The mums open the wrong son's presents
Scott and Chris repeat their most uncomfortable Christmas tradition. Each has selected, wrapped and delivered a present to the other's mother, but both mums have been told that the parcel was chosen by their own son.
They call the women and ask them to open the gifts live on air, accepting praise for taste and effort that belongs to somebody else. Scott admits he has invested more thought in Chris's mum than in his own girlfriend, while Chris enjoys the dec [...]
The specialist subject is chosen
Chris films Celebrity Mastermind in Manchester the following day. He will not be told who his competitors are, but he has finally selected a specialist subject and performs extremely well when Scott tests him during the programme.
The subject remains secret, despite listeners offering suggestions ranging from number-one singles to Watford Football Club. Dev is recording an edition on the same day, although neither knows whether they will be placed in direct compe [...]
The Tinder PA remains unfilled
James has not yet hired the personal assistant who would conduct his Tinder small talk and deliver only the successful matches to him. Granting somebody access to his previous conversations feels too intrusive, while building a fresh profile would create more work than simply sending the messages himself.
His conventional dating is not going more smoothly. A man visits James for dinner, requests a tour of the house and then asks to spend 15 minutes alone in the bed [...]
Scott discovers Undressed
An evening intended for quality television collapses when Scott discovers the dating show Undressed. Strangers remove one another's clothes, spend half an hour together on a bed and follow instructions displayed on a screen before separately deciding whether to continue the date.
Scott finds the format painfully awkward but impossible to stop watching. Listeners admit that they have fallen into the same trap, adding it to a crowded television landscape already containin [...]
Another excellent thing from Harriet
With Chris away, previous contributor Harriet offers Scott another “show and tell”. She first appeared with an online video of cartoon dinosaurs shouting “yes”; this time she has found the same treatment applied to Pokémon.
Every creature has been dubbed with a different emphatic “yes”, with occasional “no” responses adding unnecessary confusion. Scott listens through the surprisingly long collection, immediately adopts several of the noises and warns that th [...]
A vacancy in James's love life
James is using so many dating apps that keeping up with the conversations has begun to feel like a second job. His solution is to recruit a dating-app personal assistant who can learn his personality, handle the messages and leave James to attend only the resulting dates. Scott and Chris help him consider applications and the awkward question of whether the assistant should be paid.
A listener reveals that she already has a similar arrangement. Her male colleague h [...]
Final preparations for France
With their Euro 2016 commentary now confirmed, Scott and Chris deal with forms, medical requirements and the reality of travelling to France. They consider recruiting a psychic "sidekick" and hear from Dawn, whose sports bar intends to put their Red Button coverage on for its customers. Scott's uncertain grasp of the fixture is exposed when he keeps finding ways to involve Neymar, despite Brazil having no part in France versus Germany.
