bit. Matt & Mollie are packed with good features and quality content. Honourable mentions for Katie Thistleton (both on her weekend show and when she joins the Going Home throuple), and Sam & Danni who are really finding their feet this year having done a great run on Summer EB & now Weekend Breakfast. Interesting comments above about Rickie, Melvin & Charlie - I loved their evening show, but gave up catching up on any of the current show about 18 months ago because it was just too music heavy and not worth the skimming time. May try and dip back in.

I wonder if Scott is off till 7th January? As that’s when he’s in panto till.

I'm not so sure, as he only appears to be regional cover for Global and they tend to not bother with the regional shows for that bit between Christmas & New Year.

Yeah agree with this. I loved RMC’s evening show, not for the music but the content. There was some real good stuff in there. Hopefully it doesn’t happen for many years, but post-Greg, I’d be tempted to move RMC to Afternoons to allow Vick to go solo on the Live Lounge with Jordan & Katie teaming up at Breakfast. or even put RMC on at Drive, but I do think it’s probably right that they use Drive as the place to sure up the next Breakfast show. So I’d like to see Sam & Danni move there after their weekend stint.

Agree and I really would have preferred that. But she may end up in a better position if she ends up on Breakfast with Jordan in the next 5 years. I don't really listen to Dean & Vicky on the regular, but I'm never really impressed whenever I catch them. The only time I've seen their strength in recent times is when they did Early Breakfast during the DJ Hunt week. It was by far a stronger EB than Nat O'Leary who was barely speaking... it didn't involve any of their crabby features & the chat was all focused on helping find clues for the hunt to hand to Greg at half 7. I guess this probably proves they are OK at content presenters, but nowhere near the top... but not quite at the bottom either!

I think there is clearly a lot of pressure on the BBC radio bosses to ensure more shows are coming from outside of London....probably more pressure than has been publicly said over the issue. Just look at the likes of Radio 2 moving Early Breakfast when Vanessa left, and 6 Music announcing their Drive Time show changes for 2024. I think this probably played a HUGE part in Dean & Vicky ending up with this show.

Yeah looking forward to hearing Sam and Danni establish their own show. Feels like the most deserved permanent appointment since Jordan North

More BBC Sounds data released today for Q2 2023 - you can see the full thing here. Amazingly the 'Scott Mills Daily' R1 Podcast is still within the 'Top Ten Podcast - Under 35 Skew', rising 1 place on last quarter as it's now in third place. Vick and Jordan's Podcast is in second place & Greg is in 5th. For actual Radio show catchups, Radio 1 00s is in second place, Greg is third and Vick & Jordan are fourth. Generic 'Radio 1 Breakfast' (when people cover), Future Artists, Party Anthems & Future Sounds make up the Top 10

It’s about 1740 on Saturday if anyone wants to hear it on Sounds… it’s pretty awful, maybe a producer should’ve stopped her even getting on air to be honest

So for the 8 weeks of Early Breakfast they’re doing, they’re off 1 week for holiday and another because of the DJ Hunt! So 6 in total?

Why would they need it though? They aren’t on full time right now. They’re doing 8 weeks of Early Breakfast, have those 5 weekdays off and then they start on weekends.
