Although my friend has been an avid listener but says the music has gone in a different direction.
I suppose maybe that's the direction of travel we are going in with FAST channels on telly.

I think that the schedule does need a wider age diversity like how I sense there is at other networks like Kiss and Capital I think with Rickie and Melvin in their forties and presenters mostly in late to mid thirties do think there needs a blend of a twenty something that is more gen z or zillenial at daytime whether thats weekend or weekday.

She’s one of the biggest assets to the station that could have a more prolonged career at the station than a fair few of those who currently on daytime. One with Jordan’s departure could risk losing.

True that. If he does get to take on a show permanently it would likely be when the next major presenter(s) leave daytime or even likely to leave weekends.

Plus if you want to listen to a news programme you wouldn’t go to Radio 2.

I mean since he has served his time at radio 1 and if it is the sake that he has left for Global the BBC can’t penalise him for breaking its restrictions without wasting too much time and money of breaching contract post his last shift on the job. The fact that Jordan had agreed to work to March the 4th but the BBC decided otherwise and looking like he hadn’t agreed thad Thursday as his last show. On that basis that he could counter claim that the BBC breached their side of the agreement stated. I can’t imagine that if on Monday or sometime next week he is announced as a presenter on Capital FM I can’t see the BBC wanting to get in any legal dispute of potential breaches of contractual agreements.

At a human level I agree - Jordan is probably one of the biggest personalities Radio 1 has seen in many years - not through his name but just his style.  Look at how much he got referred to on other shows.  His "driving thing" this week ended up featuring on virtually all daytime shows in the end.

I mean we’ll know next week about the Capital rumour I can only assume but if it isn’t I like many other listeners will be dumbfounded and be curious on the terms of being sacked by the BBC to be replaced in an unpopular decision by someone two years older who hasn’t had any experience as a radio broadcaster expect a few times of covering shows on the station not the same level of what ticks and engages with the stations audience.

Radio 1's treatment does have a feeling of the scene in Succession where Connor gives a funeral speech about Mo (Lester):
'Jordan North was a man. He worked on Radio 1 for a decade. Listeners enjoyed his shows on Radio 1. When a DJ leaves it is sad'.

It would’ve been nice to hear Alice on the radio again. I also miss having Phil Taggart on the radio he’s a superb presenter and hope he returns with something big on radio in the future.

Thank you! I mean you just have to look at the demographic of who is commenting/engaging with Radio 1 mostly on the “youth” social media platforms instagram and TikTok - is it their supposed “target” audience? Doesn’t look like it to me. You can push stuff in front of kids but it doesn’t mean they’re going to engage.
I do also think it’s worth noting that people my age are maturing at a much slower rate now. For example, clubbing into a much older age and a lot more in touch with youth culture than people my age now were maybe 10 years ago. Shifts in culture like this also need to be considered I believe.

+1 on this too, radio in general is entering unchartered waters. I have Apple Music, but I would never trust it's algorithms to recommend me new music. I don't want to live in a reality where that is a thing. I like tuning in to Future Sounds and finding a new song that slaps, then adding it to my playlist.
I'm sure most kids are probably used to the algorithms choosing everything for them, but I think it's terrible and goes against everything of what music is about. I want to decide for myself whether I like a song, not to have an AI recommend to me what it thinks I will like.

What I will say he isn’t responsible to the stations representation would only be legitimately affected if it was something that reprehensible occurred and know that would’nt be the case. If he did decide to leave the station knowing it’s something that it would eventually happen should be able to deal and manage with a departure of the stations most senior names.

Also he was one of the ones that do something that is hard to do make the mundane entertaining he has quite a charming and amusing delivery. I can’t imagine many presenters making ‘’picky teas’ or what you having for your tea, something so basic quite amusing that listeners interact with and the listeners really managed to convince and prove to him that this is good radio that they enjoy. He has that mates in the pub casual conversation that made it work and it’s all how you talk to a listener and he has many good stories to tell them. Really liked the stories he had to tell when he was on sunday mid mornings.

They were both great, and to be honest the whole mid to late 2010s lineup of djs was excellent.
I remember when Scott left and there was a shakeup of the schedule, I said at the time it felt very slapdash and some promotions felt like they were too soon. Looking back I think that was just because the roster had slowly weakened over time. The drive to recruit celebrity presenters has been a disaster and might have blocked the progression of others. No sign of that stopping now with Jamie Laing getting the nod for drivetime...
Now I won't be all doom and gloom. I think this news means Greg won't be going anywhere for a while. He loves Radio 1 too much to be seen as abandoning the ship, leaving it in worse shape than it was when he joined. Sam and Danni are also excellent and need to be given a prime slot as soon as possible.

I think if Katie was offered a big programme like breakfast or drive to be the Sara Cox to sweep in to fill any Simon Mayo and Jo Whiley like shoes with Jamie and Vick if it goes as listeners commented as a flop. I think that she deserves something otherwise I wouldn’t be surprised if she got bored of waiting and not being promoted and take a better offer. To me if the station is trying to steady itself and work on it’s own identity and trying to work on things think it might not be the best time to look to do the 00s and 10s service.

You'd have thought they'd at least get him on the phone pre-recorded at the very least.
