  1. The most genius move would be to give it to Rob Brydon ... He could take the p**s out of Ken Bruce, in KB's own voice ?
  2. Look out, then, because if Management can cock something up, then they probably will !!
  3. Nobody's mentioned yet what a good opportunity it would be for R1 to make a change at Mid-Morning ....
  4. This is why I listen to very little GHR, as things stand. Good records did not cease to be on 1st Jan 2000. Their brasher 'cousin' Hits Radio has the opposite problem - They think good records only started to be made on 1st Jan 2000!
  5. Did try to warn you, folks! Whatever is put in it's place needs to have just as many 'features' (e.g. retain 'Tracks Of My Years'?) or R2 will slowly but surely lose it's domination of Mid-Mornings ... Would love to be a fly on the wall, right now.
  6. ^ Your analysis is basically 'Nothing to see here', then ^ I think R2 is going to take a significant knock - especially if they don't get the replacement right ...
  7. Feel free to place a bet ? I haven't got a scoobie how this plays out ...
  8. This is HUGE. This show has bossed Mid-Mornings for many years. All bets are off.
  9. ^ That's a good first draft, but what's happened to the Blues/ Jazz/ Folk/ Country Specialists??? ^
  10. Wasn't meant in derogatory way - She's just soooh perfect for the darker hours, is all I meant. I rate her highly.
  11. Sian Eleri for mid-morning is a bold call ... ... Specialist shows do need a 'stable' position in the schedule (9pm clashes with the R2 specialist shows, for me, though). Maybe try Jack and Clara together for the 'Evening Sessions'? A 'hard No' to Rock Show on a Sunday - Fri or Sat is place for that.
  12. Judging by the affectionate responses OJ has had on Twitter, then he's really established himself as 'Mister Late Night' (I'm always fast asleep by then, but impressed whenever I've heard him doing cover). Hope he doesn't suffer the same fate as Alex Lester ...
  13. Apart from removing the jarring absurdity of having the Rock Show straight after the Chilled Show on a Sunday, I don't think anybody at R1 cares about 'fitting' any given programme to it's best time slot.
  14. ... Right - listened - Still don't remember it. Still mystified by its success.
  15. Might be - I'll go searching for the radio version, and report back! ....
  16. Honestly, when you put it like that, I don't know ... I'll just know it, when I see it ... Currently switching to Fi & Jane on Times Radio at 3pm (after my daytime dose of R1 at 2pm) ... Will dip back into Scott Mills from time to time, to see what's occurring ....
  17. This out from the Guardian today ~ The UK’s Top 10 most popular singles of 2022 1 Harry Styles – As It Was 2 Ed Sheeran – Bad Habits 3 Fireboy DML & Ed Sheeran – Peru 4 Cat Burns – Go 5 Ed Sheeran – Shivers 6 Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill 7 Glass Animals – Heat Waves 8 Lost Frequencies and Calum Scott – Where Are You Now 9 LF System – Afraid to Feel 10 Sam Fender – Seventeen Going Under The UK’s Top 10 most popular albums of 2022 1 Harry Styles – Harry’s House 2 Ed Sheeran – = 3 Taylor Swift – Midnights 4 The Weeknd – The Highlights 5 Olivia Rodrigo – Sour 6 Eminem – Curtain Call: The Hits 7 Elton John – Diamonds 8 Fleetwood Mac – 50 Years – Don’t Stop 9 Little Mix – Between Us 10 Abba – Gold – Greatest Hits Not sure where this 'fits' in the forums - But surely worthy of discussion. Two things spring to my mind: a) I had to You-Tube the Cat Burns song - How has something so stubbornly un-memorable achieved this position?? b) There is still no radio station which is prepared to cover the whole gamut of best-selling albums - There must be a market for this?? ..... Your reflections ???
  18. On the other hand, % of Rap records goes down significantly .. so, silver linings, and all that ...
  19. I'm probably gonna get a load of flack for this, but I'm really hoping that Scott Mills' show gets a bit more structure to it - there just doesn't seem to be any point to it at the moment - It's like he's filling-in for Steve Wright ....
  20. Fi and Jane would be another great example - Adding to my suspicion that the "they wouldn't want it" is effectively BBC propoganda.
  21. You could well be right. I will just point out that it was said of Graham Norton on the BBC that he wouldn't want to take on more work. He then doubled his hours, over on Virgin Radio.
  22. We can haggle over the percentage splits, for sure. Point is - Is there an official policy on this? If not, there will be a 'De Facto' policy on it, according to what actually gets played, over the course of a year. Whether anybody can be arsed to collate that is another question - But it would be interesting to see.
  23. Is there even an official policy on this, in terms of the percentage split? I'd have thought that something like this would be reasonable, in R1's case: 50% = Records made within the last 12 months 30% = Records older than above, but made within last 3 years 15% = Records older than above, but made within last 15 years 5% = Records older than above.
  24. Gaby Roslin and Ricky Wilson have been great together, whenever subbing at Virgin Radio. I hear that Wilson is going to be given his own slot, but it just seems a no-brainer to me to give it to them as a pair, and let them do whatever they want with it ...
  25. Has there been any genuine request show, on any station, since Annie Nightingale? - i.e., one where the listener's "choice" doesn't already have to be on an approved list ??
